Roxen Romania Eurovision 2020

After losing its 100% qualification record in 2018 and missing out again in 2019, Romania is shaking things up with Selectia Naționala 2020. Unlike previous editions, the 1 March final will only feature one artist — Roxen. And over the course of the evening she’ll perform five songs, one of which she’ll take to Eurovision 2020. And while local fans can catch the Eurovision selection by switching their televisions to TVR 1, international viewers will need to try alternative means.

Here’s when and how you can watch the grand final of Selectia Naționala 2020 with Roxen.

Grand final — 1 March 2020

Time: 20:00 CET to 22:40 CET

The grand final of Selectia Naționala will be streamed live on the TVR website.

Watch Selectia Naționala 2020 online.

The selection will see Roxen perform five songs. The results will be determined by a 50/50 jury and public split.

The competing songs are:

  1. “Beautiful Disasters”
  2. “Cherry Red”
  3. “Colors”
  4. “Alcohol You”
  5. “Storm”

The show will be hosted by Eurovision veterans Elena Gheorghe and Connect-R. The former sang for Romania in 2009 while the latter was part of Moldova’s 2006 act. Both hosts are expected will sing too. Elena will reprise “Balkan Girls” with a new twist.  Meanwhile, Connect-R will treat fans to one of his big hits — “Eu vara nu dorm”.

There will also be guest performances from Norway’s Ulrikke, Cyprus’ Sandro and Eurovision 2012 winner Loreen. Dora Gaitanovici, who placed sixth in the 2018 national final, will perform a medley of some of Romania’s best-loved song contest entries.

Fair is a strong word when you sabotage the other songs.

Sabotage is a strong word when you don’t have proof.

In my opinion, it was the best performance tonight. If they intended to be better than the others, I can’t say.

Roxen very clearly and blatantly had a personal favorite song she wanted to send which is why she intentionally made this one have the nicest performance.

very poor performances voice vise. It reminds me Italy last year, it never improved to official clip quality unfortunately. Not gonna get jury vote

Totally disagree about the comparison with Italy. But yeah, there’s some work to do. I felt she got more comfortable during the show, but tonight she’s competing just against herself. She’ll need much more control when paired with a bunch of other singers, some of them very skilled vocalists.

I disagree with your disagreement:D watch Soldi live on stage and official clip, can’t you hear the difference?

I agree, it was the best performance so far. And since “Storm” would be my last choice, I’ll settle down with this one. Can’t understand Romanian, but I believe the jury was more excited about it than about the previous songs.

I love “Beautiful Disaster” (love the totally non-romantic using of lyrics about love) but her vocals weren’t good on this one. I have a feeling “Alcohol For You” will win,

It would work as a response to the Estonian song. 😀

Natalia Gordienco (or Gordienko? I have seen it written both ways) performed in the Romanian national final, this time without live backing vocals. Let’s say she has a lot of work to do from now to May.

On the other hand, Ulrikke (she’s also there) nailed it, as usual.

You’re welcome. 🙂 I’ve noticed that some broadcasters have lotto results or small news bulletins during their finals, maybe that was the case here.

Weird choice to have Roxen just standing there shaking her shoulders while glittered shirtless men dance capoeira around her during “Cherry Red”. The only time she interacted with them, they just (gently) pushed her to the back of the stage.

this is when one singer has to prepare multiple performances. In my opinion half way down compared with profesional videos. sound was not good. or she just chose one song already and prepared really good performance for it

Let’s see how the remaining 2 songs will be performed, but you have a point. I remember that Finland had put much more effort on the entries that ended up winning (and that were also the frontrunners) for Saara Alto and Darude.

They were trying something fancy there, but I don’t think it works. Though capoeira looks great on TV, I wish we could see more of her during the performance. By the way, Roxen looks gorgeous and her costumes are great so far.

That running order makes no sense. They should start with a banger that isn’t the favourite Storm, go slower with Colors, then the awkward middle child Beautiful Disaster, pick up the pace with Cherry Red and then end with fan favourite highlight Alcohol You.

No he won’t! He will release the song on the 6th of March allegedly alongside the video. It would be so stupid to premiere the song on another country’s national final don’t you think?

I really hope Alcohol You is chosen. It’s the only one of her songs that I listen to on repeat. Other people really like Cherry Red, but I see it as a generic Latin song that does not stand out to me. Alcohol You sounds so mysterious and magical simultaneously.

There are many ballads in ESC this year. Cherry Red would do great in Rotterdam.

That’t the common excuse people always say “There’s already many ballads.” I reply to you poppycock! How many non-ballads are there? if it’s half half then it’s fine.

While Alcohol You is by far my favorite song, I really feel like we need a song like Cherry Red to liven up the contest so as long as either of those two win I’ll be content!!

I get what you mean but just because many other countries decided to send middle of the road balladas doesn’t mean that Romania shouldn’t send its ‘ballad’ masterpiece Alcohol You. Looking at what other countries are sending isn’t a good idea.

Who said it was spelled incorrectly? Open your mind. In some countries “colors” is spelled correctly. In others, “colours” is the correct spelling. As I write “colour” my computer is telling me it’s wrong. 🙂
Fact is, both spellings are correct!
