Last weekend, THE ROOP won the grand final of Lithuania‘s Pabadom iš naujo! 2020, topping both the televote and jury vote. However, the official televote figures have now been revised, after it was discovered that due to technical disruptions, some SMS votes had not been counted on the night.

However, THE ROOP’s victory is secure. Not only are the “On Fire” performers still kings of the televote, but their winning margin was increased by almost 10,000 votes.

Broadcaster LRT confirmed the televote figures have officially been revised from the totals given at the grand final.

The revised voting figures were confirmed by the auditing firm Grant Thornton Baltic. They recounted the national final televotes following information from TCG Telecom, providers of the televote service — both SMS and telephone votes.

TCG had reported that due to high volumes of SMS traffic on the night, around 24,000 messages were delayed in reaching the voting system.

The revised votes still favoured THE ROOP. The group picked up over 15,500 more votes, giving them a total of 50,139 televotes. THE ROOP’s new televote total is more than double the 24,694 that Jurijis Veklenko got last year for “Run with the Lions”.

Artist Grand final televote total Extra votes Revised televote total
THE ROOP 34,585 15,554 50,139
Moniqué 10,366 5596 15,962
Aistė Pilvelytė 6479 891 7370
Monika Marija 5439 1131 6570
Rūta Loop 1528 338 1866
KaYra 1109 199 1308
The Backs 682 284 966
MEANDI 467 236 703
TOTAL 60,655 24,229 84,884

While some acts received more points than others with the extra votes, it wasn’t enough to change the overall result.

As well, the Pabadom iš naujo final score was calculated by converting the televote and jury vote into points on the traditional Eurovision 12-points scale. Regardless of how many extra points THE ROOP picked up, they could never get more than 12 points from the televote.

The overloading on the night could have been due to the unexpected popularity of the revamped national final. A combination of the new-look grand final at Kaunas Žalgiris Arena and eight high-quality finalist acts meant that Lithuanians were tuning in in droves.

650,000 viewers watched the show — a 14.2% peak of the available television audience. LRT say that one-quarter of Lithuanians tuned in to watch the grand final at some point.

What do you think? Are you impressed by THE ROOP’s new total? Does this bode well for them at Eurovision? Tell us your thoughts below!

My initial thoughts were “This isn’t going to qualify” but now after 3-4 listens I can’t stop it 🙂 Still it might have some problems with the casual ESC viewer. It looks like a copy-pasted circus. We can even see last year’s “crown” that Bilal gave us.

Just for your records. This hads/fire gesture was made by The Roop in 2017, way before Bilal.

Lithuania will slay. The only thing they have to work on are the camera angles, i would love to see more their signature dance and not wide shots.

It’s not the song I would have picked, but it’s perfect for Eurovision and I can see a top 10 televote finish for Lithuania in Rotterdam. I’m really happy for them! As for winning, I don’t really see it, but a good top 10 would be well deserved.

I agree. The song itself is a little too repetitive and not good enough to win. But the total package is top 10 material. Something like Czech 2019.

Looking good for Lithuania pretty high percentage of the vote in a decent national final is always a good sign for eurovision. Never understood why jurys push through songs that finish second or third in a national televote then somehow expect a different result when it gets to the big stage at eurovision. I mean it’s not rocket science is it.

Also not the first winner by landslide in a national final that does poorly in Eurovision televoting… It’s not rocket science but also not that predictible…

The numbers of televotes they got is impressive! I can’t wait to see how they do in May and I wish them the best. And congratulations to Lithuania, to me this was an excellent national selection and one of their strongest, with loads of talent. Definitely my favorite selection of the year so far 🙂

The competition was awesome since the first heat. Lithuanian selection improved a lot. Even though they could shorten it by one more show.

Yes, Lithuania didn’t really have many good songs this year. Everybody else in their selection would not qualify in May

Well, having one of the best indoor arenas in Europe definitely helps. Lithuania has always been my secret dream host ever since I’ve watched Euroleague there.

Yep Lithuania has a great indoor stadium with a capacity of 20 000. The 6th biggest indoor in Europe. Belgium has the top capacity with over 23000 at the Sportpaleis 🙂

50k televotes is a huge number for a Lithuanian final, if we consider that the usual figure for the winner is around 20-25k. The only other time that a winner got such a high number of televotes was LT United and they still got around 35k. THE ROOP have some good potential to become a televoting magnet in May and give to Lithuania a really good result.

Anyone know if there is a reason for these numbers? I mean, they’re double what they recorded last year.
Have they always had SMS voting?

The total number of televotes is similar to last year (it was 82,075 vs 84,884 this year) and consider also that the viewing figures increased significantly. THE ROOP simply won the televoting by a landslide.

Lithuania have really gotten their act together after last year. They ran a tight selection with almost no hiccups and a great crop of songs to choose from.

It turned out right in this situation, but they’ll have to be very careful in the future. Imagine if act A wins by 250 votes of difference and later assessments show that runner-up B had 300 votes withheld due to procedural mistake. They’d have to take someone’s victory away afterwards and that would be very awkward and kind of unfair to both acts. So, learn from this and move on.
