After five acts from heat one qualified for the semi-final last week, it was time for the second heat of Pabandom iš Naujo! 2021 in Lithuania. Five more acts have advanced to the final. They are: Gebrasy, Gabrielus Vagilis, Evita Cololo, Norbertas and Aistė Brokenleg.

This year’s series of Pabandom iš Naujo! has been shortened. It includes two heats, one semi-final and one grand final. A total of 21 acts are taking part in the Baltic state’s music competition, which will determine their artist and song for Eurovision 2021.

The ten acts that got through the two heats will perform in the semi-final on 30 January. Eventually, five acts will make it through to the final from the semi, and will compete alongside last year’s winners The Roop.

The result was determined by both a jury and televoters, who each accounted for half of the score. Among the jury members were LRT popular music editor Ramūnas Zilnys, presenter Gerūta Griniūtė, songwriter Vytautas Bikus, performer Ieva Narkutė and singer Stanislavas Stavickis-Stano.

And while the drama was high to see who would make it through, we can’t avoid one reality: For many, tonight was all about seeing The Roop perform their song “Discoteque”, which has pushed Lithuania to the top of the Eurovision 2021 betting odds. The group, who won the competition last year, have been given an automatic spot in this year’s final, owing to the cancellation of last year’s edition.

You can watch all of the Heat 2 performances below.

If The Roop do win, we’ll at least have a decent opener for semi-final one.

This heat really delivered. There were at least 6 or 7 entries I enjoyed. In fact, my fav semifinalists come from this heat. Gebrasy tops my list. Such an emotional and atmospheric song. It has some potential to tweak some camera angles, graphics, lighting, props… which would clearly elevate the song. I could see it placing, at least, top 15 in May. I prefer this one over The Roop tbh. I agree The Roop gave a winner performance, which makes me think about the fairness of the show. No other contestant had those camera angles, the lighting, graphics or even… Read more »

It’s easy. With The Roop Lithuania woulf compete for a place in the top 5 in Rotterdam. Come on, Lithuania. You have one job.

I don’t think the lyrics have been released yet. Until then, maybe ask Wiwi to interview him or the songwriter(s)?

I was wary I would be eating my words now. The roop absolutely sold it to me tonight, definitely a song made to be performed live. Very campy in parts to, I look forward to dancing along to this in May. As for the rest tonight, semi 2 was a lot better than last week. Gebrasy was a standout, gave me monique vibes from last, who was my favourite and what I’ve been hoping to discover this year again from Lithuania. Norbertas had my favourite song, although he didn’t really sell it so well.

I think I might like Discoteque better than On Fire even though it’s not as instantly catchy. But I prefer On Fire’s staging and styling. It felt modern and edgy. This feels a lot cheaper and more gimicky. Uno was a smash hit (I’ll never understand that) and this kinda feels like they are trying way too hard to go for the same reaction. Unlike Uno, this has meaning so I hope they tone it down and bring back their cool factor.

Personally I wish they remove the part where they start swinging their hands over their heads. It’s just too distracting and seems more crazy than quirky. Other than that, I think the other dance moves are quite nice but overall I definately prefer On fire’s choreo.

Am I the only one who’s not seeing an obvious TheRoop’s victory?? It’s true, they might have a bigger fanbase than anyone else, but the other semifinalists gave it a go, and they seem to be willing to go to ESC too.
For the moment, I see 4 clear finalists:
TheRoop, Gabrielius, Gebrasy and Martyna.
The other 2 I wish they were Evita and BeU, but I wouldn’t mind if Titas&Benas, Milita or Norbertas were there instead.

The problem is that *this* might be Gebrassy’s song. He’s competed before and has always been amongst the weaker entrants. I don’t know if this song is indicative of some new, brilliant musical direction for him or his lightning in a bottle. I hope he can match this with his future music but it’s not a definite thing, that’s for sure.

Gebrasy is good and would be a worthy Lithuanian ESC entry but The Roop won’t be beaten in the PIN final and they will do well in Rotterdam.

Gebrasy and Norbertas were my favourites tonight, they both have good songs and performed well. But I think The ROOP is pretty much a runaway juggernaut now so I can’t see them making it.

