The first semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2021 takes place this Saturday in Stockholm. Seven acts are set to take to the stage, all hoping to secure one of four spots in the next rounds of the contest.

Two will advance direkt till final. Two will have to fight another day in the duels at andra chansen. And three acts will advance no further and have to pack their bags.

You’ve read the media reviews, you’ve heard the audio snippets and you’ve watched the rehearsal clips. So now we want to know who you think should win semi-final one of Melfest 2021.

Are you feeling in touch with Kadiatou’s song? Do you see glory on the horizon for Lillasyster or Jessica Andersson? Will you fill in Paul Rey’s missing piece by sending him your vote? Are you confident that Arvingarna won’t have to go home at all and will move on in the competition? Do your finger(print)s tap along while Nathalie Brydolf sings, or are you up and dancing along with Danny Saucedo?

You can show your love for as many of Saturday night’s acts as you like in our poll below, but make it count because you can only vote once. We’ll close the poll and reveal the results in advance of Saturday night’s semi-final.

Poll: Who should win semi-final 1 of Melodifestivalen 2021?

As a Swede I think we will see Arvingarna, Danny Saucedo and Jessica Andersson go through simply because they are household names. None of the songs are impressive to me, but Lillasyster has the most authentic sound. They will not go through but I will likely vote for them anyway. I’m surprised Paul Rey is returning with an even more boring song than last year. Danny Sacuedo’s performance looks weak and underwhelming, I was really hoping he would make a stronger comeback. I don’t think he’s in it to win this time anyway, hence the song in Swedish. Most artists… Read more »

Hmm after seeing 30 seconds of performance, kadiatou has no energy at all on stage, it brings down the song alot…would have been better if someone like renaida had the song instead

Its funny you mention that, I was just thinking Renaida is a much needed addition to Melo! I was likewise left feeling uninspired by the 30 second performance clip but I’m hoping that changes come Saturday.

Agree! Renaida has that energy needed for this type of song!

Nathalie left the biggest impression on me judging by all the snippets with Kadiatou following closely, it’s all about the full-length versions and performances in the end so I hope I’m more surprised for what I feel maybe the weakest opening semi to Melfest for over a decade…

My prediction as a swede
Final:Arvingarna

I do agree with the Top 4 , but I think Arvingarna will be going to AC and one of Jessica or Danny replace them in final

well paul just became a dad so his song is for his daughter, so he will get a free pass from me but danny…..no comment

All of the songs here are fillers in the final, meaning no winners but there to just get a spot. That said, if I had to choose who is best here I would go after Nathalie, its the genre I prefer of the songs.

Just based on these snippets, I’d say Nathalie, Paul & Jessica. I’ll add Kadiatou for AC. It’s quite possible I change my mind entirely after hearing the full versions.

Interestingly, the poll suggests that two DTF favorites are Nathalie and Kadiatou. While certainly possible, I think it would be a precedant to have not one, but two debutants winning alongside four returnees – one who almost won twice, one who had success last year and two who previously won and have went DTF many times since. But will it happen?

I think I’ll join the choir you’re on Naomi, this semifinal was something I was really waiting but the entries just were so underwhelming! None of the songs stood out as something that would be clearly going to the final. :–(

Arvingara has literally the same stage show as Guy Sebastian in Eurovision in 2015!

i know i’m not in the majority here but i thought this semi was super strong and interesting. there wasn’t a single song i don’t like

my top:
DtF: danny saucedo, nathalie
AC: kadiatou, lillasyster (my taste sorry)
5. jessica andersson
6. arvingarna
7. paul rey (huge letdown from last year but by no means is it terrible)

danny is the clear winner of this semi and i think eurofans get blinded by the fact that they all want a female to represent sweden every year while overlooking the male contestants who actually have good songs

The reason most euro fans want a woman representing Sweden is because A male solo singer represented them from 2015-2019 and when 3 girls get chosen for 2020 it gets cancelled

it should be about the song and the artist not whats between their legs…

I heard Nathalie’s staging is going to have an effect like she is standing on the ocean all by herself, some kind of mirroring effect. Read some press say it was spectacular.

From the snippets and rehearsals, I’d say my favourites are One Touch and Fingerprints. Nathalie looked absolutely stunning in her rehearsal and sounded great! Can’t wait to hear and see the whole performances. I think this semi final is anyone’s game.

One Touch is the clear stand out for me in this semi-final. This song could easily be a summer hit. Hoping this goes straight to the final on Saturday!

This is one of those times where I wish there was a none of the above option. I just didn’t vote at all because none of them really stood out to me. The winner is definitely not going to be from this semi-final. I hope the rest of the songs are better.

Its a pretty solid semi-final made up of Melfest comebacks and high-profile debutants though imo no winner could come out of here..

I felt that Jessica and Nathalie’s snippets showed the most promise but after seeing William and Padraig’s reactions to the full performances, I almost wonder if the snippets are a bit misleading.

Regardless, those two appeal to me the most based off the snippets so I voted for them.
