On February 25th we explained why we wanted to see Senhit competing at the Eurovision Song Contest again. And now we are pleased to announce that our wish has been granted.
Senhit confirmed the news to Wiwibloggs during an exclusive ride in the London Eye overlooking the Thames. She told our William that she wants fans to choose between two songs: FREAKY and OBSESSED.
“I decided to do this because I’m super confused,” she says in our video below. “I’m FREAKY about one song and I’m super OBSESSED about the other song. So let the followers decide for us.”
“For me Eurovision was a very big opportunity in 2011. I have beautiful memories about that contest. So when San Marino called me and asked me to do it again I was super glad and super happy to say YES.”
“But I’ve decided to say thanks to all the fans that have followed me since then, to do this kind of game, to do this digital battle. It’s like a gift to the fans to choose which song I can sing for the Eurovision 2020 Song Contest.”
Senhit to represent San Marino at Eurovision 2020
San Marino RTV has made it official that the Italian singer of Eritrean origin will fly the flag of the small republic in Rotterdam.
Forty-year-old Senhit Zadik Zadik participated at Eurovision 2011 with the smooth ballad “Stand By”. Then spelling her name Senit, she failed to make it to the final.
Nine years after that experience, she returns to the song contest with a renewed image and style, ready to offer an explosive performance and to reach a third grand final for San Marino after Valentina Monetta in 2014 and Serhat in 2019.
Senhit won’t be alone in this adventure. Behind her is Luca Tommassini — for years one of the leading names in Italian show business — who she’s chosen as creative director for this year’s Sammarinese participation.
About Senhit
Senhit was born and raised in Bologna to Eritrean parents. She began her career at the age of 20, in the world of musicals, performing in German-speaking countries in shows such as “Fame” and “The Lion King”.
The singer has released several albums and an EP, and has a long list of singles, both in Italian and English. Among the most recent ones are “Something on your mind“, “Un bel niente” and “Heart ache“.
Senhit is a multi-faceted talent, who has lived in various cities around the world and has approached many different styles of music. Her oeuvre spans Italian pop to ballads, rock, country, electropop, house, dance and soul.
Beyond music Senhit is also a YouTuber. For a couple of years, she has been publishing short vlogs on her channel. These include fashion tips and backstage extracts from her projects.
Senhit is an Italian voice with an international background, who does not forget to celebrate her African roots. It’s the perfect combination for a Eurovision that’s chosen the slogan #OpenUp.
About Luca Tommassini
Luca Tommassini is an Italian choreographer, director and dancer with international experience.
He has toured with many superstars, including Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Kylie Minogue. He also appeared in official videos such as Madonna’s “Human Nature” and Michael Jackson’s “Blood on the Dance Floor” and choreographed Geri Halliwell in “Mi chico latino” and “It’s Raining Men”.
His CV includes an even longer list of products. Among the many, we remember the decade-long collaboration with X Factor Italy, of which he oversaw the artistic direction; the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008, The X Factor UK, X Factor Spain and popular Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi.
“Freaky!” or “Obsessed”?
Senhit’s fate is in your hands! For this participation, San Marino has decided to let the fans choose the song that she singer will perform in Rotterdam.
It’s up to you to decide between “Freaky!” and “Obsessed”, two tracks that reflect the modern style of the singer, now devoted to electro-pop.
You’ll have two full days to decide and vote HERE. Polls open on Saturday, March 7 at 09:00 CET and close on Sunday, March 8 at 23:59 CET.
Are you excited to see Senhit back at Eurovision for San Marino? Are you #TeamFreaky or #TeamObsessed? Let us know in the comments below!
[…] Zadik Zadik not too long ago took a visit to London to lastly reveal to the world that she’s the chosen artist of the little Republic, after days of rumours spreading all around […]
Freaky! Freaky! Freaky!
Next year I’d love a San Marino super group or Valentina back
San Marino’s representatives for next years:
2021: Anita and Michele again
2022: Valentina Monetta & Serhat
2023: Miodio feat. Jenifer Brening
2024: Senhit, Valentina & Jessica
2025: Serhat feat. Jimmy Wilson
2026: Senhit & Serhat
I am so down for this.
