Melodifestivalen 2021 Acts _ Performers _ Singers

The Melodifestivalen 2021 rumour mill spun wildly for months. But, as of 3 December, we now know the 28 acts who will compete to represent Sweden at Eurovision in Rotterdam.

The Swedish music extravaganza begins on 6 February. And while we won’t get the songs until just before each semi-final, there’s still plenty of to get excited about.

Melodifestivalen 2021 line-up

The 2021 cast is looking particularly lustrous. That’s because there are five former Melfest winners in the number. Arvingarna,  Eric Saade and Jessica Andersson have all won once while Charlotte Perrelli is a two-time winner. And, of course, we can’t forget the 2020 champs — The Mamas.

And Ashley, Loulou and Dinah won’t be the only 2020 faces looking to make a comeback. Alvaro Estrella, Dotter, Klara Hammarström and Paul Rey will all grace the Mello stage for a second consecutive year.

There are plenty of returnees from earlier years too. Anton Ewald, Danny Saucedo and Elisa have each competed at least once before. Meanwhile, members of Mustasch and Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos have taken part as individuals. Tess Merkel is also a veteran, albeit as a singer with Alcazar.

And that means that the remaining acts are all debutants. They are Clara Klingenström, Efraim Leo, Emil Assergård, Frida Green, Julia Alfrida, Kadiatou, Lillasyster, Lovad, Nathalie Brydolf, Patrik Jean, Sannex, Tusse and WAHL feat. SAMI.

I’m super excited for Eric Saade and I would to see him back at Eurovisin exactly ten years after Popular. I’m also excited for Anton Ewald as I loved Begging from Melfest 2013. As for who I think will win I think it’ll either be Eric or The Mamas, who I imagine will get a lot of sympathy from the Swedish public but I’m not sure whether their song can once again beat out the rest of the field.

Not sure if sympathy votes counts for winners. Sympathy votes are more for people like Sanna Nielsen who competed 7 times without winning until she won. Mamas are winners, a cancelled contest I don¨t think is enough to vote for sympathy.

I don’t have any favorites so far, but TBH I’m always intrigued with the P4 Nasta ticket winners and whether they’ll succeed going higher than the second chance round, so Julia Alfrida it is.

They’ve got a few acts here who could deliver something good, but will they? The big acts are mostly going to have slick pop numbers that are going to be “heavily-influenced” by this year’s biggest mainstream pop hits, written by pretty much the same groups of songwriters who always provide the songs.
I’ll end up liking probably 4-5 of the selection but can’t say that an artist reveal can really make me excited in this case.

Dotter, of course. But also Kadiatou, Paul Rey, Eric Saafde and Efraim. I think Efraim especially sounds very intriguing and exciting..

As I’ve been saying for 4 years, I just hope Sweden will send something different than what we’re used to hear. Their songs are always good but it’s “too perfect”, “too clean”. I want something good but random. Something that nobody is expecting to hear and see from Sweden.
Last decade was really glorious for them but it’s time to try something different.

Anton Eric and Efraim are the clear front runners given their previous songs in relation to what Sweden usually sends (especially with cool staging).

I either want The Mamas to do the double or to get an even better song from Dotter. Heck, I’d actually really like Julia Alfrida’s song to be great so she can duck the P4 Nasta curse and make the final! Considering how good P4 Nasta typically is, it’d be nice to get something more alternative in the final.

Danny, Dotter, Mamas, Eric, Anton are the most I looking forward, I really hope they have amazing songs and one of them will win 🙂

Well Dotter, duh. We all want her to win, I hope she has a good banger, but the title “Little Tot” seems like a ballad or some kind of folk-acoustic thing to me. She released a single called Backfire few months ago and it’s amazing! She should have saved that song for Melfest.

she already gave her description of the song on official eurovision side: “The song is quite intense. It’s uptempo and for me it almost feels like a modern lullaby. It has a big chorus that is about telling the young ones not making the same mistakes as we have done when they grow up. The performance is going to be very dynamic. From small to big and from dark to bright” Dotter added.

It’s off-topic but 5 names are announced for Eurovision France 2021 : Philippine, Casanova, LMX, Ali, Barbara Pravi.

Casanova and Philippine are pretty obvious names, Philippine is like the new Florina.
LMX and Ali are no-name apparently. Barbara Pravi composed JESC 2019, JESC 2020 and Angelina’s “Maman me dit” Tiktok hit, as well as “L’un près de l’autre” for Noée (DE2018), definitely a fan of french music and french sounds ! These names are very exciting anyway.

Barbara Pravi def has me excited if her JESC track record is anything to go by. Seeing how well her songs have done the last three years, she could stand a very good chance of bringing France their best result in a while!

It seems like she will go with a french ballad à la “Tous les deux” but we never know. I don’t see her singing a “bop”, anyway.

‘Move’ was my most played song this year, so definitely The Mamas! So happy they’re back!

I really hope the Mama’s will be strong again. Their entry last year was excellent, but some of their material since hasn’t been a good. I really want them to get their chance, they really deserve it

I’m really hoping that Efraim Leo will be a dark horse. This is the reason that I love Melfest and Eurovision -discovering artists that are absolute gems. If his entry is going to be as good as all of the music that he has out right now, then we’re in for a treat!

Naturally, I am more excited about some acts I am already familiar with and like at least some of their work. So, for me, so far – Dotter, The Mamas, Eric Saade, Charlotte Perrelli, Jessica Andersson and Paul Rey. But I am ready to be surprised. 😉

Right now, Danny. I’m fully prepared to let others impress me too, of course.

Dotter is my personal favourite but I’m also looking forward to what Erik, Klara H, Danny, Anton, Jessica, Charlotte and a few others might bring.

I’m especially excited to find out who will be singing in each semi final!
