Vidbir_2020_Final_Poll

Ukraine’s Vidbir 2020 brought a variety of music genres to the stage. And after two semi-finals, the excitement is about to reach its peak with Saturday’s grand final.

This Eurovision 2020 national final is giving us a diverse field of contestants. But now it’s time to pick your winner!

Vidbir 2020: The Finalists

Jerry Heil

Jerry Heil’s semi-final one performance was all about the bold and extravagant. The animated background had a sign titled “Welcome Las Vegans” accompanied by vegetables resembling landmarks from the famous gambling city. That makes sense given that her song is about veganism. Her two dancers wore body suits and helped her perform the choreography. No meat in sight…

Krutь

Maryna Krutь delivered a classy performance of “99” in semi one. With the support of animated background images, the song almost takes you on a spiritual journey. Her bandura adds a unique touch. She received critical acclaim from the jurors.

Go_A

Go_A delivered a sharp and spot-on performance. “Solovey” came with thoughtful graphics that matched the sonic progression. Their remarkable voices also helped the group receive strong support from both the jury and the televoters.

Khayat

Khayat dropped some fierce high-art visuals for his semi two performance. It seemed like something from outer space. There was great interaction between the dancers and the camera work.

TVORCHI

TVORCHI showed off some impressive vocals in the second semi. At times, the lyrics appeared on screen, creating direct interaction with the audience. Based on YouTube views, it’s one of the favorites to win Saturday’s final.

David Axelrod

David Axelrod had some dancers on stage – they were dressed in white wearing wings. The performance was effortless and the LED created some nice images.

Solovey is easily the best crafted song here. I just wish her vocals weren’t so harsh.

I don’t know much about Tvorchi but I am very impressed by what they do. I have watched a few videos on YouTube and was very impressed with both their music and Kenny’s beautiful voice. Even more impressed that Kenny sounds great live. Good luck to them!

so the host Pritula repeated his disgraceful joke about Khayat’s last year homophobic attack… His first words to Khayat after his performance in second semi were : “are you without your robe today? have you not been beaten in the subway this time?” and then he continued to whining and make fun of local journalist who publicly called out Pritula’ inappropriate behavior and homophobic jokes about violence towards Khayat last year you can see how confused and lost Khayat has looked during Pritula stupid rants….ugh! there are rumors Khayat gonna change his female dancers to hot guys (as Tina suggested… Read more »

It’s Ukraine. They think veganism is a fresh new topic and gays are worth beating in the subway. And yes, I say it as a person who has family there. A long way to go for them until they reach the west

Okay, here are my first impressions on the finalists: – Solovey – Very interesting. It reminds me a bit of Poland last year with strong cultural vibe and high pitch singing. I’d like to know the lyrics, aside from it’s title meaning Nightingale. It would be quite a special choice for Ukraine to go with this. – Bonfire – It’s fine, with the drop actually being the most interesting part. It’s a pretty nice song overall and Ukraine didn’t go with songs with a drop before. – 99 – It’s very sweet, like a lullaby. I also don’t know everything… Read more »

Solovey is the clear winner, and to be honest…the only one who has a shot at qualifying. The juries will hate it for sure, but it might get a strong public support.
Ukraine won’t get a top 10 result this yr tho.

Omg, I forgot for Vidbir.
I see that only ukrainians and ethno-friendly fans write comments here. Go-A ? Nope, this is really bad, I don’t know who will vote for such loud and unpleasant vocals. Come on, Eurovision is just a big party!
Bonfire, Vegan, and Call for Love will work much better.

ESCFanGA, I agree with you to some degree. There are two acts (Krut’ and Jerry) which can achieve high results but they need to work on their mistakes. Krut’ needs to work on her vocals. The song is only great if her vocals stand out. I loved the studio version but live is quite disappointing. What’s wrong as she can sing. She needs to work on it really hard. Jerry needs new costume and some act to captivate the public. Her voice is great but with her song it’s not enough. In the studio version it’s her facial expressions that… Read more »

None of live performances this year on Vidbir immpreses with vocals actually. The difference between studio and live versions is significant and not in a good way. Khayat is having a catchy song but sounds like he’s having hicup with accent. TVORCHI and David Axelrod are just awful. Krut? basically howls and the vocalist of Go-A is phony most of the time. Jerry Heil sounds the same but she’s not great either. Not trying to offend anyone, it’s just the way it is. Still, they have time to improve. Me personally rooting for Solovey or 99 ftw.

only Tvorchi and Jerry has weak or shaky vocals, the others sounds good for me, not perfect but decent and with more training and polishing all of these songs could do just fine in Rotterdam ( except Horizon)

my personal winners are Khayat and GoA

I adore KRUTb, it’s a solid entry and the background graphics are inspiring. I also like GO-A, but I’m afraid of a Tulia effect. Tvorchi’s song is interesting and that typical ahead-of-its-time entry, the vocalist needs to improve his singing technique though. Jerry Heil’s Vegan sounds and looks like a JESC entry. I can’t find Khayat’s wavelength and David Axelrod seems to have been travelled forward from Eurovision 1993.

