Luleå calling!

This week Melodifestivalen 2020 travels to the far north for Semi-Final 3 in Luleå.

On stage seven acts will go head-to-head for two places at the final and failing that two places in Andra Chansen.

Three acts face the less desirable outcome of crashing out of the competition during the Semi-Final. Now we have our first indication for how things will play out on Saturday night.

That’s because broadcaster SVT has just released one minute snippets of each song in Semi-Final 3.

Melodifestivalen Semi-Final 3

Song Snippets

You can listen to the Melodifestivalen Semi-Final 3 song snippets by clicking here.

  1. Mariette – “Shout It Out”
  2. Albin Johnsén – “Livet börjar nu”
  3. Drängarna – “Piga och dräng”
  4. Amanda Aasa – “Late”
  5. Anis don Demina – “Vem är som oss”
  6. Faith Kakembo – “Crying Rivers”
  7. Mohombi – “Winners”

Rehearsal clips for each act will be released through SVTPlay at 9pm CET. These offers fans a first indication of how the acts’ performances will look on Saturday night.

Melodifestivalen 2020 Semi-Final 3 Running Order

Three-time finalist Mariette opens the show with “Shout It Out”. Mariette’s fourth Melodifestivalen entry has drawn comparisons to Coldplay, but also been labelled her “weakest” so far. Semi-Final 2 finalist Dotter drew a similarly lukewarm response last week, so Mariette fans need not despair yet.

Albin Johnsén is on second and last competed in 2016. The songwriting team for his entry “Livet börjar nu” includes Melfest 2013 winner Robin Stjernberg.

Dansband Drängarna have drawn comparisons to 2018 finalists Rolandz. Their entry “Piga and dräng” has led one critic to dub them, “The Dads of Timoteij”.

P4 Nästa wildcard winner Amanda Aasa follows in fourth. The prognosis for her entry “Late” does not look good. One critic even called the song “unnecessary”.

Anis Don Demina is back for another attempt at Mello glory. He’ll hope his party song “Vem e som oss” can clear the semi-finals after his failed attempt in 2019.

An act that has won praise from the media is Faith Kakembo. She’ll sing “Crying Rivers” in sixth position.

Mohombi – who placed fifth in the final of Melodifestivalen 2019 – closes the show. His entry “Winners” is seen by the press as the most probable qualifier from this Semi-Final.

Amansa Aasa is the best amogst these. But I guesa Dränarna will go all the way among the main-stream workingclass-Svenssons in Sweden tomorrow..

Håller på Amanda Aasa även om jag tror det blir svårt för henne. Lite Mello version av Veronika Maggio och tror inte de som gillar den typen av musik kollar på mello och röstar knappast. Tror fler röstar på drängarna.,Tyvärr.

semi 2 was weak (only anna & dotter deliever).
semi 1 was weaker.
semi 3 new highscore in weakness.
not the best sign for semi 4.

Not bad… I rather like most songs in this semi and even the ones I don’t rightly care for aren’t bad. My favs are Mariette and Drangarna… Faith’s song is alright but I don’t feel any real emotion but sometimes ballads are just better performed live so we shall see I suppose. Mohombi’s song was supposed to sound like something from Turkey from the 00’s? well I don’t hear that but maybe the snippet didn’t showcase that, all I got was a nice but generic male pop song but nothing special. I still like Anna and Dotter’s songs better for… Read more »

I keep thinking things over and looking at last weeks semi, I would not only go so far to say that Klara would go DtF in this semi, but also that Linda Bengtzing would have potentially even gone to AC.. in a way I feel like the latter is the biggest shame because she was one elimination I saw coming but wish hadn’t happen.

Long live schlager! If we erase all swedish schlager songs just beacuse someone thinks they are dated. Then we loose all of our swedish ID. Then we could just be a boring pop festival like everyone else. No i want to keep as much swedish in a swedish Melfest. ps schlager is not dated. Its a song with a strong chorus that you remember. There are many diffrent schlager approaches. not just ONE

Excuse me.. most of the songs in this heat are better than Lithuania’s songs in the final, imo of course 😀 I’m sure they will be performed better as well.. I’m just being objective.

The “brand” of Mariette is bigger than her chances of ever going to eurovision. This song is a filler. Still Dotter and Anna are the one to beat

My top 7 and prediction in brackets before rehearsals:

1. Mohombi (2nd)
2. Amanda Aasa (7th)
3. Mariette (1st)
4. Faith Kakembo (3rd)
5. Albin Johnsén (6th)
6. Anis Don Demina (5th)
7. Drängarna (4th)

Thoroughly disappointed with Mariette and Faith’s song to be honest. Pleasantly surprised with Mohombi’s song and Amanda’s was as great as I anticipated.

