In less than 24 hours, the winner of X Factor Malta 2020 will be known — and we’ll also know who Malta will be sending to Eurovision 2020. Ahead of Saturday’s grand final, the broadcaster has released snippets of the original songs each finalist has recorded.

The broadcaster hasn’t revealed much information about the four songs — not even the song titles. All that is confirmed is that the songs are original. However, it seems likely that the four finalists will perform their songs a part of the X Factor Malta grand final.

What isn’t clear, however, is if the songs are potential Eurovision entries for the four acts. The winner of the series will also represent Malta at Eurovision 2020 — but will the Maltese song again be internally selected or will it be chosen as part of the X Factor grand final?

All will be confirmed at the series final on Saturday night, but until then the show has released clips of the four songs.

Destiny Chukunyere

Destiny is singing a contemporary soul ballad that includes the line “Tell me who will save the hero”. It’s a change of pace from the soul classics Destiny has favoured on the show, or indeed her uptempo Junior Eurovision song.

F.A.I.T.H

The five-piece girl group have a sassy modern pop number that sets them as Malta’s answer to Little Mix. The girls say “There’s nothing more fly than a guy who’s confident”, and the song lyrics include a new acronym for the group’s name: “Fierce, awesome, independent, too hot”.

Justine Shorfid

Justine tackles a song which sounds inspired by classic James Bond theme songs. She sings of a lover who is “sweet but bitter” and the song gives her a chance to show off her powerhouse vocals.

Kyle Cutajar

Kyle’s song is a stripped-back bluesy number with plenty of opportunities for him to highlight his vocal power. The song is a kiss-off to someone he doesn’t want in his life any longer. He snarls, “Turn around and let me be / You ain’t got nothing on me”.

Snap poll: Which X Factor Malta original song do you like that best?

[polldaddy poll=10502988]

The grand final of the X Factor Malta will screen this Saturday, 8 February, at 21:00 CET. It is not known if the acts will perform their potential Eurovision entries at the grand final, or whether the winner will have their song internally selected at a later stage.

What do you think? Which is your favourite song? Would any be a great Eurovision entry? Tell us your thoughts below!

I don’t understand. How did Destiny, Justine and Kyle produce such generic songs? I hate to say this, but Faith have the only ok song. Apart from that, destiny’s chances of winning are much less now

These songs are next level bad, i cant believe they had such a budget for X Factor and they just bought cheap generic pop songs

Omg! I hope that none of those songs are the ones to represent Malta… they all sound like a non qualification entry. I support Destiny, so I think that she can do better than that!

If these demos are samples of possible songs for Eurovision, there would be no final for Malta, even if Destiny wins. This is why I really hTe the idea of creating songs just for a contest–they never turn out good because they are created in such a short about of time, and they never do well at Eurovision.

I think as we have learned with Albania and Czech Republic, don’t take for granted that a fan favorite is going to be the winner.

Malta’s song last year was good. You can argue it wasn’t fit for the singer, which is valid, but still a great song.

Since there are no clear indicstions of what the original song will contribute as I can’t put my judgement yet.

Just give Destiny “Colours,” the song Michela and Poli almost took, and they will sail to a top 5 finish. Why is this so hard?

Destiny has an awful, horrible song. I thought she was the favorite, but it seems they didn’t want her to win, so they gave her a weak song, not suitable for her huge voice. On the other hand, F.A.I.T.H have a promicing song, it could do well for Malta if it’s properly sung!

I haven’t been paying attention to Malta until now. I thought Destiny was the runaway favorite but from these comments it appears that is not the case.

Hate to say this but F.A.I.T.H. has the best song. Destiny’s sounds like your typical coronation song and Justine…hot mess talk about sabotage lol if Destiny wins she’s definitely not taking that to ESC

The snippet of Faith’s song is the most interesting. I’m disappointed by the one of Destiny. I really hope her for the win but I don’t want that song to be the one to sing in Rotterdam. Her talent isn’t showed on it

Malta could change the song as it was the case with Ira Losco’s Chameleon…

I’m rooting for F.A.I.T.H. All 5 of them have good voices and they sound great together.

Am I the only one who finds Destiny’s voice completely unbearable now? I think she was good at junior eurovision, but the whole way through this process I’ve found her voice so cringeworthy, so completely off.

so true, man… In this song by example she fails all the high notes on that snippet…

I hope that’s not Destiny’s final song, like it’s fine but she deserves an absolute bop.

Wow. Good options, Malta! (If these are the options). For Destiny, it doesn’t sound as soulful as some of her past work, which would be nice if she wanted to challenge herself as part of X Factor…but honestly, if you want to compete at Eurovision, you SHOULD lean into your strengths as a performer! It’ll either need a revamp or a different song. But who knows? She’s still my favorite. Although if I had to pick based on songs, I’d say F.A.I.T.H.

F.A.I.T.H have the best snippet tbh. But none of them are bad at all. Destiny’s is okay but I think somewhat in her “comfort zone” still.
