Since being confirmed to represent Australia at Eurovision 2021, Montaigne has been sharing the process of selecting her song for Rotterdam. And now it appears she’s found the ideal song.

Montaigne broke the news with a post on her Instagram Stories. In a caption, she wrote “I am on holiday with my wonderful boyfriend and we have confirmed my Eurovision song”.

But that’s all we’re getting. Montaigne hasn’t given any more details of her Eurovision song, including its title, release date, style of music or which songwriters have been involved with its creation.

Montaigne’s Eurovision 2021 journey

Montaigne originally won the 2020 edition of Eurovision: Australia Decides and was due to represent Australia at Eurovision 2020 with “Don’t Break Me”. After Eurovision 2020 was cancelled, broadcaster SBS internally selected Montaigne as their artist for Rotterdam in 2021.

Since then, Montaigne has been searching for the perfect song for her Eurovision 2021 entry.

In August, Montaigne teased a potential Eurovision song with a post on Twitter. She enticingly wrote,  “i reckon i’ve written my eurovision song for next year it’s totally f****d, lets see what mgmt says”

Later in the year, Montaigne mentioned a potential Eurovision song she’d written called “JC Ultra”. Montaigne described the song as being about “a society of aliens that has a major music label as a front for a brainwashing program”. However Montaigne later confirmed that “JC Ultra” would not be her song for Eurovision.

Earlier this month, Montaigne also revealed that she’d been approached by the Grammy Award-winning American songwriter Diane Warren. Montaigne said, “She kind of sent me a song to consider for Eurovision. She was ‘I have this song for you, give it a shot, maybe it’s good for Eurovision’ and it is a hit! The song is immediately recognisable as a hit.”

Montaigne has also been writing songs herself. Talking about one composition, she said, “I have this other song I wrote that I f***ing love, I think it’s so fun. It’s like right up my alley, this style I’ve been trying to achieve for all of this year, basically. So I just have to work on both of them and see which I prefer for Eurovision… and work on other songs as well!”

Earlier this week, Montaigne posted a blurry photo to her Instagram with the caption “getting closer to a eurovision song …..”

But after this eventful journey, it appears that Montaigne has finally settled on the perfect song for her to perform at Eurovision 2021.

What do you think? What sort of song would you like to hear Montaigne perform at Eurovision 2021? Have your say in the comments section below!

Seriously if the song JCUltra was her initial pick, then Australia is in serious trouble this year as I do not have confidence that she will have an original song of her own which is any good. The Diane Warren song sent to her was probably arranged by SBS as they were worried Montaigne would come up with anything decent herself. Plus her planned performance at Rotterdam 2020 was amateurish and embarrassing.

if its the song that I’ve heard, that means that we will have 1000% Montaigne this time. The song is banging!

I’m praying she comes with something alternative and different. ‘Don’t Break Me’ was too mainstream, and honestly… boring. The song didn’t have many highs and lows, it was just flat.

I’m a huge fan of what Guy, Dami, and Isaiah brought to the table, but I feel like Australia’s been offering more personality the last years with Jess, Kate, and Montaigne and I’m here for it. If Montaigne stays true to herself, it could be a very interesting and entertaining entry.

I hope it’s a bit less mainstream than her last song, and more unique, if it’s anything like her 2019 album complex, I’m going to be very happy, that album is great.

Complex is the best Album I ever heard!!! If she has a song in the style of that album, wigs will be snatched.

maybe the fact that she has confirmed her esc entry whilst on holiday with her boyfriend could be foreshadowing….a collab?

as an australian, incredibly excited to see what montaigne will bring. I have faith that she can bring something more out of the box than Don’t Break Me – here’s hoping DNA aren’t involved with the track. not that DNA are bad, but I would like more variety.