Don’t know why people are complaining. The third semi is always the weakest one. None of them will do well in the final, but someone has to end up 11th too! Though this lot is better than what usually is offered in the third one.. Mohombi is the only DF qualifier here. Rest is up to grabs. I actually would say Drängarna takes it. It is that Rolandz/ Hasse Andersson effect with people just voting for the name ! Though it probably will be Mariette again, even though it’s her most bland entry. And that means a lot seeing how… Read more »

From this short snippets I think Mahombi and Drängarna. I agree But I think Mariett Will have difficult if the staging is’nt fantastic. She will be compared whith her former entries and we the swedes Often don’t care if we like the artist if we don’t like the song. I think actually Mariett or Faith will go to Sandra chanson together whith Anis Don Demina. My daughter has talked a lot about him and I think he will get the Samir och viktor votes. My prediction, obs not what I want though Final: Drängarna and Mohombi Andra chansen: Anis Don… Read more »

1. Drängarna – This is EXACTLY the kind of song I love and listen to normally! Oh, it’s such a delight. They sound like they’re having so much fun 😀 Jaunty and happy! 2. Anis don Demina – This also sounds like it’ll be a blast on stage!! 3. Mohombi – Not sure where the Turkey-00s comparison comes in, unless it picks up a lot in the other 2/3rds? But hey, it’s still sounding pretty good and I’m sure he’ll deliver really well on stage!! The other songs .. kind of miss me. Though they could surprise, and I hope… Read more »

Sweden have lost their way etc. We have your intrest beacuse you manage to fill the comment section with 100 comments every time Sweden is up. I never watch a show i hate. Why cant you try that sometime? less complaints then. Try it.

It’s hard to tell from one minute snippets, but none of the songs really say ”winner”. I’d give my vote to Faith in this bunch, but I’m still unsure. I’ll wait for the full versions, as one of the songs may develop more. I guess this is great news for Malou Prytz and Paul Rey if they’ll have to duel with acts from this semi.

I don’t get the hype about Faith K., it’s just an OK song… and maybe Mariette will be saved by the bell and go to Andra Chansen, ’cause I think Anis, Albin and Amanda will not have a strong support to make it through, but her song is definitely the weakest she has entered. Drängarna is the biggest surprise for me in this semifinal and it will go DTF even before Mohombi… swedish people tend to like this kind of songs. So, my prediction is: DTF: – Drängarna – Mohombi AC: – Faith Kakembo – Mariette 5. Anis Don Demina… Read more »

Yeah this is not working out for me. This might have worked last decade but things change. I feel like MF needs to change their game, more interesting sounds, something else than bland pop or folk schlager. I’m worried for Sweden

Also most of these sound a bit too familiar, uhum Macklemore.

The thing is SVT wants schlager in the contest, even though no one really votes for it.
As for pop that is how Swedish music sounds like at the moment and they want the contest to be that. They want tracks you can stream, listen to. And really isn’t that good that MF isn’t only longer a place for schlager songs?

Alex

But why Swedes don’t love schlagger in Melodifestivalen but when it comes to Eurovision we see Swedes voting massively for “Higher Ground” or “Spirit in the sky” and winning televoting there (probably in a landslide I guess).
I’m also thinking Finland will probably win televote in Sweden with Cicciolina this year.
It’s interesting to see how different is the view idk :s

i feel like they’ve been on a crisis since swedish type of pop stopped being cool (circa 2016) and ppl started consuming urban or more indie-oriented music. the swedish music industry has adapted to that, but not melfest, that’s the problem.

Mohombi has won Grammy and Billboard awards for songs he has written in recent years but for Mello he chooses these rather dated and “Eurovision sounding” songs. It’s literally writing a track just for Eurovision, which I don’t see as a good strategy these days. Might have worked 10 years ago but it’s 2020’s now. He will still be in the final but is it more down to the song or to the competition that’s the question.

This is so bad lmao. Klara would have gone DTF in this semi. Dotter and Anna stay unbothered ! (I don’t understand the hype of the reviews yesterday about Faith, the song is super bland and a bit dated?) Also the Don Demina song is literally Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore wtf. Mohombi is the only obvious DTF here even if it is not a bop. Then I don’t know. Probably Don Demina, Kakembo and that boring Mariette song. The most entertaining song is the folk celtic group one though, i would put it in the finals just to add… Read more »

I enjoy the songs in this semi, and I feel like there is a fair bit of diversity here (That a lot of people find is often lacking from Melo) but I do wonder if a bop from a previous semi (ex: Klara) would have performed really well here? Anyway here are my PERSONAL and TEMPORARY rankings. DtF: Drangarna – oh man this type of folk music is lowkey my guilty pleasure! Boring, generic, repetitive songs…. Nothing to stand out, very disappointing…year by year the quality of Mellfest songs is getting worse! – Mariette – Isn’t she tired of competing, year after year with basically the same type of songs? BORING! – Albin Johnsén – Each and every year they put some artists singing in Swedish, with NO chance or qualifying, they just want to fill the space of the semifinals with this kind of boring, dated songs… NEXT! – Drängarna – Rednex in a bad day? No thank you, 90’s are not coming back… – Amanda Aasa – I don’t even… Read more »

This feels like an even heat, simply because all the songs are just too middle of the road/bad. But non the less here is what I think will happen without having seen their on stage performances: DTF 1. Mohombi- Bland, good but once again it has been heard soooooo many times before (and way earlier). Effective maybe, but also a bit boring if it doesn´t explode later in the song. 2. Mariette- This is right up my alley, but i´m not convinced the rest of Sweden will agree with me. It is once again simplistic and it has been done… Read more »
