rasmus laura stefan eesti laul 2020

Estonia’s Eurovision selection process starts on Thursday 13 February — that’s less than 24 hours away! Semi-final one of Eesti Laul 2020 will see 12 acts compete for six spots in the 29 February grand final. The remaining 12 acts will perform in Saturday’s second semi.

It has been a number of months since we first heard the 24 songs that will be battling it out for the right to represent Estonia in Rotterdam. And now it’s time to take a look at who you want to advance from the first semi.

We asked you to vote for your favourites, and the results are in!

Rasmus Rändvee is your favourite to win semi-final one of Eesti Laul 2020

He’s the bookies’ favourite. And Rasmus Rändvee is also proving popular with our readers.

We counted a total of 2,249 votes. And the “Young” crooner is a clear winner. He took 477 votes, that’s 21% of all votes cast.

Rasmus is a fairly familiar face on the Estonian Eurovision scene, first attempting to represent the Baltic nation in 2013 as a member of Facelift Deer. His most successful attempt came in 2017, where he reached the superfinal. He ultimately placing third behind Kerli and Eurovision veterans Laura and Koit Toome.

Time will tell whether 2020 will be his year or not. Although they do say “third time is the charm”.

The runner-up in our poll is another Eesti Laul veteran — STEFAN. He has been present in the last three editions of the national final and consistently placed within the top three. “By My Side” bagged just over 14% of the total votes — that’s 326 votes.

Rounding out the top three is Eurovision alum Laura. She’s attempting to represent Estonia for a third time and avenge her previous two non-qualifications. She’ll first have to pass the challenge of Eesti Laul, but perhaps being a seasoned performer with Eurovision experience could get her over the line. She picked up 277 votes or 12.32% of all votes cast.

Going off the poll results, our readers also want to see Jennifer Cohen, Egert Milder and Synne Valtri & Väliharf in the final.

Eesti Laul 2020: Rules

As per usual, the Estonian national selection will be divided across three shows: two semi-finals held on 13th and 15th February respectively, as well as a grand final taking place on 29th February. Twelve songs will battle it out in each semi-final with the top six from each show advancing to the final at the end of the month.

The results of the first four qualifiers will be calculated through a 50/50 combination of votes from the general public and a jury of music professionals. The final two spots will be decided via a second round of voting, comprising solely of a televote.

In the final, the winning song will be selected after two rounds of voting. The first session will comprise of a combination of jury and public voting in order to shortlist three songs to progress to the dramatic superfinal, where the Estonian public will be called upon for a final time to elect their representative in the Netherlands this May.

Laura’s live performances are…shaky… often to say the least oil do I would not be surprised if she crashed out in this semi. That being said she is my second overall to Beautiful Lie.

Break Me is a huge guilty pleasure, hope it does well
