He took home bronze for Austria at Eurovision 2018. Now, Cesár Sampson can add another skill to his résumé — ballroom dancing! The “Nobody But You” singer-songwriter and his partner Conny Kreuter have been named runners-up on Dancing Stars the Austrian version of Dancing With The Stars.

Cesar Sampson comes second on Dancing With The Stars

Cesár joined the show’s lineup in September. Week after week, he and Conny proved themselves as fan-favourites, impressing judges and viewers enough to get all the way to the final. Competing alongside them in the final were Olympic skier Michi Kirchgasser with her partner Vadim Garbuzov, and television presenter Silvia Schneider with her partner Danilo Campisi.

Cesár and Conny performed three dances during the finale. First, a fiery and passionate salsa set to Enrique Iglesias’ dancefloor classic “Bailamos”. Fuego!

Then, the couple moved viewers with an emotional contemporary interpretive dance number set to Adele’s tearjerker ballad “When We Were Young”.

Silvia and Danilo were eliminated in third place, leaving Cesár and Conny battling against Michi and Vadim to become the next Dancing Stars champion.

Finally, the show dance. This is where the couples are given free rein to perform in whichever style they see fit. In other words, it’s a final showcase to tell the audience: “This is why I should win!”. Our Eurovision favourite treated viewers to stunt-filled performance set to a medley of songs from Te Greatest Showman.” You can watch Cesár and Conny’s performance below.

Ultimately, it was Michi and Vadim who took home the trophy, after an emotional show dance performance set to Queen’s anthemic “The Show Must Go On.”

However, César’s Dancing Stars links extend far beyond his stint as a competitor on the show. Before he became the Eurovision 2018 legend, he featured as a backing singer on Dancing Stars. Talk about a full-circle moment!

Cesár Sampson at Eurovision

Austrian broadcasters ORF internally selected Cesár Sampson to represent Austria at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal. His song “Nobody But You” was also internally selected. Originally, Cesár planned to submit his song to the United Kingdom’s national selection process Eurovision: You Decide.

Austria qualified from its semi-final in fourth place. In the final, Cesár went on to win the jury vote, but came 13th in the public televote. Eventually, “Nobody But You” placed third overall with 342 points behind only Israel and Cyprus

He was truly amazing. I was watching the show every week (i’m from Austria) and just judging from their dancing abilities, among the final 2, they should’ve won.
