Stina Talling _Elevate_ Melodi Grand Prix 2021

We met the first four semi-finalists for Melodi Grand Prix 2021 on Monday. And as Saturday’s show looms near, we’ve taken a look at the bookies’ odds for Norway’s Eurovision selection.

And, if the bookmakers are to be believed Stina Talling is the one to beat in semi-final one.

Melodi Grand Prix 2021 Odds: Stina Talling favourite to win semi-one

The “Elevate” songstress is trading on Unibet at odds of 1.90. Were these odds to play out on Saturday, she would win the semi and progress to the 20 February grand final. The remaining three acts would remain in contention for a wildcard slot, along with the eliminated entries from the other four semis.

Stina’s closest competition, at least in the eyes of the bookies, is Jorn. The veteran rocker can be backed at 2.25. Wind trio Blåsemafian are in third with odds of 5.00. Meanwhile, Beady Belle appears to be out of contention. At 13.0, she’s a long way behind the rest.

Melodi Grand Prix 2021 Bookmakers’ Odds — semi-One

  1. Stina Talling 1.90
  2. Jorn 2.25
  3. Blåsemafian 5.0
  4. Beady Belle 13.0

Odds correct as of 14:00 CET 14 January, via Unibet

How the odds work

The decimal odds number represents the amount you win for every krone/euro/dollar bet. The number represents the total payout, rather than the profit. Your stake is already included in the decimal number.

Taking odds of 1.90 as an example, for every €1.00 you bet, you will get back €1.90 if you win. This includes 90 cents profit plus your original one euro bet.

Bookmakers set odds by looking at factors such as prior form, statistics, historical precedents, expert opinion and any number of other elements which could influence the result in question. After this analysis, the bookies will be left with what they deem to be the most accurate possible true odds of any outcome occurring. As these factors are always shifting, the bookies’ odds will remain in flux.

Am I the only one to like the song of Blåsemafian? They are the ones I’m the most excited for in this semi.

Odds for ESC 2021 are launched too. Bulgaria is in the lead followed by Island. I can’t wait to see how all of this will evolve when more songs will be released.
To date, top 10 is quite similar to last year with the exception of Norway and France.

Odds mean little when we have only 1 song, with only two more selections fully disclosed. We can assume that most of those who had the strongest songs of 2020 will continue in that path. But with internal choices and most of national finals still in the shadows, it’s all very speculative. Odds in mid March will be the first indicative ones and even they will likely change till rehearsals.

EDIT: But yeah, having them can be a nice pastime.

Yes totally agree, but this year is special in the sense a lot of the participants are already known, their musical world too, and I think for a lot of people, the tentation of the comparison will be hard to resist. So it seems that for now, they are indeed basing all of their judgements on last year, but I also find interesting to see the two Norway and France here because it can be analysed like a first sign, that these selections are attracting some attention and maybe contain pontential strong and polarizing candidats for the months to come.… Read more »

Apart from the national finals, this is my favourite part of the build up to eurovision, watching the odds moving around as new information and music is drip fed to us, exciting times hehe

I like “Elevate” but it is the kind of song that always struggles to get past a semi-final.

My thoughts exactly. I feel like Jorn is more appealing to the general Norwegian public than most eurovision fans but I could be wrong. For sure Stina has a huge youth following in Norway and her song is decent so I’d expect it to do well.

Bref, agreed on your assessment! 🙂
