Life is music and Samanta Tīna continues to be a composer. The Latvian star has released her new single “I Got The Power”, co-written with Eurovision 2015 singer Aminata Savadogo. And with it, Samanta Tīna continues her message of strength and empowerment for woman.

The song’s video begins with some statistics showing that many women don’t consider themselves beautiful, don’t feel represented by everyday images and feel under pressure to reach unrealistic beauty standards. But with her new song, Samanta Tīna is hoping to smash some stereotypes and offer empowerment.

Like her Eurovision 2020 song “Still Breathing” — which examined the pressure that working women face — “I Got The Power” also tackles a strong feminist topic. Samanta starts by asserting, “Don’t tell me how I should look or what I should wear / I set my trends on my own, don’t need you there”.

Samanta Tina – “I Got The Power”

Samanta is singing from experience. She is an artist who has made a name for herself with her bold and quirky looks at Latvia’s national final — including her fringe-trimmed “Still Breathing” bodysuit.

Angry at the impossible standards that women continue to face, Samanta asserts,  “F*** all your stereotypes / Every woman is a fashion model”.

The music video plays to this theme. It takes place at a tennis match, with Samanta Tīna taking the part of the umpire. Seated in her tall chair, she oversees a match between two blonde woman — one slim and busty, the other plus-sized and flexible.

Just like in her “Still Breathing” performance, Samanta delivers some of her unique dance moves, this time looking dapper in her umpire’s suit.

All up, both the song and the music video deliver a quirky yet cool celebration of everyday female beauty, a lesson in empowerment. If Samanta can do her dancing in a suit on a tennis court, ain’t nothing gonna hold you back!

The music is written by Samanta and Latvian beatmaker NiklāvZ. It brings a strong electronic sound, suggesting the direction that Samanta may continue with for her Eurovision 2021 entry.

Samanta Tīna “I Got The Power” lyrics

Don’t tell me how I should look
Or what I should wear
I set my trends on my own
Don’t need you there

You’re criticising my size
But don’t bother
F*** all your stereotypes
Every woman is a fashion model

I love that face I see in the mirror
No lies, no fakes, think of something bigger
I decide what is right, my rules, my life
And I’m gonna stay that way, baby if you’re with me say…

Bomb bomb
Say I’ve got the power
I got the power

Since I was young I was proud of who I am
I walk the streets through the crowd like a goddess

I’m sure that I should live my life as I like it
F*** all your stereotypes
Every woman is a fashion model

I love that face I see in the mirror
No lies, no fakes, think of something bigger
I decide what is right, my rules, my life
And I’m gonna stay that way, baby if you’re with me say…

Bomb bomb
Say I got the power
I got the power

I got the power
You got the power
Show me what you’ve got
Cos you’ve got the power
I got the power
You got the power
Show me what you’ve got
Cos you’ve got the power

I love that face I see in the mirror
(I got the power)
I decide what is right, my rules, my life
And I’m gonna stay that way, baby if you’re with me say…

Bomb bomb
Say I got the power
I got the power
Say I got the, I got the, I got the power
I got the power

I prefer “Still breathing” even if both songs are in the same style. I hope she’ll stay in the same register but with something that can appel a wider public. Personnally I love “Still breathing” (it’s my #8) but I know that if it had qualified (which I think it would’ve), it would’ve been bottom 5 in the grand final.

It’s obvious she has found the style she’s comfortable with! I expect a lot from her next year!!

As for the song, it’s a typical “after ESC” song. We’ve seen this many times. I’m rlly proud to see Samanta and Aminata continued their collaboration!!

She should, and most likely will, stay true to this type of message and this style for her 2021 song. I’m looking forward to it, and I hope it will lead to Latvia’s first qualification since Justs.
