Arilena Ara Shaj Eurovision 2020 Albania

The Arilena-ators are out in force! For the third consecutive week fans of Albania’s Arilena Ara have voted her their favourite Eurovision 2020 act so far. And presumably several of our regular readers did too!

Arilena Ara is your favourite Eurovision 2020 act so far

Since Sunday, a whooping 7,235 votes were cast in our poll. Approximately one third of those went to the Festivali i Këngës winner and “Shaj” singer — 2,441 votes.

In second, we have the first of the newcomers — Australia’s Montaigne with “Don’t Break Me”. She was briefly the bookies’ favourite to win Eurovision outright and it seems our readers are also rowing behind her. The blue haired songstress attracted 1,359 votes or 18.78% of all votes cast.

Next is Italy’s Diodato and “Fui Rumore”. For once, Italy didn’t dally when it came to confirming that both the Sanremo winning singer and song were Eurovision-bound. The Italian crooner amassed 1,317 votes or 18.2% of all votes cast.

Latvia’s Samanta Tīna is the only other act to reach quadruple digits. “Still Breathing” polled 1,033 votes or 14.28%.

The ranking is rounded out by Spain’s Blas Cantó and Czech Republic’s Benny Cristo. Both gents appear to have been swept away in the onslaught of fresh competition.

Thankfully, this isn’t a knockout bout. The six will return to the ring once again when we relaunch the poll on Monday. They’ll be joined by new entries from Norway, Lithuania, Armenia, France and Belgium.

What do you think of the current standings? Does Albania deserve to be at number one again? Let us know below.

Why does Albania keep winning these polls? The song is so bland and forgettable and is certainly not going to qualify unless they do some Elhaida Dani-style song change. I still don’t understand how she even won the right to represent Albania at Eurovision ahead of Me Tana.

It’s kinda clear from the scores that Albania isn’t some runaway favourite with a fanbase or some faithful country stans putting it above all (Like Croatia last year) so I’m pretty glad seeing it still do well.

Yeah it’s likely some of it is inflated from people just vote crusading, but that should probably only account for 1/4th at most.

Lol Albanians, stop hijacking the polls! You are like the new Spain and Greece. It’s getting annoying.

I wish SHAJ was as genuinely popular as this poll suggests. I’ve been looking for someone to stan about it with and everyone else has other favorites. *cries in revamped Albanian*

1. Australia – Love the song, the performance not so much… But if she can improve it she could get top 10 May, could especially do good with the juries 2. Czech Republic – Again a really good, modern song. Can’t wait for his live performance today. 3. Italy – would prefer Andromeda, but this is also really good. Heard it on the Slovenian radio the other day. Doubt it will be in top 6 though. 4. Spain – I should like this song way more, but something bothers me about, don’t know really what… But still best Spanish entry… Read more »

Spain is so underrated. Blas is my favourite so far, but if Ulrikke, The Roop and Tokinonine will win tonight, Spain will be my 4th.

Italy is certainly my current favorite. I believe this will (again) be in top 10 of an actual contest. Albania is really good, but I’m afraid that the translation might kill it’s main appeal. Might or might not qualify. Australia is pretty good and I am sure they will again find their place in the finals. Latvia finally has a noteworthy song and I believe they will qualify on televote, but am unsure about it’s jury appeal. Czech Republic is just okay in my book, but I can see them doing very well. Spain is okay, which we all know… Read more »

I’m 100% sure that Czech Republic will end up in top 10. It’s one of those songs that go impressively well with the televote and no-one sees it coming.

Hyping the Albanian entry won’t make it qualify. Just saying. 80% of those votes come from Albanian though.
I don’t get the other 20% tbh, “Shaj” is another basic Albanian ballad sung by an impressive woman. Different taste I suppose.

Not that I care about the polls, but seems like Benny Cristo pulls out the worst out of people, wow, how sad..
“They can say what they want, you should let it go, ’cause tonight I will show love, I’ll show them I can dance on my own..” Great lyrics <3

There’s one song I don’t really like and five that I do like. Of those five, they’re all pretty similar in quality so no…I don’t believe Albania is genuinely 15% better than other entries. 😉

I feel sad for Benny. I think there is a good song in there. I’m hoping the revamp will bring it to life.
