Eurovision 2021: “This is not the new logo” – Sietse Bakker explains THAT swan logo

  • Posted on September 20, 2020September 20, 2020
  • byRobyn Gallagher

Earlier this month, eagle-eyed fans spotted a mysterious logo in a photo taken in the Eurovision 2021 production office. It appeared to show a Eurovision-themed swan logo, leading fans to wonder if this was a leak of a new logo for Eurovision 2021. Eurovision 2021 Executive Producer Sietse Bakker earlier confirmed the logo wasn’t for 2021, but now he has told us the story behind the swan logo.

The swan logo was first seen in an Instagram photo uploaded by Eurovision 2021 Head of Communications Babet Verstappen, showing her and her colleague, Eurovision Branding and Design Manager Ben Prins. The pair were celebrating the opening of the Eurovision 2021 production office.

But there on a table in the foreground was a high-quality poster showing a never-seen-before Eurovision logo featuring a stylised swan design.

Any hopes of a leaked new logo for 2021 were soon crushed when Executive Producer Sietse Bakker confirmed the photo was NOT the Eurovision 2021 logo.

But we were still eager to find out the story behind the design, so wiwiblogger Esma Jansen asked Bakker about the mysterious swan.

The story behind the Eurovision swan logo

Simply, it was a logo submission from 2020.

Bakker explained: “We know that you guys out there are very creative. There’s a lot of people sending in ideas for branding, for visuals for the Eurovision Song Contest. This was one of the things that we received last year.”

The production team were so impressed by the poster that they decided to keep it in the office. They’d become so used to having it around that they hadn’t even realised it was in the photo.

Bakker went on to say, “It was just laying there, so no one really noticed it. We were slightly surprised by the amount of drama, but we had a good laugh about it.”

In the same interview, Bakker also talked about what will be happening with the Eurovision 2021 logo. The logo intended for Eurovision 2020 will be updated to reflect the flag colours of the participating countries of 2021. The logo will also be revamped to give a distinct look for 2021.

We don’t know exactly what the Eurovision 2021 logo will look like, but one thing is for sure — it won’t include a swan!

What do you think? Do you like the swan logo design? Would you like to see it used for Eurovision 2021? Tell us your thoughts below!
