On Saturday night, all eyes will turn to Elvas for the end of Portugal’s national final.
Eight acts will take to the stage for the final of Festival da Canção 2020. But only one can win the Portuguese ticket to Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam.
Eurovision 2018 host Filomena Cautela and Vasco Palmeirim are back to present the proceedings.
Portugal has been on a downhill trend since the lofty heights of victory in 2017. This year’s act will hope to reverse that trajectory. With a last place and non-qualification in the past two years, the only way is up.
And now we want to know who you think should win. Perhaps you’re charmed by “Passe Partout”? Or maybe “Medo de Sentir” moves you? Or it could be that “Abensonhado” has your vote? Whichever act you’re backing we want to hear from you.
You can vote in our poll for as many acts as you like, but make your vote count because you can only cast it once. We’ll close the poll ahead of the live show on March 7.
Who should win Festival da Cançao 2020
1. Filipe Sambado – “Gerbera amarela do Sul”
2. Jimmy P – “Abensonhado”
3. Tomás Luzia – “Mais real que o amor”
4. Elisa Rodrigues – “Não voltes mais”
5. Throes + The Shine – “Movimento”
6. Kady – “Diz só”
7. Elisa – “Medo de sentir”
8. Bárbara Tinoco – “Passe-Partout”
[polldaddy poll=10514016]The winning Portuguese act will compete in the second half of Semi-Final 2.
Last year’s Portuguese act Conan Osiris failed to advance from the semi-finals. His avant garde track “Telemóveis” finished fifteenth, despite picking up the maximum marks from French and Spanish televoters.
Which song is your favourite? Do you think Portugal can make it out of the semi-finals this year? Let us know in the comment below!
Whoever wins better film a music video for their entry before going to Rotterdam.
Barbara or Throes…
Really good music here: Personally I fell in love from the first listen to the moving ballad of Elisa, but I would stage it more “natural”. If it’ll win, it’s the best ballad this year for me. I love Jimmy P’s Rap too – so raw and full of energy! I would love to see it also in Rotterdam. Barbara is cute and will stand out (and I think she will win Festival da Canção), Throes + The Shine have a great song and staging as well. Really fun! And I absolutely love the chilling Kady. So, thank you Portugal… Read more »
Million people say, Bárbara Tinoco!!
Yes please <3
I love Medo de Sentir but it feels more and more like other female ballads already in the contest and in Portuguese it would have a hard time qualifying. Passe-partout feels unlike anything picked for the contest right. It is cute, a throwback and a proper song that can appeal to the older voter and the old-at-heart.
I think Throes + The Shine would be the best option: modern and unique in Eurovision while showing some local flavour. The others just weren’t enough live. Elisa was good but a bit underwhelming live. It would be a non-qualifier in May. My top for the final:
1. Throes + The Shine – Movimento (6.75)
2. Elisa – Medo de Sentir (6.5)
3. Jimmy P – Abensonhado (6.25)
4. Bárbara Tinoco – Passe-Partout (6)
Well, personally I would go for Jimmy P. I know the genre is risky and has not done well in Eurovision. But… I think that there is lot of potential. First, he has his music house behind him, which could give a helping hand with the staging (one of the best stagings in the FdC so far). The gospel choir is great and can have a fantastic role in the staging as well. And the song has a universal message: “I was lost but now I am found”. With key-messages in English and other languages to tell the story blended… Read more »
Waw, you are really in tune what is happening in FdC 🙂 Yes, I forgot about Elisa, because I have the feeling that she is not a real contender to win FdC. But, yes, I totally get what you say. Her song, of course, represents the good old-fashioned Portuguese ballad tradition in ESC. But as you say she might be forgotton, especially because she sings in Portuguese. In this song, it would be completely justifiable to sing in English and if that would happen she could have a glimpse of a chance to qualify. Also, she should work in projecting… Read more »
Really hope Filipe wins <3
What are you talking about?… Of course your opinion matters 😉
No, they’re not.
We already know, 2020 Portugal will send a sad song like almost every year.
For me this was one of the best selections of the year. And i also agree with the poll, passe partout all the way.
Didn’t Conan Osiris won Barbara Dex award last year? They’re on revenge and sending Barbara now but the Barbara Dex 2020 will go to the pajamas of Iceland.
One day they’ll realise that the salvador song was a one off and a NF full of snooze fest songs isn’t gonna help them qualify like at least put one pop song in for diversity lol
You clearly didn’t listen the songs, so why give your opinion, if you don’t know the songs at all..
