Eurovision 2020 Favourite Act so Far

Another weekend, another batch of fresh entries. As of the afternoon of Sunday 23 February, there are officially 14 songs confirmed for Eurovision 2020.

In the past two days, we’ve seen national finals wrap up in Ukraine, Slovenia and Poland.

But who is your favourite Eurovision 2020 act so far? Do you have a new number one? Or can Lithuania’s The Roop do two in a row? Or could Albania’s Arilena Ara reclaim her crown? It’s time to vote!

You can listen to all five new entries below. Then vote in our poll. Choose wisely, you can only vote ONE time. Voting ends early on Wednesday, 26 February — just ahead of announcements from the UK and Germany.

We will then relaunch the poll on Thursday to include the new songs, along with any other entries which may drop in the interim.

New Eurovision 2020 entries as of 23 February

Go_A “Solovey”

While considerably less dramatic than last year’s edition, Ukraine’s Vidbir 2020 still managed to serve up some fierce competition. Go_A emerged victorious in a six-song final, topping both the jury and public votes. The four-piece bring the Ukrainian-language “Solovey”, which fuses traditional singing styles with modern beats.

Ana Soklič “Voda”

Before the EMA 2020 final, all focus was on familiar names like Tinkara Kovač from Eurovision 2014 and Lina Kuduzović from Junior Eurovision 2015. However, Ana Soklič flew under the radar to snatch the crown from Lina in the superfinal. Her old-school ballad “Voda” marks Slovenia’s third Slovenian-language entry in as many years.

Alicja Szemplińska “Empires”

In an effort to replicate its Junior Eurovision success at the main contest, Poland used the Szansa na sukces TV talent show to find its act. That saw three weeks of covers lead to a three-act final. Alicja Szemplińska came out on top, ahead of Albert Černý who represented the Czech Republic in 2019.

Who is your favourite Eurovision 2020 act so far? (23 February)

[crowdsignal poll=10509943]

Which of the eleven is your favourite? Could any of them win the contest in May? Let us know in the comments.

I still cant vote for Romania , but i really like 1 of her 5 songs , if they choose cherry red , i think thats easy top 3 with the voters and jury. So far , out of all the songs that i herd , thats the only one i liked. And also i belive that this song will sound alot better live then the studio version. Am i the only one who thinks that?

Italy is still my favorite! Lithuania is really growing on me. Out of new songs, Ukraine is definitely my favorite. It’s really unique! Slovenia and Poland joined the club of “we’ll see” ballads.
I’m waiting for the UK, Belarus, Croatia, Estonia and Iceland now. Hoping that Oculis videre and Young / Beautiful Lie / Out In Space will join my “WOW” category!

Gabriela, first of all, chill little bit and before you saying something, just think if you need to ….cause clever people before says thinks first. Second, just think a little bit of respect, cause when you disrespect others you actually disrespect ONLY YOURSELF. Third, i feel that you are kind of human who comes, makes rumours and goes. So please, better just keep your opinion for yourself and please learn, when to shut your mouth up.
By the way, lots of love, cause i do feel you need it so much !

It’s not just odds. How many views does Albanian song has?
1,3 million and the video is on YouTube for 2 months (thats 20,000+ views per day)
Lithuania has almost 1,8 million views in 8-9 days (thats around 200,000 views per day)

Crowd Signal is constantly blacklisting their fake VPN IP’s (there are two persons behind these fake Lithuanian votes, one in Klaipeda and another in Kaunas), hence their slow voting rate. They still might be able to crack this poll but it will be the last one of such luck.

at the moment there are only 3 songs with a fresh progressive sound – lithuania – ukraine – latvia – the rest is always the same old boring stuff. ukraine is a good test for the jurys – they have a very 2020 sound and they singing in their language – i like that a lot but countrys who are singing in their own language often crashed because the jurys are silly and englishjunkies. my favorites so far: at no.1 lithuania & ukraine together (but i will miss the white angel a little bit too – this very strong magic… Read more »

As for the second semi: Poland could, like I said before, be in their first position to qualify with both the televote and the juries if their performance is good (I’m almost positive they’ve been struggling as much as they have with the juries because their staging is usually pretty unmemorable, or too gaudy in the case of the milkmaids. I’m not entirely sure why they did as badly as they did with Michal Szpak, though). This is a more NF-heavy semi so there’s obviously ways countries could swing from totally safe to totally screwed, and sometimes the same performers… Read more »

I wouldn’t be so sure about Slovenia or Ukraine. Slovenia pretty much demands a jury push if it’s going to get through, like North Macedonia last year. Ukraine could be off-putting to people who aren’t used to that kind of singing, given the Tulia comparisons. (But they got close and they were freaking robbed, so go and do them justice, Go_A. At least we know Belarus isn’t in any danger of taking anyone’s spot in the final this year). Australia I’m a little nervous for as well if they don’t fix the staging, and Belgium could sweep that jury vote… Read more »

Oh, and Sweden! Sweden have ways of breezing through as usual and ways of getting screwed. We’ve seen them advance even with few Nordic countries around and fail to advance even with a solid bolstering from them (Denmark and Norway both gave them 12’s in 2010, but nothing doing). If they pick someone like Dotter or the Mamas, they’re safe. If they pick someone like Robin Bengtsson, they’re 100% out of there.

And with Croatia, we know diddly even though they’re doing a national final, so they’re either safe or (if they send another Roko) very very screwed.

Joe

Sweden I’d call 85% safe. Ukraine you may be right on. I can’t say I know where your confidence is coming from with Slovenia, since even if they make it I don’t think they’d “sail through,” but we shall see.

Yes and no. Like you said, the song has to be good, or if people don’t understand it the staging has to be amazing. Slovenia is another ballad in a semi that’s shaping up to have a bunch of them, so they’ll need to be really on-point if they want to advance. They don’t have much neighborly support so if they want to qualify that’s all they can hope for.

Czech Republic is already great and the revamp (apparently it has guitar!) looks very promising. Benny sounds like a great guy who’s open to feedback and improvement, the precise kind of performer that the Czech Republic does well with and the kind that guarantees a good result. They’ve lately been excellent at getting performers with radio-friendly sounds who nevertheless have an even give-and-take with the Czech creative team.

Its the repetition that kills it for me. After a very exciting start, the song just loops into a very unsatisfying ending. If they can fix the last third of the song, i’ll be all in.

How did anyone think that was a good idea for any reason whatsoever, ESPECIALLY if it’s the first time they needed to qualify to compete in the final? Who did they think would vote for it? Even Austria and Germany weren’t going to touch it, just like not even Ireland or Malta would lower themselves to vote for Jemini the year before.
