Erika Vikman Cicciolina Finland UMK 2020

On the evening of Saturday 22 February, we’ll be looking up north. That’s because Finland will decide who will represent it at Eurovision 2020. Six acts are set to compete in the final of UMK 2020, but only one can win it all. And if it were up to our readers Erika Vikman will take home the trophy with “Cicciolina”.

Erika Vikman is your favourite to win UMK 2020

Following the reveal of all six entries, we asked you to start voting for your favourite to win.

After counting 3,382 votes, we can reveal that you chose Erika Vikman with “Cicciolina”. The song earned a total of 1,639 votes or 48.46% of all votes cast.

Writing in the Wiwi Jury, Robyn says:

“There’s a lot to like about the song. Musically it draws influences from both classical music and Scandi schlager delights. Lyrically, it’s a song of defiance, of a woman who isn’t afraid to get what she wants, even when society is telling her to keep her mouth shut and her legs crossed. In a strange way, it’s a counterpart of “Proud”, with Erika asserting “When you want something, you’ve got to say it out loud”. Well, I say that I want this to go to Rotterdam!”

Coming in in second place is Catharina Zühlke. “Eternity” collected 1,034 votes, or 30.57% of all votes cast.

After that a huge gap opens up. Some distance behind is Aksel Kankaanranta with “Looking Back”. His track gathered 203 votes, which equals 6.00% of all votes cast.

Tika, F3M and Sansa bring up the rear with their entries “I Let My Heart Break”, “Bananas” and “Lover View”. Tika collected 197 votes (5.82%), F3M’s “Bananas” is at 179 votes equalling 5.29%, and finally “Lover View” got 130 votes resulting in 3.84% of all votes cast.

Poll results: Who should win Finland’s UMK 2020?

  1. Erika Vikman – “Cicciolina” 48.46% (1,639 votes)
  2. Catharina Zühlke – “Eternity” 30.57% (1,034 votes)
  3. Aksel Kankaanranta – “Looking Back” 6% (203 votes)
  4. Tika – “I Let My Heart Break” 5.82% (197 votes)
  5. F3M – “Bananas” 5.29% (179 votes)
  6. Sansa – “Lover View” 3.84% (130 votes)Total Votes: 3,382

Why she lost??? This is the very best song ever! I don’t understand why Finland will send Aksel. Erika Vikman is the best candidate for Finland in this year. Sorry Finland, without this song you will never will to the Eurovision Finals. Sad reality… “You had the chance to stand out this year, but you chose to send a mediocre ballad which will strand in the semi.” “The juries are disgusting and should be banned forever, Finalnd could have done so well with this and they chose a mediocre mid tempo that won’t stand out it will stay in the… Read more »

I know Cicciolina has the most views out of all the Finnish national file entries, but that doesn’t always mean that it will actually represent Finland At Eurovision. Remember Albania and Iceland?

YAY! AKSEL WON! Eurovision is alive again! More real music, less cliche and kitsch. Bravo! Absolute favorite so far! Seems like WiwiBloggs became a forum for little divas, no post I came across was without them hating everything that’s not “glitter”.

I agree so much. Cicciolina was amazing but Aksel is good too.

Look, I’m usually against having “bangers” for the sake of being bangers. But “Cicciolina” is so self-aware in its kitsch and retro sound (if you know anything about the actual Cicciolina, it’s pretty much a homage) and with the songs currently selected, I feel that for once a song like that was sorely needed this year.

Nothing against this guy, but I find his song unimpressive in every possible way.

Cicciolina fan here. I love “glitter.” But I also love heartfelt, moving songs. And Aksel ain’t it, sis.

I wish him luck in Rotterdam, but he faces a major challenge based on the results of that poll above. If 6% of fans think you’re best at UMK, you can be certainly it’ll be far less at Eurovision. I suspect there’ll be a lot of “looking back” on May 15, but mostly for the folks of YLE.

Just sad. She being the favorite probably hurt her. I guess people were too convinced she’d win anyway to vote. No other way to explain this close televote result.
This year needed a song like Cicciolina badly.

JURIES STRIPPED US FROM CICCIOLINA

Erika Vikman 99 from Televote, Aksel 94 from Televote.

OH also, Juries gave F3M 60+ points yet the Televote only gave them 20. Juries being out of touch as per usual. I’m sorry but it has to be said.

Yeah, the jury really penalized Erika. Its quite unfortunate. Aksel has a great voice and I wish him all the best, but (and as cliche as this sounds) there are SO many ballads in eurovision this year, I think Erika’s song would have been a better choice. Ah well, good luck to Aksel!

I’ve just listened to all the finalists of the UMK 2020 for the first time and I really don’t get the hype over “Cicciolina”. It’s probably hyped mostly because the song is in Finnish. I don’t mind variety of languages but the song has to be good or outstanding to justify me listening some Swahili or Ukrainian. Plus, I find the sounds of 90′ very annoying and I dont’ like it. Though I’m sure the public would love it. Remember a Moldovan entry Doredos in 2018? They came 10th. My favourite to win probably would be either Tika with “I… Read more »

Why is she mispronouncing Cicciolina? It’s chee-cho-lee-nah, not chee-chee-oh-lee-nah.

Because that’s how a Finn would pronounce it if they did not know how to properly say it. It makes it more Finnish and if I don’t remember wrong, Erika also said that chee-chee-oh-lee-nah fits better with the flow/rhythm of the song (if that makes any sense xD).

It is good that the song is in finnish. Then nobody will understand the sex-lyrics. And it’s also so weird to sing about a pormstar. This is a family show. But luckily the live show isn’t very sexy. There’s just Erika and two bears. Belarus had a wolf on stage in 2015 or 16.

Entries like ciciolina are desperately needed in the snoozefest that eurovision is in danger to become.

Ok I do get the buzz that Cicciolina gets. I don’t understand how that would apply in the contest since the lyrics are in Finnish and nobody would understand these novelty entry!

I’d say that the title speaks for itself. The live performance should also make it clear that the song’s about sexual freedom and self-acceptance.

The bears are there because Cicciolina had this trademark bear she used to carry around. Her bear is also referenced in the song’s lyrics.

I want to see cioccolina in ESC. The other songs are all good to be fair but we don’t have anything like Erika’s song. I’m getting ABBA vibes, it’s a great throwback and would be a great addition to the Eurovision show.

Honestly, I could see William, Laura Poldvere, Poli Genova and Lucia Perez going for Cicciolina. I just hope they don’t completely overturn the will of the people. I could see Aksel or Zuhlke winning as a second option to both if the jury decides to undermine Erika. I am still hoping we will be hearing the beloved schlager in Rotterdam.
