Last week he reunited with Greek songwriter and producer Dimitris Kontopoulos to record an online acoustic of their Eurovision collaboration “Scream”. And now, in another #Qsession led by the Greek composer, Sergey Lazarev has performed their other Eurovision hit “You Are The Only One”.
But Sergey — who always likes to take things to the next level — did so with the help of another one of Dimitris’ many collaborators: Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou!
Helena was clearly happy to see them. She starts the video by saying: “Hey guys how are you doing? I’ve missed your beautiful faces so much!” Before they get going, Helena and Sergey punctuate things with an affirmative “Let’s do this!”
Sergey opens the acoustic solo before Helena joins him to create some gorgeous harmonies. With Dimitris playing the keyboard, this takes on a symphonic feel — a far cry from the electronic fantasy of the original.
Sergey was clearly feeling Helena’s vocals. At one point he shouts, “Wow! Cool!” Later the pair alternate the various parts of the chorus before enjoying a bit of Eurovision word play. Sergey sings “You’re my only one” to which Helena responds, “You’re my number one” — a reference to her Eurovision 2005 winning song.
Sergey and Helena have a long history.
In June 2016 the duo came together to steal the show at the MAD VMAs in Athens, performing Sergey’s Eurovision number to rapturous applause. Helena nailed the pop princess look, slipping into a black playsuit with plunging neckline and a glittering translucent cape. Sergey kept it simple in an all-black number.
The performance began with Sergey standing centre stage in front of a mass of people covered by a large plastic bag.
But amid all those bodies the Eurovision 2016 singer still knew who his lady was, as Helena stood to his right looking absolutely fabulous.
While Sergey handled the song’s opening, Helena took the first chorus and second verse, running her perfectly manicured hands down his top.
