Israel’s long-awaited national selection has finally started. On Wednesday, KAN released demo versions of the nine songs that will battle to represent Israel at Eurovision 2021. Now new information is coming out thick and fast — including the full dates of the different rounds. The Israeli song for Eurovision 2021 will be chosen on January 25th.

Israel will choose Eden Alene’s song on 25 January

According to Israeli web site EuroMix, we will know Eden Alene’s song for Eurovision on the last Thursday in January. The date of the final is almost two months away, but it’s unusually early for Israel. Ahead of Eurovision 2020, Eden’s song wasn’t chosen until March 3.

The voting for the semi-final round, which consists of nine songs, has already started and runs until midnight Israel time on 14 December. The final will consist of three songs. The public will select two of them, while the other will be a wildcard chosen by the KAN committee.

At that point Eden will take over vocal control and begin working on the three songs for the final. Eden will perform them live on stage and be filmed. Voters will then vote for their favourite based on her pre-recorded performances. Voting for the final will run from 18-24 January. KAN will also air Eden’s pre-recorded performances during the results show on 25 January.

The songwriters of Eden’s potential songs remain unknown to help preserve the fairness of the contest. But we know several names of songwriters who have submitted. Amongst them are Stav Beger, who co-wrote “Toy”, the “Rakata” songwriters, and R&B singer Ester Rada.

Eden’s nine songs

You can listen to Eden’s semi-final songs now! Note that Eden does not sing in any of the demos.

Which songs do you think will make the cut? Which songs are likely to improve with the live performance? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

they’re still in time to admit these songs aren’t good enough for a singer like eden alene and internally select talented songwriters to come up with a worthy song of the goddess she is

Except these are not songs, only demos/sketches.

I think it was a mistake releasing demos to the public. fans clearly want some fake drama to get excited about.

I invite everyone to listen to the demo of toy and tell me that as a demo, it can win Eurovision

They will probably let their pride get in the way of reevaluating the situation, so it’s really up to Eden’s management and label to rock the boat if they believe the three selected demos pose some kind of a liability which could significantly undermine her chances, risk her reputation and even harm her career. The public’s choice has to be respected, but there will probably be an understanding that the demos are only a suggestion and that they’ll be largely transformed, remastered and suit Eden’s personality, voice and artistic merit. Whether that’s good enough or not for reaching the final… Read more »

I just realized that whoever wrote “shoulders” is hoping to make a shampoo ad in the Eurovision. “Eden – Shoulders.”
There’s no way that wasn’t intentional!

I think it was a mistake to release the demos to the public, in this era it’s important to generate positive buzz – which worked well in Israel’s favor in 2018. Releasing 9 demos sung by other singers is half-assed and dd does the exact opposite. It could be that after the three songs are picked and we hear them in their final form sung by Eden we’ll realize they’re the best thing since Bohemian Rhapsody, but first impressions are important and these are underwhelming. They should have either release nine finalized and polished tracks sung by Eden, or if… Read more »

99% of the european voting audience will not listen to them. But the bigger issue is that we can get a good idea of these songs and they are so generic and bland. 3 of the songs last year were better than any of the songs this year.

Kan should have handled the selection a lot better because it found itself caving in from its original plan of 16 songs and 2 televised semi finals to an online based selection with less than 10 songs. The fact that it couldn’t even meet the 10 songs bar is all you need to know about the substandard nature of the submissions. It’s too late in the game to scrap the ongoing online vote or introduce changes to the rules. It’s ironic because the rules were already reinvented when it suited the broadcaster, but at this point you have to assume… Read more »

Already said it, but “Ue La La” sounds very cheap to me. I prefer “Shoulders”, a revamp could make it the next “Roots”.

Ue La La does not showcase her voice. It’s unfortunate these songs are not on par with last year.

I’m still trying to listen to 3 of them on their full versions, but I’m disappointed at how most of them don’t play with Eden’s strenghts like 2020’s options. They’re songs that could be given to any young female performer, while “Feker Libi”, “Roots” and “Rakata” all seemed tailored down to fit her multicultural background. Also, many lyrics suffer from I would call the “boomer trying to guess what a teenager would say syndrome”. That said, I think “Shoulders” is the best option here. The bridge seems written for her and its chorus may inspire good choreography. The lyrics could… Read more »

I think the shoulders demo is good, with a revamp it could be similar to Roots and potentially win the national final

It’s okay for people from outside Israel to listen to the songs, but please don’t vote through VPNs. Let the Israeli people decide for themselves, in the spirit of the rules.

So the relative timeline for entry reveals so far:
December: Albania
January: France, Israel
February: Croatia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway
March: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Portugal, Sweden

By the way, does someone know how to listen to Eden’s songs without geoblocking? I haven’t listened to any single one yet!

I managed to listen to them this morning on the official FB page of Tv broadcaster KAN without being geoblocked.

Do you know the link, Colin? I’ve listened to 6 of the songs so far. But I’m almost giving up of the other 3 (“La La Love”, “Rise Up Today” and “Spilling Magic”).

Searching and searching… and I cannot find the same songs on the exact same platform. It’s really convoluted in a way it’s arranged. Even when translated. A bit frustrating… But here’s KAN’s official page, so you try, if you can… 🙁

So I was in the right place, but only found the same link for the KAN’s site. It was there that I’ve listened to the 6 songs (without a VPN, by the way, so I guess the problem isn’t the geoblock). Though the player doesn’t even start loading most of the times. And the same happens in different browsers and devices. It’s frustrating indeed.

It helps, now at least I know how the chorus play on each one of them. 🙂 And unless there’s something much different happening on the verses or bridges, I don’t think those 3 would change my opinion about the selection. I’ll keep trying to listen to all of them though.

I am happy it helped. Also, you could check out reviews of a channel called In Mo’s Library. He talks a bit over them, but they are still playing in the whole aside that. He has 5 songs thus far, with other 4 being covered in upcoming part 2.

That was a great tip, Colin! I finally was able to check all of them now. 🙂 It hasn’t changed my mind, I still think “Shoulders” would be the best fit for Eden. Though “Spilling Magic” is something that has potential.

Thanks, but it’s still blocked. Perhaps not geoblocked, as one of them works, but blocked nonetheless. It’s probably a copyright issue, which I am tired of, since they are usually arbitrary and can change on a whim.

I did. And this time I was able to listen to a new one: “Flying”. But still couldn’t check the other 3 songs. Normally when this happens, I run to Youtube, but KAN is blocking every song there besides “Coming Out”, for copyright reasons.

They’re all on different accounts on YouTube. Just search the song titles and her name and they’ll pop up.

Glad to have songs anticipated earlier in the national final season, that means that from the end of January we will have at least 3 songs (Albania, Israel and France) plus there’s the possibility for Spain’s one too according to their usual plans.

Shoulders and Ue La La are the best, although far worse than Feker Libi, Rakata, Roots.
