Senhit Eurovision 2021 song to be released on 23 February

She’s the Italian superstar who was set to get “Freaky!” on stage in Rotterdam last year. Now, Senhit is ready to get freaky again! San Marino national broadcaster SMRTV has confirmed that Senhit will release her Eurovision 2021 entry on Tuesday 23 February.

San Marino’s Eurovision 2021 song coming Saturday 23 February

SMRTV confirmed the news on Monday 1 February in a post on their Instagram story. The statement reads:

“Save the date! Senhit and San Marino RTV will reveal the Sammarinese entry at Eurovision Song Contest 2021 on 23rd of February!”

This appears to confirm that SMRTV have opted to internally select Senhit’s new song for Rotterdam. Last year, Senhit hosted an online digital battle to select her Eurovision 2020 song. Fans voted for their favourite of two songs, “Obsessed” and “Freaky!”, with the latter securing the most votes. There is no news of this format returning.

This year marks Senhit’s third time representing San Marino at Eurovision. In 2011, she sang the breezy rock track “Stand By”, but failed to qualify from the semi-finals. Her shot at Eurovision redemption was snatched away from her following the cancellation of the 2020 contest, where she was set to sing “Freaky!”. Perhaps third time’s the charm?

Senhit’s Eurovision 2021 song will be released on Saturday 23 February.

#FreakyTripToRotterdam: Senhit covers Koza Mostra and Agathon Iakovidis’ “Alcohol Is Free”

As well as the song announcement, the “Freaky!” singer continues to spoil us with the latest addition in her #FreakyTripToRotterdam campaign. This month, she re-interprets Greek Eurovision 2013 entry “Alcohol is Free”. The stunning video sees Senhit don lavish costumes referencing Greek culture and burlesque fashion.

“I wanted to emphasise the most combative soul of this piece, through extraordinary make-up and clothes which recall the Greek culture,” she says. She continues to explain the video was also inspired by Madonna’s “Human Nature” and Guesch Patti’s “Etienne”, with its references to provocative French burlesque.

The Italian superstar launched #FreakyTripToRotterdam last Summer. Every month, Senhit releases a new music video covering a past Eurovision hit in the build up to Eurovision 2021. Since launch, the superstar has released epic covers of Eurovision classics, including Conchita Wurst’s “Rise Like a Phoenix” and Salvador Sobral’s “Amar Pelos Dois”.

What do you think of Senhit’s “Alcohol Is Free” cover? Are you excited to hear her Eurovision 2021 song? Let us know in the comments below.

I liked her 2011 entry, it wasn’t strong enough to compete on the big stage but it was nice to listen to.

I think her 2020 entry was boring and repetitive. Senhit is a great artist and i hope they have a big song for her. I expect a spectacular show.

Couldn’t stand her in 2011, but love her in 2020/21, she’s a real fun lady bringing much needed joy at this difficult time.

After all this work so hope she qualifies for the final at least.

Loved freaky too

I adore Senhit! She’s been such a Eurovision joy this past year. I still think Freaky had really good chances for a Top 10 finish and hope she comes with another fun uplifting song that keeps the party going! Looking forward to the release 🙂

No, I think she’s great! Freaky was a lot of fun, and I think Senhit would have delivered something really energetic, colourful and compelling on stage. Senhit’s 2020 entry was more interesting and engaging than quite a few of the other entries in SF2, including Estonia, Austria, Poland, Albania, Finland, Portugal, Georgia, and Moldova. Those songs/performances had their merits but Senhit certainly, I think, had a good chance to qualify over them. San Marino punch above their weight in ESC and I admire that.