And a special mention for Aiste Brokenleg, I enjoyed her song last year and once again she has come with something different so I’m glad she got a place in the semi-final.

One question: Did the Roop sing live? If they can sing flawlessly like this, and do that really complicated choreography, I am sorry, but game over. This will not end up lower than third in Rotterdam. I feel very sorry for Gebrasy, because his song is better than any Lithuanian entry that was not by the Roop. In any other year other than 2020, or 2021, this would be a shoo-in to win the National Final.

No, I’m sure it wasn’t live. There was also a continuation error when the lead singer was doing the hand finger movement (he was doing the hand finger movement to the left of the stage and when it finished he was then in the middle of the stage). Good performance overall though.

No , it wasn’t live. But remember this year backing vocals will be allowed so live vocals are not so much in the forefront.

I love Discotheque from the Roop but i just dont see it being a top 3 Eurovision song especially since ive seen such middling reaction to the actual song so far compared to last year with the high praise On Fire got. I predict it will be top 10 but it also depends on the rest of the songs that come out. I am sure there are going to be some cracker entries from other countries.

Yes! Aiste Brokenleg made it! Her last year’s song was simply amazing (as well as ridiculously underrated) and so is “Home”. I kinda miss the eccentricity of “Electric Boy”, but she more than made up for it by turning up the emotional factor. This quirky indie style of hers is right up my alley and I hope with all my heart that she gets to the final, cause she seriously deserves it.

It’s a little cruel that this heat happened after we already know The Roop came strong to keep their throne, because they had a much better show tonight. Inverting Sunday Afternoon with Norbertas, they would match my ranking. Gebrasy was great, I think he would do well in Eurovision. I love Vagelis, I trust his day will come. But at this point it would be insane for Lithuania to not send “Discoteque”. Their performance is ready to go and The Roop is a delight to watch.

In my dreamworld, him and The Roop would race for the win toe by toe and one would win just by a point, Melfest 2020 style! Seriously, two great songs + performances. 🙂

This year is likely The Roop’s and I expect them to knock it out of the park in Rotterdam.

I’m adding Gebrasy’s name next to Monika Marija and KaYra in the ”should win very soon” category.

Yeah, Gebrasy joined my list too, Vagelis, KaYra, Ruta Loop, Monika and Moniqué were already there. Lithuania is flourishing with people I want to see in Eurovision ASAP.

I’d gladly sign that this is the prediction of future 6 winners for Lithuania. I am also open to additionally discovering some new talents. This small Baltic state is really having some people capable of assuring their first victory one day, if The Roop don’t do it first (and frankly, they might).

The roop might win , but not this year . I mean ESC. I figure the inevitable comparison of how On fire had a catchier chorus will detract from discotheque

They could make it short by simply declaring Gebrasy the runner-up and The Roop the winners of the selection, lol.

Gebrasy’s song seems so heartfelt, it’s very pleasant to listen to. If he returns in the future and works on his stage presence, he could totally make it to Eurovision.

I can’t pick out a single flaw about the performance of The Roop. I’m sure they will leave quite an impression on the Eurovision viewers.

Colin

Hmm… it had ”wow” effect on me since the first listening, so there’s that. Also, I don’t recall Jonida, Tamara or Duncan moving all that much last year, and it didn’t hurt their results. I agree that if it was done for ESC, that the staging / lighting would have to be given an additional ”oomph”. I also agree that The Roop are objectively Lithuania’s best chance for a Top Ten ticket. However, I am almost positive this would do well at ESC as well.

I think this shows the real interest for this year’s “PiN”. Isn’t Martyna the one rumoured this year to “buy” the voting last week? (I read comments about SIM Cards…)
Gebrasy’s been a deserved round winner, but you’re true about having a song that’s no memorable at all.
More like “no effort” I see the artists doing more personal, laid back songs and less comercial stuff, as they’re barely giving no live concerts anytime soon.

Well done all round.
About The Roop: I may not like the music, but I have to admit that “Discoteque” is perfect for 2021 lockdowns! Surely Lithuania’s pretty much all done with selecting here.

I hope so much that The Roop will win, but I’m afraid that Gebrasy will win the jury vote. And the jury breaks tie results so that sucks 🙁
