Melodifestivalen 2021: Kadiatou “One Touch”

The teen star hails from Lidingö and made her breakthrough on Idol 2018, where she finished as the runner-up. After her success there, she covered “Say Something”. Her cover featured on Grey’s Anatomy and was certified platinum in Sweden. She’s a young star going from strength to strength.

“One Touch” is described as a dance club song. Kadiatou herself says it’s “a very positive, happy and delightful song. I hope it will have everyone at home standing up dancing in the sofa. Expect something you have never seen before.” It’s definitely made waves with the bookies, currently sitting at sixth place at 12/1. She’s set to open the show and has a lot of pressure on her young shoulders, but we’re confident that she’ll deliver.

What do the “One Touch” lyrics mean?

“One Touch” is a song about self-respect and enjoying yourself. Kadiatou describes the uplifting feelings of dancing after dark: “I’m dancing to the beat, the rhythm of the night”. The track vividly describes a sense of escapism: “I’m caught up in my dreaming, there’s something in the air”.

The young singer then describes the “one touch” she needs, to “take a dive into the deep blue sea”. However, she says “baby not now”. It’s a strong message about consent in a genre which can often be shady about that area. It celebrates control in sexuality, which is great to hear from a young singer.

Kadiatou elaborates in the second verse: “It does not mean I do not like you, it’s just the way I feel, there’s nothing you can do, cause I’m in it now for real”. Simple lyrics, but effective. She’ll be there when she’s ready, and that’s the way it should be.

“One Touch” lyrics — Kadiatou (Melfest 2021)

Songwriters: Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Jimmy ”Joker” Thörnfeldt and Anderz Wrethov. Joy and Linnea have written many many successful Mello entries, most notably the Eurovision 2015 winner “Heroes” (2015). Wrethov won Melodifestivalen in 2019 with John Lundvik’s ”Too Late For Love”. He also co-wrote “Fuego”. Thörnfeldt co-wrote “El diablo” — Cyprus’ 2021 song.

English lyrics

I’m caught up in my dreaming
There’s something in the air
So good I’m barely breathing
Wait up I’m almost there

Lights and fireflies
My mind is on it’s
way up to the sky
So high up and I’m
dancing to the beat
The rhythm of the night

One touch
Is all I need
I take a dive into the deep blue sea
One touch
Is all I need
From you

But baby not
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Now

Baby not
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now

It does not mean that I do not like you
It’s just the way I feel
There’s nothing that you can do
Cause I’m in it now for real (for real)

Lights and fireflies
My mind is on it’s
way up to the sky
So high up and
I’m dancing to the beat
The rhythm of the night

One touch
Is all I need
I take a dive into the deep blue sea
One touch
Is all I need
From you

But baby not
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Now

Baby not
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now

Lights and fireflies
My mind is on it’s
way up to the sky

One touch
Is all I need
I take a dive into the deep blue sea
One touch
Is all I need
from you

But baby not
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Now

But baby not
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Na na na
Not now
Now

Baby not now

Wow, are the lyrics actually that repetitive?