I’m rooting for Bárbara and Throes + The Shine. I think both have something that can make Portugal stand out in Rotterdam. I also love Elisa, but I fear this song sadly could be lost in the semi and the country needs a good result so Festival da Canção can keep this format that is generating a lot of quality entries. I would keep an eye on Jimmy P, he can be the surprise in the final. Plus Sambado and Kady are very good performers, even if their songs are less showy than the frontrunners.
AHAHAHAHAH
who told you about the “portoguese” fans are really happy with nf their songs??? I’m sorry but they lied to you sweety
The only for Portugal to qualify is with “Passe-Partout”.
My absolute favorites are Barbara and Elisa (the one singing Medo de sentir), Throes + The Shine would be really close. I also really like Kady, Filipe and Jimmy P. Tomas and Elisa R. are okay too. Portugal won’t be embarrassing themselves in any case.
For me it’s THROES + THE SHINE – “MOVIMENTO… it’s my favorite of the remaining songs. But good luck to all the participants nonetheless.
I’m a Barbara fan but I think we have given her the kiss of death with this poll. The winner of these polls never is the winner of the selection.
As a Portuguese, I’m almost sure that Bárbara will win the televote. She is really popular right now in Portugal and every radio stations plays her music. The only one that can beat her – although I doubt it – is Jimmy P, because he has a solid fan base. Elisa is good, but she isn’t a recognizable face for most of the Portuguese and the song doesn’t have a big televote appeal. In the jury, I really don’t know. I think Bárbara will also score high and win it, but I’m not sure at all. Probably Elisa will be… Read more »
I’m Portuguese and voting for Jimmy P. The song did not interess me when I heard the studio version, but the live version blown me away. I really think this can make the difference. I like Medo de Sentir and Passe-Partout, but Jimmy P really took it to another level.
Portugal is giving us MUSIC with their national selection every year. Thank you!
Portugal, please don’t choose Barbara. It is not that I feel indifferent to the song, it is that it encompasses everything I can’t abide in music – over the top expressions, believing itself to be cleverer than it is, insane sickliness. If this gets through, for the first time ever I think i will have to switch over the channel – I literally cannot get through 3 minutes of it.
Movimento all the way, but basically anything but Barbara!
Please!
As you are downvoted, I am here to express my solidarity with you and that I agree 100% with you
As do I. I still have some spots left in my top five and I would gladly put Portugal in there but not with Barbara. Filipe or Movimento sure would fit in there though.
I will be honest, Elisa has the best performance of all but with so many ballads it just doesn’t have enough to stand put. I think Bárbara would be the best choice because it could have that cute effect that Denmark was able to get from viewers last year. And that may be enough to help them through the finals
For me there’s one answer – Barbara and Barbara only. I’m in love with that track and I don’t think we’ve ever heard anything like this at Eurovision (or at least in the last 40 years). I’d also say that “Passe-Partout” has the best chance to achieve a good result – it’s neither as risky as “Telemoveis” nor as alternative as “O Jardim” – it’s the happy medium – an entry that’s both accessible and outstanding. That being said, I’d be happy with any of these songs winning.
I would be very happy, if its Movimento, but sadly it has no chance. I hope whatever they choose to be proud and to be deserving winner. Good luck.
Portugal please pick up Elisa’s song, it’s very nice, pleasant and have Portuguese soul unlike Barbara’s. Kisssesss
The majority of songs in this final would instantly be my new #1 if selected, but I have a preference for Filipe Sambado, Elisa Rodrigues, and Throes + The Shine. Hope one of them wins!
Buuuuut if I had to pick one, “Gerbera Amarela do Sul” all the way. 🙂
Me too.
Wait what? What happened with Rebellion???
It was just horrible live
Only Medo de sentir can save Portugal
That’s not how you use “issa”.
I agree with the poll, Barbara or Elisa
Como si tu opinión tuviera alguna relevancia ?
Passe-partout por favor and Portugal is back in the game.
I also like Movimento and Abensonhado but I think this style of music could be quite risky for struggling to reach the final.
Abensonhado is pure magic.
Filipe and his Gerbera amarela is overall the best and most original song for me, but the drag outfit is simply too much and will ruin his chances of winning.
What drag outfit? He wore shorts.
Gerbera Amarela is my favorite, but most of these are good entries. Movimento, Diz So, Medo de Sentir and Passe Partout would all do well at eurovision. Portugal can be proud of a great NF.
Couple of good options here, but I still like Passe partout best.
