In 2007, she won the talent show Starmania and went on to represent Austria at Eurovision 2011. Now, almost a decade on, Nadine Beiler has another achievement under her belt. Last night she won The Masked Singer Austria, where she was unmasked as the Yeti.
It’s been a short six-week series, but in that time, Nadine has made quite an impression as the cute and furry Yeti.
After a shaky start in the first week with her cover of Reamonn’s “Supergirl”, Nadine went on to win every one of her weekly duels. She covered Duffy’s “Mercy”, The Zutons’ “Valerie”, Sia’s “Elastic Heart” and also paid tribute to Austria’s Eurovision queen Conchita Wurst, with a performance of “Rise Like a Phoenix”.
Despite all the different songs, one thing remained the same. Nadine’s powerful R&B vocals stood out and made her a frontrunner early on.
In this week’s grand final, the Yeti performed Radiohead’s “Creep”, then in the superfinal she reprised “Rise Like a Phoenix”. It was enough to impress the voting audience, who crowned the Yeti the inaugural winner of The Masked Singer Austria.
The Yeti received her trophy and then removed her furry mask and revealed to the audience that she was Nadine.
Nadine’s Yeti costume weighed six kilograms but was made using lightweight techniques to keep the weight down. The Yeti fur was made of six different types of synthetic fur as well as hundreds of flakes of snow glitter. Adding a glamorous touch, Svarovski crystals were used to add sparkle to the Yeti’s eyes.
The first episode of The Masked Singer Austria debuted in March. However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, production was put on hold for six months. The series resumed in mid-September and ran uninterrupted for the rest of the series.
Austria’s Eurovision stars on The Masked Singer
Nadine Beiler represented Austria at Eurovision 2011. Her song “The Secret is Love” placed 18th in the grand final, but impressed juries who ranked her fifth overall.
And Nadine isn’t the only Austrian Eurovision star to feature on The Masked Singer Austria. Earlier in the series, Trackshittaz rapper Lukas Plöchl was revealed to be the Climate Hero. While he’s known for rap, Lukas showed off a different side with heartfelt vocal performances.
Austria’s Eurovision 2017 singer Nathan Trent has a regular place on the judges’ panel. He was joined in week four by guest judge and Eurovision 2018 star Cesár Sampson. As well, the show is hosted by one of the glamorous hosts of Eurovision 2015, Arabella Kiesbauer.
What do you think? Should Nadine Beiler return to Eurovision? Who else would you like to hear competing on The Masked Singer? Tell us your thought below!
In Masked Singer Bulgaria news, she may have lost out to her for the ticket to Eurovision 2011 but Milena Slavova has outlasted Poli Genova on the show! Well done to the Book!
Eurovision 1978 winner Izhar Cohen has been eliminated and revealed as the bull on The Masked Singer Israel :3
Actually, I was not even close to knowing it’s him xD
Nadine was fantastic in 2011! Should have ended up higher on the scoreboard 🙂
I figured one of the Israeli Eurovision veterans was going to show up on their Masked Singer. I could see multiple ones popping up – they fit the general “famous but not too famous” vibe of most Masked Singer contestants.
Her performance in ESC 2011 has always been a hidden gem.
What a coincidence
Last night i rewatched esc 2011 and enjoyed her performance so much!
That voice is wow!
By the way Austrian broadcaster ORF confirmed they will re-start the Austrian Castingshow starmania, which had huge success in the early years of the 2000s. The fourth and last season aired in 2009. The series is known for casting great Austrian singers like Christina Stürmer. The show also showcased the debut of several esc performers: Nadine Beiler, Tom Neuwirth (Conchita), Eric Papilaya and Daniel, who performed for Macedonia in 2015. And the show was hosted by Arabella Kiesbauer (one of the hosts of 2015). This is just my thoughts but I think the show might work somehow as a new… Read more »
Funny how Tom and Nadine competed on Starmania, with Tom becoming the runner-up right behind Nadine, and now she’s covering his song… Life works in mysterious ways, you never know who’s gonna become the star.
And Izhar Cohen was the Bull in the new Israeli Series (and Popcorn had covered Fuego)
There was also Simone Stelzer (Austria 1990), who finished runner-up as the Lipizzaner.
12 points from Italy!
Simone (ESC 1990) came 2nd!!!
