Since being reconfirmed in May as Latvia‘s act for Eurovision 2021, Samanta Tīna has been hard at work creating her entry for Rotterdam. And soon the fruits of her labour will be revealed. Samanta will release her Eurovision 2021 entry on 12 March. This will follow a five-week documentary series that will show the creation of her Eurovision entry.

Broadcaster LTV confirmed details of the new series, titled Kā uzvarēt Eirovīzijā? Samantas Tīnas ceļš uz Roterdamu or How to Win Eurovision? Samanta Tīna’s Road to Rotterdam.

The series will debut on Friday 12 February and will continue on Friday nights until 12 March. The five-part series will document the creation of Samanta Tīna’s new Eurovision entry, with each episode focusing on a different aspect of the creative process.

With Latvia’s regular national final Supernova on pause for 2021, the news series fills that gap and provides five weeks of local music content.

Samanta Tīna’s Road to Rotterdam series

Episode one will start with the songwriting camp held in October. There Samanta worked with leading Latvian musical creatives — including Aminata Savadogo — and worked on potential Eurovision entries.

The second episode will focus on costume design for the entry. Samanta Tīna has always served very fashion-forward looks with her Supernova entries. Last year she wore an unforgettable bodysuit made of crimson fringing.

Experts and former Eurovision stars will feature in the third episode. They’ll offer up their advice on what makes a winning Eurovision entry.

In the fourth episode, Samanta will take the viewer inside the process of creating the staging for her Eurovision entry. And in the fifth and final episode, we’ll see the creation of the music video for the song.

With the final episode on March 12, we’ll also get to see the finished product. The episode will also include the debut of Samanta’s completed entry for Eurovision 2021.

Samanta has also given a few clues about the direction her Eurovision 2021 song has taken. She told LTV, “I’m not looking for a standard Eurovision classic! I want to stay with that surprise, that crazy.”

She explained, “I want the song to have something glorifying, a cult, traditions, when everyone knows that Latvia is coming out! I’m not talking about [traditional Latvian folk styles]; I’m talking about something in modern colours.”

Samanta Tīna originally won Supernova 2020 with her song “Still Breathing”. After Eurovision 2020 was cancelled, she was internally selected as Latvia’s act for 2021.

What do you think? What sort of song do you think Samanta will take to Rotterdam? Can she top the red fringed bodysuit of 2020? Tell us your thoughts below!

If we wouldn’t have some national finals like we do now, all entries would be released only in March. On the other note: Is Aminata Savadogo going to be part of every entry always!!

I respect their enthusiasm, but wouldn’t it make more sense to publish the documentary after the song has been released or after it won the contest?

Like, don’t get me wrong, but just imagine she places dead last in the semi final..

I don’t want people to play up expectations, particularly if the song is as weird as her last, and doesn’t have the running order position that would have qualified Still Breathing, however nightmarish that was.

Won’t it be a bit hard to make a documentary about the creation of a song, without… revealing the song? Lol

The song will probably appear throughout the series, but in demo-snippet form. You will probably be able to hear up to 20 seconds of the song in the first episode alone, but it will be nothing new, as she posted some instagram stories from the studio in which you were able to hear it as well. But just a week ago or so she posted a story that they are still polishing the song, so the end result, the song in full, fully polished will be presented on March 12.

Said she will release It end of January and now she says middle of March release. For that lost big respect. Cancelled release on last day.

I can’t blame her alone if LTV wants to do it and agrees to produce it — or vice versa this is LTV’s plan and she agrees to it. Plus it’s a big, BIG honor to get a five-part documentary shown every week on your national TV.

Nobody ever said it will be released in January. Only thing she once said about January is “you will be able to see it in January”, but that was regarding her concert on LTV. Someone mistook it and decided to spread false information that the Eurovision song will be released in January.

Hiya everyone, I’m a long long time reader but first time commenter but felt a bit compelled to. Reading the article I thought fair play to Latvia, they are clearly putting some effort in and trying to build some excitement for their entry. Yes March is going to be busy, but a chunk of songs dropping at the same time ain’t the worst thing in the world. Hope everyone has a great season!!

Sounds promising, like she will not go for something safe. If it is as out there as Still Breathing, I will be happy.

Well with her own Saturday night TV show it makes more sense then countries that keep quit until the final end.

oh well, March again? why does everyone keep delaying and delaying? I know, it is still before the deadline, but still a longer wait is more exhausting. stacking all releases in March is not recommended. at least there should have been at least 20 songs that are already released and selected in their complete final shapes or forms by the end of February (28 or 29).

March release dumps are the new “Too many dang ballads!” of the season.

Everyone wants their entry to surprise us, of course. The later the release, the bigger the anticipation — theoretically.
