MTV EMA 2020 Nominations

It’s one of the biggest award shows on the planet. And this afternoon organisers published the full list of nominees for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2020. International superstar Lady Gaga leads the pack with seven nominations.

But in between other global names like Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish, there’s plenty of Eurovision interest.

2020 MTV EMA Nominations

As ever, the EMAs are mostly decided by audience vote, and each region also gets to vote for its best local act. These categories usually attract a few nominations of recent Eurovision and national final acts, with Mahmood, Maruv and Roksana Węgiel taking home gongs in 2019.

Let’s take a look at the Eurovision and national final acts nominated for the 2020 ceremony.

Eurovision nominees at MTV EMAs 2019

Best Hungarian Act

  • ByeAlex

Best Italian Act

  • Diodato (Eurovision 2020)
  • Elettra Lamborghini (Sanremo 2020)
  • Levante (Sanremo 2020)
  • Irama (Sanremo 2016 and 2019)

Best Polish Act

  • Margaret (Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 and Melodifestivalen 2018 and 2019)

Best Portuguese Act

  • Fernando Daniel (Festival da Canção 2017)
  • Diogo Piçarra (Festival da Canção 2018)
  • Dino D’Santiago (Festival da Canção 2020 composer and Eurovision 2018 interval act)

Best Spanish Act

  • Aitana (Operación Triunfo 2017-18)

Voting for all the above categories and more is now open at MTVEMA.com. The awards ceremony itself will take place on Sunday 8 November. As with August’s MTV VMAs, it will be a largely virtual event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
