Eighteen years have passed since Jessica Andersson represented Sweden at Eurovision 2003 in Riga, as part of Fame. Fortunately for her fans, she has continued to participate at Melodifestivalen over the years, most recently in 2018 with “Party Voice”. She returns in 2021 with “Horizon”, a song which she immediately connected with.

Melodifestivalen 2021: Jessica Andersson “Horizon”
Jessica Andersson will sing “Horizon” in the first semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2021. This marks her eighth appearance in the competition and her sixth as a solo artist. She won the competition on her first attempt in 2003, going on to finish fifth at Eurovision as part of Fame. Jessica has made it to the final on each of her last three appearances at Melodifestivalen.
“Horizon” was written by a team with significant Melodifestivalen experience. David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Marcus Lidén, Christian Holmström and Jesper Jakobson form the songwriting team. Kempe has penned four Melfest winners, most recently “Undo” in 2014. Kreuger has also written two Melfest winners, most recently “I Can’t Go On” in 2017.
Kreuger and Kempe also collaborated on Jessica’s previous Melfest entry “Party Voice”. Jessica certainly has an all-star songwriting team behind this entry and will be aiming to qualify for yet another Melfest final.
3. Jessica Andersson – “Horizon”
It starts off simply but builds and builds. Gospel choir, key changes. Warm nostalgic lyrics and feelgood vibe – perhaps a similar tone to “Love Shine a Light”? Vocals on point, will probably be even mighter live.— wiwibloggs (@wiwibloggs) February 3, 2021
What do the “Horizon” lyrics mean?
“Horizon” delivers a hopeful message, fitting given current global events. Jessica sings about falling in love and painting the horizon, suggesting that the future is yet to be written. The message is one of much optimism, with Jessica calling out “light up the world”.
Talking about “Horizon”, Jessica says: “The song is grand and has a lot of hope in it. It’s challenging to sing. I listened to a lot of possible songs for this year’s Melodifestivalen, and many were great, but this one struck me like none of the others. I love it.”
“Horizon” lyrics — Jessica Andersson (Melfest 2021)
We were kids,
Always running
Came from nowhere,
Try’na make it big
We were kids,
Nothing could stop us
We built this monster so we can make it here
It’s so easy to fall
It’s so easy to fall in love
It’s so easy to fall in love in your backyard
So light up the world and
Paint the horizon
Light up the world for us
We’ll go to the lighthouse
Find the horizon
Light up the world for us
See the horizon
See the horizon
And light up the world for us
Catch a view
Of endless suburbs
Love like fireworks
Of a shattered youth
It’s so easy to fall
It’s so easy to fall in love in your backyard
So light up the world and
Paint the horizon
Light up the world for us
We’ll go to the lighthouse
Find the horizon
Light up the world for us
See the horizon
See the horizon
And light up the world for us
See the horizon
See the horizon
And light up the world for us
We were kids
Nothing could stop us
We built this monster
When we were kids
We were kids
So light up the world and
Paint the horizon
Light up the world for us
We’ll go to the lighthouse
Find the horizon
Light up the world for us
See the horizon
See the horizon
And light up the world for us
See the horizon
See the horizon
And light up the world for us
And light up the world for us

OK after the first listen to the snippets i personally think the one that is remotely ESC is Kadiatou..the rest are kind of bland to be honest…(even Kadiatou but her chorus save the song)
Anyone else as coocoo as I am, and keeps checking the SVT page for the song snippets to come up? haha
They are up!! 😀
Sorry for the spam wiwibloggs but, since I’m on this post, I must say I love Jessica’s song snippet!
Will we hear the snippets today?
we should 🙂
Fingers crossed haha cant wait till saturday!!
I was expecting a few Covid-inspired songs this year- here’s the first one! (That I’ve noticed anyway)
nope, not a covid song, but aren’t you smart . . .
Don’t you think that “Discoteque” is Corona-inspired as well? “It is ok to dance alone”…
And there are a few more. “Alabama Watchdog” in Estonia for example.
I haven’t been completely keeping up with all the songs entered this year, so I’m sure I’ve missed plenty. I was thinking songs about getting together, not being caged/trapped anymore, want to break of the shackles- which I realise Israel’s entry could be interpreted as
Discoteque slays and is inspirational covid inspired song ?
