All the competing entries for Melodifestivalen 2020 are now available on streaming platform Spotify. And now we can see how the Melfest songs are stacking up in Spotify‘s general Swedish Top 50 chart. The latest chart update shows that the Top 50 is packed with acts from Melfest, and may offer clues as to how the final two weeks of Melodifestivalen 2020 will play out.

Melfest acts haven’t managed to take the top two spots in the chart — those belong to Swedish singer Victor Leksell and Canadian R&B star The Weeknd — but there are plenty of Melfest acts in the rest of the top ten.

Semi-final four qualifier Hanna Ferm is the highest-charting Mello act. She is sitting at No.3 with her song “Brave”. Closely following is Anis don Demina at No.4. His song “Vem e som oss” remains popular, suggesting he’ll have no trouble qualifying out of this week’s andra chansen round.

While Dotter is leading the odds to win Melfest 2020, she is only at No.5 in the Spotify chart with her song “Bulletproof”.

The Mamas are also in the chart’s top ten. Their song “Move” is sitting at No.8. Rounding out the top ten is Anna Bergendahl, whose “Kingdom Come” is in at No.9

The chart positions also give clues as to how the andra chansen duels will play out. If chart popularity is anything to go by, we could be seeing Anis don Demina, Paul Rey, Felix Sandman and Drängarna heading to the grand final at Friends Arena.

Spotify Sweden Top 50 – Melodifestivalen acts (25 February 2020)

  • 3. Hanna Ferm – “Brave” (126,199 daily plays)
  • 4. Anis don Demina – “Vem är som oss” (114,835 daily plays)
  • 5. Dotter – “Bulletproof” (110,046 daily plays)
  • 8. The Mamas – “Move” (100,739 daily plays)
  • 9. Anna Bergendahl – “Kingdom Come” (97,314 daily plays)
  • 11. Drängarna – “Piga och dräng” (90,292 daily plays)
  • 14. Victor Crone – “Troubled Waters” (85,257 daily plays)
  • 18. Robin Bengtsson – “Take a Chance” (77,485 daily plays)
  • 21. Paul Rey – “Talking in My Sleep” (69,235 daily plays)
  • 31. William Stridh – “Molnljus” (59,899 daily plays)
  • 33. Mohombi – “Winners” (59,732 daily plays)
  • 34. Jakob Karlberg – “Om du tror att jag saknar dig” (56,686 daily plays)
  • 37. Méndez feat. Alvaro Estrella – “Vamos amigos” (59,732 daily plays)
  • 39. Mariette – “Shout It Out” (51,475 daily plays)
  • 45. Malou Prytz – “Ballerina” (49,904 daily plays)
  • 48. Felix Sandman – “Boys with Emotions” (48,493 daily plays)

The andra chansen round of Melodifestivalen 2020 will be held this Saturday, 29 February.

People say that it’s the worst Melfest in years but I personally LOVE this edition. For once there is not only one favourite but three, things are really unpredictible. Plus there are very good songs in the selection able to do well at ESC, and one that has a shot for the win (Bulletproof). I didnt like 2018 and 2019 as much as this year – everything was written from the start and it was not super exciting.

I feel like Bulletproof and Brave are opposites in the way they are presented. “Brave” in studio version sounds really good and you understand why it got the last spot. It has that catchy hit factor. However live it is an mess. Shady vocals, staging bad. She could improve it of course on the final night but still.. “Bulletproof” however is different. Studio version is pretty good and solid but it’s the staging that elevates it. It’s the “Fuego” of the season. The staging is very artistic and she turns a song that anybody could have sung into HER song.… Read more »

Bulletproof comes alive onstage, this is really a full package pretty much like Fuego as you said. The performance has a unique identity. Brave just falls flat onstage and is not memorable.

Dotter is definitely the best song. It is time for Sweden to send a woman again.
I don’t get the excitement about Anna. Very overrated.
Mariette and Malou songs/performances are also very nice.

Metalvision Song Contest

I’m not sure how much the Spotify ranks say about the likelihood of winning Melodifestivalen. Given that the televoters tend to eliminate all the Swedish-language songs every year, I was starting to wonder why people would even compete with songs in Swedish – until I realised that some are just competing in the show for domestic Spotify plays, whereas others are in it to actually go to Eurovision (and then the latter, in turn, could care less about Spotify, because for Eurovision, the staging is much more important). That is, unless the jury that votes in the final of Melodifestivalen… Read more »

Anna or Dotter are the only worthy to send, not sure what people see in Hanna’s song? It’s just a mediocre dated TeenPop with weak live vocals and quite a boring performance. It would fit as a filler song on a Katy Perry album from 2009. I would take Spotify plays with a grain of salt really, firstly you can see that it’s more dominated by semi 4 entries because they are freshest to mind, and SVT didn’t allow entrants to release their songs on Spotify prior semi 4 being finished, also listeners are usually younger where’s in Melodifestivalen the… Read more »

I think that this is a really close battle which is good for me, because after three years we dont know the winner 2 weeks before the final. As for Dotter and Hanna i love them both and i cant imagine them beeing an esc non qualifier. I do believe though that Dotter can do better because of her staging. But it is upon the swedish public to decide which is the best option for them so… P.S. I totally get that the international fans want Dotter to win and thats ok because it is indeed a good song. Hanna isn’t my favourite but I’m sure if Sweden sent her, she would still qualify. This song grabs you from the first moment. And it’s not a ballad.
However, Sweden has other good options too, the selection is very strong.

