Romania opted for a radical change in to this year’s Selecția Națională, internally selecting 20 year old singer Roxen and shortlisting five songs to proceed to the revamped national final.
In the mix is an emotional love track “Alcohol You”, the empowering song “Storm”, the deep house sounding “Colours”, the Latino-infused “Cherry Red” and the edgy track “Beautiful Disaster”.
We asked you which one out of Roxen’s five tracks you’d like her to send to Eurovision in Rotterdam. With over 5,300 votes collated, you decided that “Cherry Red” was your pick of the bunch.
“Cherry Red” accumulated 2,396 of all votes cast, amounting for 44.6%. Closely behind was “Alcohol You”, which amassed 38.5% of all votes – the vote was tight, y’all!
Much further behind was the superhero-inspired “Storm”, which received 7.6% of votes. “Beautiful Disaster” received 5.4% of votes, while “Colours” faded behind on 3.9%.

The winning song will be selected by a combination of jury and televote, in an even 50/50 split. In the case of a tie, the public vote will indicate the winning song.

Watching the Romanian show to select their song. Sometimes I wonder why countries pick the wrong song in the end. Is it really necessary for this show to drag on. Would it not make sense to perform each of Roxen’s songs in sequence , one after the other , and not have all these very long acts in between . I know the target audience are Romanians , it is their show , their selection , I respect that , but Roxens songs appear to be lost in between all of these other interlude acts . What makes everyone like her so much? Is she a world super star in every country but mine? There are so many more talented and gifted performers participating at this years Eurovision already but here we go, people are for this mediocre singer. Wow, just wow.
Her music sounds more current that what I heard so far. It doesn’t matter if She’s famous or not. There are no world wide known singers in ESC usually. And when there are, they do a horrible interval act and get mocked for it for the rest of their lives.
Alcohol You is a winner . This is the type of ballad and slow song which gets a country to win the whole shabang! All depends now on her vocals and stage presence . Good luck , this is the best song so far from any country . Winner winner winner , written all over it .
Non qualification for Romania if a ballad is sent for the 3rd year in a row
Although I love all five, I think they should send Cherry Red since it is the closest song to her genre (Deep House). Also, we already have enough ballads.

The fake Latino/Spaniard vibe of the song that’s been so popular lately in Europe (looking at you, Foureira) gets on my nerves, but it’s still the best of the bunch and, most importantly, the one more sorely needed to spice up the lineup. Alcohol you is artsy, sure, but a snoozefest. My personal favorite is Beautiful Disaster tho, the lyrics are amazing and it feels very on brand for Romania.
If the Spanish fans love and vote Cherry Red because of a few Spanish words from the song, maybe it’s a good idea for them to create a song like this one for their representative. We love and want Alcohol you for Rotterdam!

I like Alcohol You but we have enough ballads this year. Cherry Red should wake the audience up.
All the songs are good quality and all the songs would be successful at Eurovision (I have some doubts about Colours, but I still can’t deny it’s high quality). Problem is Cherry Red is really anonimous. Anyone could sing it. On the contrary Alcohol You is distinctly Roxen’s song and no one else could sing it in her style. I prefer Alcohol You, just because many other countries chose middle of the road ballads doesn’t mean that Romania needs to dismiss their ballad masterpiece.
But after Arcade the winner this year will not be a ballad.
I think Romania doesn’t necessarily wans to win (But a win would be amazing). I think getting a top 10 result in the final is what TVR is looking for and either Alcohol You and Cherry Red will get us there regardless.
I don’t want to risk the “all the songs are trying to copy last year’s winner” curse again. We let a slow pared back song win last year and now most of the entries so far are slow or kind of a snooze. If we let one win again then 2021 is also gonna be all slow songs.
Every year there’s some overhyped generic latin pop entry with good looking singer.