Now the clues on Instagram make sense: You got the power = you help choose the entry and The last but not the least = they’ll probably be the last country to reveal their entry.
What was the chrysalide business all about, though?
I dunno. Maybe someone just made that up.
San Marino bringing up a preselection about three or four days before the headline. I love them, let’s make them win. Also thrilled to see Senhit coming back.
Let’s hope for more San Marino participations in the future! They deserve the love! Hopefully Andorra joins soon…
Aly Ryan 2021?
Stop trying to make Aly Ryan for San Marino happen. It’s not going to happen.
Omg San Marino is taking Luca Tommassini on the Eurovision stage o_o this alone is more than Italy has ever done at least since our comeback in 2011. I’m officially more excited for this rather than my own country!
Dude sounds incredibly legit. Probably footing the bill for their participation too!
He’s definitely not a mr. Nobody, he’s pretty well known in Italy and has a ton of experience. I have high expectations now, regardless of what the song sounds like
I really like Senhit but the fact that she appears to have bought views on her music videos (1 million views with like 40 comments) is a little questionable. Hopefully this year’s competition gives her the boost she wants?
I have one question : if one day San Marino wins will the contest be held in italy ??? If yes i wish they win soon 😉
No, it’s confirmed that it will be Valentina’s backyard. There’ll be a picnic as well.
Serhat will host.
Now we have Eritrean and Ethiopian (Israel) representatives in the same contest.
Senhit was born in Bologna and Eden was born in Jerusalem.
Dont forget Destiny who’s half-Nigerian 🙂
Don’t forget Benny Cristo – he’s half Angolan
Hope she has a great song
At least she can sing. That’s a good starting point. Impressed by the number of black singers in this year’s competition. It might be a record.
I hope there are gonna be three more from Sweden if you know what I mean 😉
Same here. Three incredible black women of the Swedish variety.
The Mammas have a great song. I think they have a very good chance of winning. I hope Senhit’s songs are great as well. It would be very interesting to see San Marino winning the Eurovision Song Contest! 🙂
Senhit mentioned in another interview how happy she was to be in a contest with other black performers, as she was the only solo performer of color in 2011 (besides members of the groups representing Portugal and the UK). How times change, and for the better!
Wait, that’s a lie – there was also Stella from Norway!
Saying blacks in referring to black people feels racist to me.. Is it just me? Honest question
Do they only have 3 singers in San Marino?
lol, do you even know how small this country is? Senhit isn’t even from San Marino. Valentina Monetta is the only representer of this country, who is originally from San Marino (and maybe Anita Simoncini).
Miodio (or at least the frontman) is also from San Marino.
Mio dio (or at least the lead singer) are also from San Marino.
Indeed, Anita is from Montegiardino (the smallest castello of San Marino).
Michele and Anita are also Sanmarinese from what I can recall. Also IROL aka “Your Favorite Rapper from San Marino” who performed at 1in360.
Apart from that, I don’t know who else could be a future San Marinese entry, maybe the guy from Miodio alone (Nicola Della Valle) or the girl who represented San Marino at JESC 2015 (Kamilla Ismailova). Or who knows, we might even get Miss Monica Fabbri. LOL
Michele Perniola is Italian (from Puglia), no Sammarinese. Anita is.
Welcome back ! This will be good 🙂
Even San Marino won’t give us trash. No troll entries this year. Finally! Good luck.
Wait for Russia… I know it will make a buzz but I sincerely hope Little Big won’t come with a song as stupid as My D*ck Is Big.
I choose to believe that she added an ‘h’ to her name as a tribute to Serhat.
Actually, Senhit is how her real name is spelled. She’s being using it for quite some years now.
So that mediocre Cleopatra song was for Azerbaijan?
It was. I don’t think it was chosen though. I heard they went with a ballad called Scars.
Where did you hear Cleopatra? I’m curious now.
Really?!?!
