Already in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2021 semi-finals, three acts have earned a place in the grand final and four automatic finalists have performed their songs. Now broadcaster NRK has revealed the next four acts who will face the vote in Saturday’s fourth semi-final of MGP 2021. The competing acts are Landeveiens Helter, KiiM, Royane and Marianne Pentha & Mikkel Gaup.
Melodi Grand Prix 2021: Semi-Final 4 artists
Landeveiens Helter – “Alt det der”
Songwriters: Lars-Erik Blokkhus, Petter Bjørklund Kristiansen and Thor-Erik Claussen
They’re jokingly described as “Norway’s newest boyband” but Landeveiens Helter is a supergroup of Norwegian music legends – Rune Rudberg, Dag Ingebrigtsen, Lars Erik Blokkhus and Stian Staysman Thorbjørnsen. Three members have competed at MGP as solo artists, with Rune Rudberg a six-time MGP veteran. Dag Ingebrigtsen, however, will be the oldest MGP debutante. Their entry is their first single as a group and celebrates a long life, that despite some setbacks, has been worth living.
KiiM – “My Lonely Voice”
Songwriters: Kim Rune Hagen, Espen Andreas Fjeld, Vebjørn Jernberg and Niklas Rosström
KiiM — otherwise known as Kim Rune Hagen — got his start on Norwegian Idol in 2007 where he placed third. He performed with the group Spinning Foundation, took a break and pursued a career in real estate, then felt the call of music again. He has written his song, “My Lonely Voice” about his own experiences and feelings.
Royane – “Circus”
Songwriters: Royane Harkati
Royane is an upcoming singer-songwriter who is also making a name for herself on TikTok and Instagram where she is known for her style and humour. Royane is a woman of many talents, taking responsibility for the hair, makeup and styling in her music videos. Describing her MGP entry, she says “I like to surprise and I like to run concepts. I look forward to sharing everything I have worked on. It will be chaos, fun and mysterious.”
Marianne Pentha & Mikkel Gaup – “Pages”
Songwriters: Vanessa Liftig, Robin Lynch, Marianne Pentha and Mikkel Gaup
Marianne Pentha and Mikkel Gaup are delivering the second joik entry into Melodi Grand Prix this year. Marienne got her start as a backing singer for country singers, but stepped into the spotlight in her own right on The Voice in 2012. She also provided the voice of Elsa in the Sami dub of Frozen 2.
Mikkel Gaup appeared in the Oscar-nominated 1987 film Veiviseren and has an international reputation as a joik performer. Of the MGP entry, Mikkel says “It is a dream come true. This is a small victory.” This weekend’s fourth semi-final also falls on Sámi National Day, a celebration of the Sami people.
The winner from the fourth semi-final will join the winners of the other semi-finals and the pre-qualified finalists in the grand final on 20 February:
- Atle Pettersen – “World on Fire”
- Blåsemafian feat. Hazel – “Let Loose”
- Emmy – “Witch Woods”
- Kaja Rode – “Feel Again”
- KEiiNO – “Monument”
- Raylee – “Hero”
- Rein Alexander – “Eyes Wide Open”
- Stavangerkameratene – “Barndomsgater”
- TIX – “Ut av mørket”
As well, the 15 non-qualifying acts from the semi-finals will have one more chance to make the final with the wildcard special on 15 February.
What do you think? Which of the four semi-final 4 songs do you like? Should any of these songs be Norway’s pick for Eurovision 2021? Sound off below!
Pages or alt det der
AFter not liking any songs form last week…. this week I like all the entrys.
I Like circus even though it s not my style. It really sticks out. And it’s very 2021. The staging options are wide.
Pages
This selection is meh (just not good enough, sorry). Pages is ok and will win.
My Lonely Voice is Arcade Part 2 —— Love it xxx
Pages —— Great
The other 2 no…. just no
Another semi with a lot of variety of genres and I feel the entries on this one are more well-rounded than those from last Saturday’s show. As a song, “Pages” is the more interesting to my ears, but If KiiM can sing this well when going live, I can see he stealing all the show to himself.
Got to be KiiM and I don’t contemplate any other options. It seems like the author had in mind a combination between “Arcade” and a song from a musical drama like “The Greatest Showman”.
I cant believe so many are negative to these songs. I laugh because those people are obviously just super jealous of Norway this year. Our selection is overall pretty great this year ? France had many nice songs this year, but they were staged horribly many of them… Unfortunately. Lithuania literally only has 2 songs that is possible to listen to out of 20 songs… Thankfully they are both the bookies favorites to win the final. Estonia has some good songs for sure, buy the variety is lacking unfortunately… Portugal will be exciting this year as there are som interesting… Read more »
no sorry nobody is jealous or whatever so no need to criticize the others for that moreover when what you say is totally wrong.
It’s not a contest of who will have the best national final, the thing is to have the best songs coming from these national finals selected to go to eurovision, nothing more.
Don’t be so bitter guy.
Of course, not a surprise.
This semi is the weakest so far. Circus and Alt det der are fine but the others are meh. Pages is like Keiino but made in China. Congrats on copying I hope you’ll lose (I’ll get a lot of downvotes)
Um, Sami culture isn’t owned exclusively by Keiino. In fact, Mikkel Gaup is one of the most respected Sami joikers, arguably more famous than Keiino’s Fred.
