Back in March, Roxen was confirmed as getting the return ticket to represent Romania at Eurovision 2021, but in the months since, little has been heard about her Eurovision plans. Until now. In a recent update to her Instagram Stories, Roxen has revealed that she believes she’s found “the perfect song for Eurovision 2021”.
Roxen shared the news with a text post on her Instagram stories. In the post, she wrote:
“I know that I wasn’t that present here on social media in the last couple of weeks… Lately I was completely focused on finding the perfect song for Eurovision 2021 which I believe I did. My team and I put in so much love, effort and hard work into everything we worked on and all that I can say is that I am blessed with the most amazing people ever. Thank you!
“I’m on the way with amazing projects and I can’t wait to show you what I got!! Stay safe, warm hugs and looootssss of kisses. Ly”
While Roxen has been keeping busy over the past year, this is the first update about her plans for Eurovision 2021.
The news suggests that broadcaster TVR is internally selecting Roxen’s song for Eurovision and won’t be using a national final, as it did for her 2020 song selection.
There are no further details of Roxen’s song for Rotterdam or when fans can expect to hear it.
Roxen’s Eurovision 2021 journey
Roxen was internally selected to represent Romania at Eurovision 2020. This followed broadcaster TVR’s decision to drop its usual national final format and partner with Global Records, focusing on one internally selected artist.
TVR held a version of Selecția Națională to select Roxen’s song for Eurovision 2020. She performed five songs, with the jury and viewers both favouring “Alcohol You”.
When Eurovision 2020 was cancelled, TVR was quick to reconfirm Roxen as their act for 2021. At the time, Roxen expressed her gratitude for being reselected, and said: “I can’t wait to get back to work and produce the best song for Eurovision 2021!”
Roxen has had plenty of other recent projects on the go. In June, she debuted as the brand ambassador for a Romanian box hair colour range.
In December, Roxen released her new single “Wonderland”, in collaboration with Eurovision champion Alexander Rybak. The song released was accompanied by a TikTok campaign where fans were asked to reveal “What will you wear to wonderland?”.
Later this month, Roxen will release “Parte din tine”, a collaboration with the Romanian production group Dj Project.
What do you think? What sort of song should Roxen perform in Rotterdam? Should TVR use a national final again to select the song? Tell us your thoughts below!