Poland last year make two mistakes : adding english lyrics and a bad staging. Anyway Solovey has a totally different beat than Pali Sie and sounds way more modern and less unidimensional and the more important way more better.

I’m Ukrainian too and I would never say like that, especially when
we still have to listen 30 songs from other countries, and as much I like Solovey I cant say it’s a ESC winner or even top 10 material , Solovey is a good song and could do well (or not) , anyway I’m willing to wait for all songs to be out to judge who is potential winner this year

as for the Vidbir winner its Khayat or Go A for me, or Krutb
Tvorchi smells like NQ

The potential of Go_A at Rotterdam to do the most memorable show is off the charts! Solovey can be a great mix of traditional singing combined w/ EDM. It gives me the same vibes as the ONUKA interval act did in Kyiv – it brought the house down.

I don’t know how many Eurofans talk about things like this, but the production on Go_A’s song is absolutely fantastic. KRUT also has a fantastic song with great staging, I always love an led that behaves like a music video, and those do tend to warrent good results when paired with a decent song. (hey there Hungary 2013) This is a high quality lineup, any of these songs could lead to decent placing at the final (with the exception of “Vegan” or “Horizon” probably.)

Strongest final of the season, Ukraine has lots of talent. Go_A or Khayat for me, but KRUT? is amazing too. Jerry is fun, it makes me laugh a lot despite I find “Vegan” very offensive to vegan community. I don’t understand the hyoe with Tvorchi, to be honest.

And David is… Dated?

Well, Tvorchi have no staging. But I like the charismatic singer and the cool hook.
Khayat has a staging, but his timbre in English is terrible, and that will not change. The song is not bad, but… like from the 90s.
So, I dont know
I will give the 3rd place to Vegan.
Go A – Too negative, loud and aggressive for me.
Krut – Bored
David Axelrod – Bored

Ukraine has good songs, but imho everyone needs to fix smt: (In no particular order) 1. Solovey: I like the studio cut but it sounded quite whiny and shouty in the sf, to the point it hurted me a bit. 2. Vegan: fun lyrics, but it’s too much on stage. 3. Krut’: it’s magical but leaves me cold. If they can tell the story better, maybe it would work. 4. Bonfire: like the melody and the drop, but the vocals were questionable. It gave me the impression the vocalist wanted to vomit sometimes. 5. Call for love: Great visuals and… Read more »

My top: 1. KHAYAT – Call for Love (7) 2. TVORCHI – Bonfire (6.75) 3. Krutb – 99 (6.5) 4. Go_A – Solovey (6.5) 5. Jerry Heil – #VEGAN (6.25) 6. David Axelrod – Horizon (4) I think this is a three way race for KHAYAT, TVORCHI and Krut’. What’s more, given the fact that TVORCHI and Krut’ won both the televote and the jury vote in their respective SF, I would say the final comes down to those two. Krut’ is nice and it takes you in an spiritual journey but the live performance is a bit underwhelming in… Read more »

If Khayat doesn’t do anything about that English, he will go the path of Melovin. Melovin also had ”special” English and ended up getting nothing from the juries. The televoters might vote for this but the juries will kill it. I mean, who needs a broken English entry when you can sing in your native language that everybody seem to like anyway!!

I think in the studio version she does her own back vocal and they failed to find a back vocalist that matches her voice. But other entries in this Vidbir also had problems with the back vocals so it might be a sound issue.

Vegan or Solovey should win. Good vocals for both, one song is unique and traditional and the other is modern and “popular”. What is bad in both songs, is that they may annoy a lot of people(Vegan hype or “grandma” voice) Tvorchi – good song, but the live performance was awefull , bad vocals in my opinion. Khayat – Good song, regarding his English and pronounce – it is not bad pronounce it his his voice and sing style, he sings with the same pronounce in Ukrainian which sounds a little strange too. But it his style and its uniq.… Read more »