They aren’t copying, in fact, following that rule KEiiNO would have copied all the sámis before…
Who’s the prequalified act?
Atle Pettersen with World on Fire
Alt det der: It has a campfire vibe to me. It’s pretty pleasant! My Lonely Voice: It’s a grower. Fantastic vocal performance. The song feels personal. Circus: Really catchy, reminiscent of Nicki Minaj. I’m afraid it won’t have a good vocal performance, but hopefully, I’m wrong. Pages: I appreciate it, but to me, something is missing. It reminds me of We Are As One from last year, but Pages is weaker, in my opinion. My top 4: 1, Circus 2, My Lonely Voice 3, Pages 4, Alt det der However, I have a feeling that KiiM will go to the… Read more »
Probably my least favorite semi so far. Here is my ranking:
Great songs in this selection. The only song I don ‘t like is:
Royane – “Circus”
The other 3 are beautiful !!
I think KIIM has the strongest song but I have a soft spot for Pages (the joik really mixes well with the melody). Alt Det Der sounds great and the group seems to have some big names in Norway so perhaps they will make it through instead.
I actually really enjoyed circus
I like none of these, to be honest. But I am excited to see the staging for Circus.
Weakest semi so far! Shame!
OK thank you Norway to give us songs ! Except Albania, Israel, France, Estonia, Lithuania, Portugal, Finland who have already given some songs it’s cool but the others what are you doing really, the internal selections who are the same singers as last year you had so much time since the cancellation of 2020 to work on your songs, it was a special year, we need songs now to enjoy, and you will wait until the last time to reveal them, really?! It’s bad. Wake up we are in february, there are 43 days until the deadline guys and we… Read more »
The sad thing is I already know that we will have 24 songs (and certainly more) out of 38 in a few days in March, I’m done.
I liked the little keiino pun in there haha!
You are right and you have 9 dislikes lol
“Pages” is alright. Otherwise, there’s not really much for me. Again, Norway are lucky that their pre-qualified acts are strong because it’s slim pickings in these semi finals.
I think this semi is pretty strong! Royane is my favorite song this week. I think its fresh, and it kinda sounds like Stefflon Don from UK. I hope it wins, it Would be a fresh song for the final. KIIM also has a good song. If he can pull of the high notes i think it will be a contendor for the win! Alt det der is not my personally favorite, but i am scared of the group winning because of the popularity of Staysman & etc. Pages is the weakest song this week i think, it’s just not… Read more »
Well this definitely a stronger heat this week. Will be putting my money on ‘pages’, I really like it and great to here some more joik. Kiim would be my choice for the runner, it’s a middle of the road ballad, but not offensive.
I think kiim would qualify if there was a jury element involved. Being 100% televote I’m guessing it’ll be circus or pages
“Pages” I loveeee. It’s like a combo between VAL and KEiiNO with the joiking, a beautiful combination anyway?
“Circus” Another great song! Expected this to be the qualifier, if not then itll be the wildcard so see you in the final Royane
“Alt det Der” Cool song, definitely not bad just not my cup of tea that’s all.
“My Lonely Voice” Such an amazing voice and emotional song. Definitely reminds me of Israel 2016. I think I prefer my lonely voice to made of stars though 😉
Another good selection of songs this week. Pages grabs me the most, I am not entirely certain what the message is but there is an emotional connection and it impressed me the most. Circus is also fun and different and it almost reminded me of Nicki Minaj which is not a bad thing. Alt det der was very well done classic soft rock which a catchy chorus. The song that gripped me the least was My Lonely Voice, but it was by no means bad with a strong vocal performance. This feels like a strong, diverse week so roll on… Read more »
The best semi-final so far, I’m also rooting for Kim. The best entry taking into consideration all of the 4 semi-finals. I think he might be ‘the one’ for Norway.
kim is the strongest but its no Attention, so I doubt he’s winner material…but the strongest of semi 4
OMG!!!! I am so excited now. “Pages” is just absolutely AMAZING!!! On first listening it is by far the best song of the year so far!!! “Circus” is also absolutely awesome!!! So different and edgy and the potential for an amazing staging is aboslutely there. “My Lonely Voice” is also a really really good ballad, though i am not sure if i love the tone of his voice… Which to me sounds like a mix of Conchita Wurst and Anastacia… Those are the names I came to think of when i heard it. But still such a good song. “Alt… Read more »
not really into this heat. kiim is the only one that can have som sort of an impact
Wow loved KiiM, great voice and emotional song.
I don’t like any of the songs very much, unfortunately. Just not my taste.
But if I’d have to choose, I’d go with Kiim.
Circus is my favorite here, but Pages is a good entry too in my opinion.
Ok, all of these are really good. This is probably the strongest semi so far, I have no clue who I’d want to put through.
Agree with you there . All of them are of completely different genre too so it’s hard to predict which Norway will vote to the final. I’m sure whoever doesn’t advance will be a contender for the wildcard alongside Stina Talling however .
Agreed. So far Stina is my wildcard winner, but I could see one of these being that winner as well.
Complete opposite for me, this is the weakest semi by far. There are no songs that are to my taste. Oh well, gives me more time to watch the Lithuanian final and semi 1 of Melfest.
Norway the best
