Senhit Releases New Single "Breathe"

She’s the Italian superstar who likes to get “Freaky!” and was due to represent San Marino at Eurovision 2020. Now, after weeks of teasing on social media, Senhit has finally dropped a brand new uplifting anthem. “Breathe” is available to stream everywhere now!

“Breathe” is a song that reminds us to take a breath and push through difficult times. The star from Bologna told fans about the sentiment behind her latest composition in a post on Twitter: “It means so much to me and I hope it will be the same for you. We need to go ahead. I’m sure this time will make us breathe again to make our lives brighter.”

The song is a mid-tempo trance-pop track with a nostalgic disco vibe. “Breathe” starts off slow, with some ominous sounding chords beneath Senhit’s whispery vocals. The chorus then introduces a thumping beat and a swinging bassline that continues throughout, driving the track forward.

The writing team behind “Breathe” consists of Gianluigi Fazio, Amanda Thomsen and Mads Løkkegaard. Fazio previously helped write “Freaky!”, Senhit’s Eurovision 2020 song, which would have represented San Marino in Rotterdam. Løkkegaard also has some Eurovision experience, having written songs for Danish national selection show, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.

Senhit – “Breathe”

Senhit at Eurovision

Senhit originally represented San Marino at Eurovision 2011 in Düsseldorf with “Stand By”. The song failed to qualify from the first semi-final, scoring just 34 points and putting San Marino in 16th place.

The Italian singer was later internally selected to represent San Marino for a second time at Eurovision 2020. The singer asked fans to choose between two songs — “Obsessed” and “Freaky!” — in an online digital battle. The funky and playful number “Freaky!” emerged as the winner.

It has been announced that Senhit will return to represent San Marino once again at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam. She will join 17 other artists who are confirmed to be returning next year after Eurovision 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I think it was foolish to release this single now. She should have waited until September 1st passes so it might be eligible for Eurovision 2021.
