They’re the pop-punk rave band that were set to represent Russia at Eurovision 2020 with the song “Uno”. But, although Little Big won’t get the chance to compete at the contest this year, the popular group are still continuing their musical journey. Little Big have now dropped the new single “Hypnodancer”.
Little Big deliver once again with “Hypnodancer”
As we’ve come to expect from Little Big, “Hypnodancer” is a fun upbeat track that will get your foot tapping along from the very first second that it starts playing.
The song utilises a mixture of electronic and percussion beats. These come together to create an insanely catchy hook that will easily get stuck in the listener’s head – all the ingredients for what you might call a true bop.
For this song, Sonya Tayurskaya takes lead vocals during the verses. The Russian star sings about trying to find her way in the world whatever it takes: “I just tried to find my way / Through whatever, come what may / I will do it anyway”.
Front-man Ilia Prusikin then takes over for the chorus, delivering the “Hypnodancer” hook.
As always, the music video sees Little Big take the lyrics and twist them into the realm of comedy and parody. Filmed in Saint Petersburg before the COVID-19 pandemic, the band’s other members, Anton Lissov and Sergey Makarov, also make appearances.
Little Big – “Hypnodancer”
In the video, which has racked up seven million views in its first 24 hours alone, Little Big portray a set of criminals who go around stealing money from various casinos. They utilise Prusikin’s hypnotic dance moves to distract the other casino players before sliding away with their cash.
In a fun Easter egg related to their Eurovision entry, the cards being used during each casino game are none other than Uno cards.
Unfortunately for the group, when they reach the third casino they run into another duo who are attempting to perform the same robbery. These roles are played by Yuri Muzychenko and Florida Chanturia, who are vocalists from fellow Russian groups The Hatters and Leningrad respectively. Both artists also feature in the MV for “Uno” and were set to accompany Little Big on stage at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam.
In a world that is naturally going through a rough time amidst the current coronavirus pandemic, “Hypnodancer” is a great way to brighten up your day.
Little Big’s music has always been about putting smiles on people’s faces and letting them dance around for a brief moment. This latest song certainly succeeds in that and is why many will hope the group get another opportunity to represent Russia at Eurovision in the future.
At the present time, neither Russian broadcaster has publicly confirmed their intention to participate at Eurovision 2021, or which artist they might select if they do. Though, Ilia Prusikin has stated that he would very much be up for competing at the contest with the group.
However, regardless of whether we see Little Big at Eurovision or not, there’s no doubt “Hypnodancer” will be on repeat in many music playlists for months to come.
Lyrics: Little Big – “Hypnodancer”
I don’t want to hear you say
I will go another way
Should I go or should I stay
If I have to go away
Least we’ll go another way
Cannot let you slip away
Go hypnodancer (x2)
I just tried to find my way
Through whatever, come what may
I will do it anyway
It’s just little game we play
It feels good to get away
There is nothing else to say
Go hypnodancer (x2)
