The revamped Lithuanian national final for 2020, Pabandom iš naujo, has attracted much acclaim for its increased production values and song quality.
And it seems Lithuanians would agree, with two particularly notable examples.
The Roop’s eclectic, but addictive “On Fire” has spent much of the past two weeks inside in Lithuania’s Spotify top 10. On Thursday it was ninth with about 3,640 daily streams. One day later, it’s fallen slightly to 12.
Just last week, they topped the public vote in the first semifinal with 5192 votes, a total more than double of second place Aiste Pilvelyte. Could this mean a guaranteed 12 points for the public in the final?
The only other act in the top 20 is yet to perform in the semis. But after dropping a fresh music video and releasing her entry on streaming earlier in the week, Monique is currently at 17.
Early fan favourite Monique is set to perform “Make Me Human” once again after placing first in Heat 2. Placing second with the public then, will this boost be enough for this evening’s second semifinal?
There is only one more qualifying stage before the Lithuanian grand final, and eight acts are vying for the last four qualifying spots. It’s important to remember that, due to health reasons, Evgenya Redko has stepped down from the competition. The eight acts still in the running are:
Meandi “DRIP”
Petunija “Show Ya”
Germanas Skoris “Chemistry (Breaking Free)”
Moniqué “Make Me Human”
Rokas Povilius “Vilnius Calling”
Monika Marija “If I Leave”
Andy Vaic “Why Why Why”
The Backs “Fully”
The show will start on February 8, at 20:00 CET and you can watch it on LRT’s website.
What do you think? Do you think “On Fire” or “Make Me Human” can take it all? Who are you rooting for in the second semi final of Pabandom iš naujo? Let us know in the comments below!
On Fire is much better
The roop does not deserve all the hate they are getting. It is such a charming and creative song.
It is slick and groovy, although I don’t personally find it charming. It’s still good though.
Oh, I absolutely love it! I find it very quirky and uplifting and the singer sells it extremely well. But you know haters will always hate. What matters is that if Lithuania picks them I’m defintely voting for them, and I’m sure many others will do as well. 🙂
Both are really good. I absolutely didn’t follow the selection but I’m quite surprised by the quality of the songs. Choose one of those 2 Lithuania and you’re a potential top 10!
Any updates from people watching Lithuania?
Monique was terribly out of tune tonight, so Monika Marija rightfully won the semi
Oh no! Sad for Moniqué but happy for Monika.
What you on.. Monique was stunning
What does it have to do with Lithuania? Write it down of Latvias post please!
Monique was in my recommended videos on YouTube and I didn’t know why… Until now.
I just want Andy Vaic to qualify tonight! Even if I know neither him nor KaYra will win the selection, it would mean a lot to me to have them both technically getting into top 8. 🙂
In other news… It already looks a bit uncomfortable at Vidbir (Ukraine). That questioning after the performance is still there. 😀
I thought Jamala had left and they vetted all these people!
So did I! Maybe we shouldn’t judge another culture in this way though. We don’t live there. By the way, their music acts have been solid alternative-style acts. Good stuff.
It’s not about culture, it’s about national security.
Yes, because the security of a nation is really threatened by a delegation of singers to Eurovision (yes, that’s sarcasm).
By the way, the songs are being played on loop during the ad breaks. Smart idea actually.
Narrow-minded comment. Probably you live too far from Russia.
Poor Jamala just became a scapegoat for the broadcaster….her actual question wasn’t that offensive and it was the broadcaster’s subsequent contract with Maruv that was so problematic.
Oh Vidbir… will you ever change? I guess it’s not about Jamala or whoever is now filling her spot. Coincidentally, with all the national finals simultaneously going on, I didn’t catch-up with Vidbir yet. Now I feel like I (subconsciously) made the right call, as it turns out it’s still a lot about politics. 🙁
Actually, the music so far has been very good. Credit where it is due.
Edit: Oh Colin, you removed your reply. Are you okay?
I just re-edited it. Sometimes I do that when I want to re-phrase something. It’s up there and it’s pretty similar. I am okay, thanks. 🙂
I believe you. I still haven’t heard Ukrainian songs, but they tend to have good ones. I think that most of their recent entries have been good.
I hope to listen to them eventually. Ukraine, Denmark, Armenia and Serbia are still awaiting their time.
Monique for the win – the Roop is offputting
We came from the sun, Make me human or On fire to Eurovision
The Roop absolutely must win. Interesting and eclectic with a genius track behind it, as opposed to standard dull sadboi fanwank from Monique.
They’re my favorite too!
Very good song
Good luck Lithuania
that’s remarkable, considering in the previous years the lithuanian selection songs barely made the spotify chart AFTER the final!
Ieva and donny did.. basically when they have a good song, like these 2 they chart otherwise no
Agreed. It might prove that this is a strong year for Lithuania. Alternatively, they might be picking up fans from the loss of A Dal, Destination Eurovision or Operación Triunfo?
The fact that the selection has been trimmed significantly has probably found it new fans who previously found the selection too long to engage with
Where are we able to vote?
