The hype has been building and the end result has not disappointed. Finland’s Eurovision queen Saara Aalto and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Baga Chipz have released their collaboration, the single “When the Sun Goes Down”. As well as being highly danceable, the song also delivers a message of empowerment for anyone thinking of going home with the wrong guy.

The LGBTQ+ icons dropped their single on Friday and are already serving some dancefloor beats. The single is Saara’s first single since her Christmas 2019 Kylie Minoque-penned track “Every Christmas Day”. While Baga has paired up with Finland’s finest for her first release since the Drag Race hit “Break Up (Bye Bye)”.

The lyrics to the song have a powerful message, with Saara and Baga making it clear they’re not wanting a lover who’ll be gone by the morning. Saara makes it clear that even though she doesn’t want to be alone, she also doesn’t want to be with someone who is going to waste her time.

In the chorus, Saara asks, So will you love me in the morning? / Will you love me when the sun goes down?”

Baga Chipz tackles the second verse, then breaks out a rap — and she packed a lot in. In a reference to neither Baga nor Saara winning their respective series of Drag Race UK and The X Factor UK, Baga wonders, “maybe this time we’ll win”

The song’s press release describes the duo as “Europe’s answer to Gaga & Ariana” Baga’s rap makes a reference to “Iconic duo, much better than “Rain” — likely a reference to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain On Me”.

The end result is a dancefloor classic with a strong message.

“When the Sun Goes Down” lyrics – Saara Aalto x Baga Chipz

I don’t wanna be alone, I don’t wanna be alone tonight
But I’d rather be alone, if you ain’t in my zone it’s fine
No more wasting my time, now I’m focusing my mind alright
Hear the ring on my phone, leave a message at the tone, bye-bye

‘Cause I’ve seen way too many women
That go for the wrong type of guys
They only call them when the evening comes
Their true colours come out in the light

So will you love me in the morning?
Will you love me when the sun goes down?
Will you touch me in a right way?
Will you be there, will you stick around?
‘Cause I don’t wanna get involved with
If you’re only gonna run and hide
Will you love me on my worst days?
Love me, baby, when the sun goes down

Will you love me in the morning?
As long as, baby, when the sun goes down
Will you love me in the morning?
As long as, baby, when the sun goes down

(And here I go)

Never could lead me on, never could lead me on, alright
No more lies, way too strong, yeah I know my right from wrong, alright
And I know what I want, yeah, I got it on my own, alright
‘Cause I’m the type of girl you can drag through hell and I’ll still come out the right side

Hey Baga Girls, look at me
How’d you like my battered sausage chippy tea?
I’m serving up a dish, Saara serving Finn
Chanelling Liza, maybe this time we’ll win
Iconic duo, much better than “Rain”
On me (what!) I’ll spray the champagne
Miss Saara Aalto and Baga Chipz
All you ladies do it like this

‘Cause I’ve seen way too many women
That go for the wrong type of guys
They only call them when the evening comes
Their true colours come out in the light

So will you love me in the morning?
Will you love me when the sun goes down?
Will you touch me in the right way?
Will you be there, will you stick around?
‘Cause I don’t wanna get involved with
If you’re only gonna run and hide
Will you love me on my worst days?
Love me, baby, when the sun goes down

Will you love me in the morning?
As long as, baby, when the sun goes down
Will you love me in the morning?
As long as, baby, when the sun goes down

Baga always tries to get battered sausage in there when she’s talking about having a chippy tea! I love the double entendre.

Love love love this song. If only people could go out to the bars and clubs and dance to this, it would be a brilliant banger!
