Five acts take the stage on Saturday for semi-final one of Söngvakeppnin 2020. They’re all competing for the chance to represent Iceland at Eurovision 2020 in May. The performers represent a wide range of musical styles, with the lineup including both well-known musicians and relative newcomers.
While two acts will progress to the grand final, our readers have one clear faovurite — Elísabet Ormslev with “Elta þig”.
Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin 2020 — Elísabet Ormslev is your favourite to win semi-final one
The up-tempo soul-fueled entry amassed a tally of 178 votes. That’s 32.95% of all votes cast.
Elísabet is no stranger to Söngvakeppnin. She participated in 2016 with “Á ný”, written by none other than Greta Salóme. Elísabet made it to the final where she competed against Greta herself who performed the song “Hear Them Calling”, which ended up representing Iceland in Stockholm.
Based off this poll, the omens are looking good for Elísabet to reach the final yet again.
Coming in second place with our readers is Brynja Mary and her poptastic entry “Augun þín”. She took healthy chunk of the ballot, picking up 20.15% of all votes cast.
Bryna Mary is a new face on the national selection scene. Which is hardly a surprise, as she celebrated her 16th birthday only last month. Her entry is certainly radio friendly, and its chilled out style is a far-cry from reigning Söngvakeppnin champions, Hatari.
Based off these results DIMMA, Ísold og Helga and Kid Isak would all miss the final. However, there’s the possibility that one of them would get a wildcard slot courtesy of the jury.
