As Christmas draws nearer, many Eurovision stars are releasing festive music and hosting cyber meets and greets. However, some have been at it longer than others. Icelandic Eurovision star Hera Bjork has been a fixture on the yuletide calendar for several years. Her successful 2000 Christmas album Ilmur af jólum (A Scent of Christmas) and the subsequent 2013 Christmas album Ilmur af jólum II both continue to gain momentum every December.

Hera Bjork isn’t just a Songvakeppnin favourite. During the winter months, she throws live concerts which often feature a number of special musical guests. 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of her annual Christmas show —The Scent Of Christmas. The coronavirus may have put a stop to a physical gathering with a full orchestra at the magnificent Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík. However, she isn’t putting a stop to the festivities. Instead, she’s taking the fun online and opening the party to all her fans from across the continent.

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Hera Bjork explains:

“Because of corona, we couldn’t go ahead as planned with the original schedule. However, I now invite my fans from all over Europe to join me online for a special festive celebration in Icelandic. Although all the songs are in Icelandic, the melodies are beautiful and the setting is cosy. I will be joined by a team of amazing musicians and wonderful backing singers. There is a special duet planned with Margaret Eir which I know will be a crowd pleaser. Also, watch out for my mother Hjordis Gets. This performance marks her 60th anniversary in the music industry and my daughter Thordis Petra who sings will also be joining. I can’t wait to see you all on www.herabjork.com on the 20th of December, and mark this special occasion with you. Lots of love and merry Christmas to you all.”

Be sure to log onto her website, and find out more details. We can’t wait for this gig!