Agree, I mean people say this year is weak but to be honest it is the strongest we had in many years, there is no clear winner and many songs would do well without Melodifestivalen as well.
I think people believe it is a weak year because the winner is so hard to predict. If it was easy to predict the winner I would say the rest of the songs are weak to be honest. And no, Dotter is no clear winner for sure, we will know in two weeks because jury and televote might differ alot.

Hanna would qualify that’s for sure but do well in final Im not sure. It can be seen as yet another plastic shallow soulless entry that Europe is tired of seeing and im not sure they would like it more cause it’s a girl singing it.

Brave as a studio cut is quite compelling and I understand why it was given spot 28 this year, but while Bulletproof was a revelation live, Brave was a hot mess- mediocre vocals and abysmal staging. If Hanna won they could reach top 10 (but nothing more) but unlike in previous years they’d have to overhaul the staging and not merely transplant it.

Oh yes, I know! But based on what? I’m worried the odds will be dead wrong this year! Or perhaps they put 2 and 2 together.? With the International juries + enough televotes they consider her to have the highest chance of winning.

I think it’s the staging- Brave is a good studio track but was a hot mess live whereas Bulletproof had innovative staging . Moreover, both Anna and Dotter have a classic underdog story that might resonate with the public.

Odds can never be that wrong. It’s statistics and no one would do betting if they are wrong often. With such high odds third is the worst she should get
They take everything in consideration: hype, juryvoting, televoting, accesability, streaming, staging above all. Nothing is random, if Dotter is that high up there is a reason for it and a reason why Hannah is third. Of course it doesn’t mean Dotter will win, just that she is the most likely to win.

Dont like Hannas song at all, hate that type of chorus. But i dont really enjoy Dotters Chorus either, maybe thats why i dont understand The big buzz about The song, i like pretty much everything else but for me its in the chorus songs should lift. For me Anna have no doubt The best chorus that really lift The song.
In The end tho i will be happy with either Dotter or Anna winning.

Update among the DTF finalists…

YouTube:
1. Hanna Ferm (152K)
2. Dotter (150K)
3. Anna Bergendahl (97K)
4. The Mamas (79K)
5. Victor Crone (74K)

iTunes:
1. Anna Bergendahl (#1)
2. Hanna Ferm (#2)
3. Dotter (#5)
4. Victor Crone (#6)
5. The Mamas (#9)

The fight is really going to be tough between our 3 girlies

And add the international juries to that. Who will they support? It can be really close between these three women in the televotes, so the international juries will have much power this year. But if they also spread their votes with no clear winner then.. oh oh!

The most interesting thing about the final is that it doesn’t matter at all who will get the MOST votes. It’s whoever gets the most POINTS from each 8 televote groups that wins the televote. And looking by how streams, youtube, odds looks like now I think the points gap will be so small with the top 3 that it’s the jury vote that matters and will choose the winner. Who do you think will win the jury???

Helene

I agree it will be nervous wrecking. If Hanna wins at least she will not win with the juries… so then the Eurovision fans can stop saying that Sweden always win the juries. Which is not always true. I think Malta has the greatest difference historically between televotes (few) and juries.

Actually since 2011 and international juries, the juries have always decided the winner. Might be because televotes are more evenly spread out. Only in 2014 and 2016 did the ultimate winner not win juryvotes but then they only lost it within margins. Frans was only point behind Oscar Zia. So whoever wins the juryvoting will most likely win the whole thing

As a swede, I’m absolutely horrified by the love the swedish public seem to have to Hanna Ferm. Nothing towards Hanna, but OMG it’s SOOO BAD!!! The song and performance is like taken from 2003 ? Plus she is just a teenager, sings a song about being ”brave” and it’s way sexual which doesn’t make any sense. Yet the swedish public seem to love it. I do think Dotter is good but I have a feeling Swedes might find her to dark, to serious and instead vote for Hanna Ferm thereby making her the winner. I do think Hanna might be more catchy and appealing. And then we wonder why no one votes for us.. I see this on MF Facebook too. Everyone is about Ferm, no one is about Dotter.
I hope I am wrong though..

Different years though. 2018 was a strong year, but all the strong acts were in SF1 so it was easier for Jessica to qualify. Sweden is in a strong SF this year (historically speaking, since we’re yet to have all the songs), and as you pointed out yourself, Hanna’s nowhere near as charismatic as Jessica. Her song is also more plastic girly bubblegum pop whereas Jessica’s was more of that cliché inspirational love anthem that we love.

Brave is too plastic, which has been a major complain amongst ESC fans reggarding Sweden in the last few years. With such a plastic/souless song and such tacky styling/performance, this could have even less televote appeal than Dance You Off. I also don’t see international juries getting into this song at all. We all like to think Sweden is unbeatable, but they did fail to qualify in 2010 and the same is about to happen 10 years later if Brave wins.

Better than Hanna? I do. Bulletproof has actual emotional depth, which Dotter successfully sells through her performance, and the hair flips are iconic. The staging is great and it very well complements the song. Anna’s song has charisma, personality, it’s inspirational, it’s anthemic, it might not be your cup of tea but you can’t help but to feel joyful when watching her performance.

I guess my point is that while both Bulletproof and Kingdom Come have something going for them, rather it’s charisma, joyness, emotional depth, etc. Brave is just an empty song, and the performance is basically just Hanna Ferm feeling herself for 3 minutes straight in front of fancing lighting (which is how most people felt about Dance You Off, a nice performance that made the viewers feel absolutely nothing).