Senit’s second song choice back in 2011 was much better! It’s a shame the jury opted for “Stand by”.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BAe7U32Z6qI
so tired of the same faces from san-marino, i can’t believe that nno one from sanremo didnt want to compete
Just watching James Newman perform live on the BBC Iplayer.
He’s actually a really good singer. Just worried about how relaxed everything sounds.
What has that got to do with Senhit?
Nothing. Wiwibloggs just hadn’t wrote an article about it yet so I thought I’d share the information!
It seems like San Marino ALWAYS choose artists that have a lot if money so they can pay for all of the expenses. Why dont they choose new ones? Dont they have new talent in San Marino?
Mate, there’s only 8 people who live there
I’m sure not all of them are singers! 🙂
Well, they have more cars than people there…
First Senit, then Serhat, then Senhit 😀 Excited for the songs!
She looks amazing , off to check out her songs
And then Serhit 🙂
REALLY hope she can get her comeback story just as Serhat did and qualify this time!
Ok why this comment is downvoted, like for real. It’s just information
Senhit is gorgeous. I’m glad she is back
Eurovision 2021 in Valentina’s backyard!!!
I want the songs!!!!!!!!
Please get this comment removed
Is there really a need to mention her race anyway???
Exactly well said.
She’s so lovely! Sincerely hope they send an amazing song.. Her back catalog is really good.. San Marinooooooo
Its gonna be Malta, its always my country last to release the song
2015?
Love Destiny and so glad she won X factor, hope they give her a decent song. Her voice is incredible.
Will Malta win this year? Or will it be San Marino?
Works for me! Welcome back, Senhit!
You provided the shock by making her skin colour part of your complaint
Dont get why people are excited, I can see another NQ this year for San Marino. Such a great opportunity for them in the weak half of the worse semifinal, what a shame..
You haven’t even heard the songs yet…?
typical wiiwwireader: Negative before the songs. I LOVE that the fans are such a small part of the voting. Would be horrible if only fans voted in ESC.
for once I completely agree with you
and stupid people downvote you for truth, typical
or maybe its a different opinion????? not stupid people??
Don’t worry about any downvotes, JJ, whether they are legitimate or not. Stress is a killer! 😉
Still no songs available? Maybe they expect us to compose those songs, upload and then they vote? haha
Aly Ryan is shook hahah
Wow. Awesome choice. I love Senit!
Clever idea, well done San Marino!
still no song…. san marino are trolling us! but i’m happy it’s senhit
Where can I vote? The website doesn’t show the songs?
Polls open on Saturday, March 7 at 09:00 CET
That answers ”when”, but not ”where”.
It’s over on Senhit’s website.
Voting opens on Saturday
“Polls open on Saturday, March 7 at 09:00 CET”
Again wiwi maniacs dislike everything realistic
It’s called political correctness which will be the reason a Western civilization will fall behind the East unfortunately.
Denmark just announced that there will be no audience tomorrow due to Coruna virus.
Wtf? 🙁
they need to clean up the set as well, its the same since 2016.
The stage is a new one this year I believe.
At the very least, it proves you can hold an event like that without an audience, for all the people freaking out about what Eurovision’s backup plan is.
aww shame wow may best song win. Say yes or Human please
Senit was great in 2011, this is good news.
They never promised any shock tho
They promised early today, at least their head of delegations on twitter, he said that they never send something like that and everyone will be shocked with their representative, but it was a lie
I know that San Marino doesn‘t have a pool of thousand native singers to choose from, but do they always have three names on their shortlist?
I‘m waiting for the moment when Irol gets his chance..
Bravo San Marino, international voting….I hope they are good!
After Czech Republic (My vote – Karelll) and Norway (My votes – Ulrikke and Raylee), I am happy to assist to pick another ESC entry. Also, hyped to have Senhit back in the contest! Good luck, San Marino! 🙂
Its crazy, if Roxorloop with Human will in Danish national selection – there will be 2 acts from 2011 who will be compiting againts each other …Senet 2011 and Roxor was a part of Belgium 2011 …
Will win*
That’s so racist and rude
