Blas Cantó’s two songs for Destino Eurovision 2021 have been released. From a list of ten offerings, “Memoria” and “Voy a Quedarme” have made the cut. One of them will be Spain’s song for Eurovision 2021. Both songs are now available on the RTVE Eurovision website and all streaming platforms.

“Memoria”
“Memoria” is an uptempo track all about making you sing and dance. Composed by Steve Daly, Oliver Som and Leroy Sánchez, the production includes plenty of percussion and a mix of voices that play off each other to deliver a powerful sound. Sánchez is well-known to Blas’s fans. He composed the singer’s beloved hit “El No Soy Yo”.
“Voy a quedarme”
“Voy a Quedarme” offers something totally different. This is a powerful ballad with a modern arrangement that showcases Blas’s vocal range. Once again, the team behind the song includes Leroy Sánchez. However, this time he is joined by Daniel Ortega (Dangelo) and Dan Hammond. Dangelo co-wrote the Blas hits “No Volveré” and “Complicado”. But he also did “Universo” — Spain’s ESC 2020 song — alongside Dan Hammond, who produced the song.

Once Destino Eurovision 2021 begins, the voting will close and will re-open after Blas has performed both songs. This second voting phase will only last a few minutes, but there won’t be any stop to the online voting.
Spain’s long-awaited Gala still has no date yet.

The lyrics are beautiful, and I am a sucker for songs with meaning, specially after everything Blas had to go through last year. I wish him the best of luck and I hope he delivers a great performance, I know he can!

The author of the article kindly informed me that “Memoria is an uptempo track all about making you sing and dance”, otherwise I’d never have noticed that. On the other hand “Voy a Quedarme” seems to deliver, at least.
“Voy a quedarme” reminds me of Switzerlands entry last year. It has a rather slow and calm progression until the final third of the song. But what’s odd is everyone loved Switzerlands song last year. But Blas’ song. Nah. Everyone is being salty af and y’all are going so hard at a song for absolutely no reason. Imagine comparing this to Switzerland’s song last year. That’s like comparing Walmart vs Chanel.
There is literally nothing that Voy a Quedarme has in common with Répondez-moi, apart for being a ballad. Actually I have a pretty strong connection to Spain since I lived there and I know that Spain has great music to offer. I really want Spain to do well in Eurovision, but I just know that these are not the songs that will bring that.
At this point Spain, just buy a Boris Milanov song. At least Eurofans will want to put that on their playlist unlike these two….
I’m probably the only one who actually likes both of them, quite a lot actually. Honestly, if I hadn’t read all these negative comments I would’ve thought that Spain’s going to do ok this year. But lol no apparently!

Out of the two it’s Voy a quedarme for me, but honestly Universo last year was really memorable and amazing that I was really looking forward to see what Spain would offer this year! Alas I only see another 22nd place this year, but maybe if Memoria underwent a revamp to get rid of some of the cheesiness (the lyrics are actually pretty good) that number might be higher, ojala que si!

Ummmm…I think both the songs will place worse than 20th in the grand final. If I really have to choose, the ballad is better to create some moments and maybe it will not place so bad in the final.
Neither song is bad, but very cliché Spanish pop offering no surprises at all. I’d say Voy a Quedarme has a slight edge over Memoria since it has at least something of a hook.
Both songs worse than Universo, and that song was a bottom 5 contender. Yikes. This is a background music i’m afraid. Filler that you hear on the radio and forget as soon as it ends.

I like the 2 songs,I ‘ve voted for “Voy a quedarme”. but for me no winning songs. I think Spain would have a better chance if they send the beautiful duet that Blas Cantó released a view weeks ago together with Nia, the last winner from Operacion Triunfo. in Spain. I think their song Curamé is very beautiful and much better than the 2 potential songs for Eurovision.
I do not get the negativity in this comment section. Neither they are winning songs, nor they are spectacular itself but both of them are listenable and not bad at all. Well, well, well… I knew this time would come. I never understood why Spain gave a second chance to this guy after the weak song he presented . But here we are again. It seems like with the ballad Blas still tries to copy Duncan. I’m nowhere near being Spanish, but these two songs are Spain’s best effort since Queen Ruth Lorenzo 2014 and Blas has the attitude to deliver 😀

I don’t think these songs are worse than Universo, …but they’re not better either. Universo is probably more televote friendly than these two but personally on first listen I think these two are better mostly because I think he’s putting more of his heart into it. Neither song is a good as last year. I’m afraid Spain is destined to come last in 2021 with Nul points. So sad, such a talented singer without a good song to sing.

Blas has a great voice range that the ballad shows off quite well. Sadly, I do not feel a connection to either song, which must be very worrying for Spain. The plus side is that Blas will wow the crowd if he is able to perform live, because of both his voice and his cuteness.

Im not too familiar of Blas’ ability to sing live–can he pull off all those falsetto notes in Memoria? it seems like it can go shreaky very quickly live–although maybe he gets saved if they layer in backing vocals

There are parts of Memoria that I really like. The more I listen to it, the more I think I’ll like it. Voy A Quedarme is solid but I don’t think it stands a chance of getting out of the bottom three though.

Memoria – simply because its upbeat, modern and the song title itself is understandable so it sells. It just need a good staging probably on the level of Germany’s in 2018 which had simple choreo but effective backdrop. Voy a quedarme sounds authentic but could easily be forgotten in the grand-finals.

I’d pick Voy a Quedarme, considering:
1. This is very, very jury friendly
2. It fits what Blas’ sound is like
3. Marvin Dietmann is a master at staging ballads
4. This has a big potential to flourish beautifully at the stage.
‘Memoria’ builds up and then… plop… falls flat. And whoever considers this uptempo, needs to check themselves. It’s pure pop. I’m just guessing around 95 beats per minute. Well produced, well executed, must admit though. But seems slower than Margaret’s ‘Tempo’ , and I wouldn’t even consider that uptempo. So in my opinion didn’t live to the hype. Disappointing to see this hate in the comments. With the right staging, Memoria could be top 15. Maybe also Voy A Quedarme. Neither of these are bottom 5.
People disliking these two songs, and people being disappointed because they expected better, doesn’t equate to hate.

Eurofans usually overrates Spain, but when Spain actually has a song which could potentially do well with good staging and a good performance, the same people underrate their song.
I’m Spanish and my worst fear has come true, none of the songs are going to get a good result, “Voy a quedarme” may sneak into the top 20 which would be an accomplishment already. I just can’t understand how Blas and his team are not realizing that these type of bland songs do not stand out in ESC. He had 10 months to come up with something better. It is specially frustrating because Blas has really nice songs that could do well in ESC. Now I really don’t care if we end up last, because we really deserve it.
It sucks to feel that way as a fan and as someone wanting your country/representative to do well for a change 🙁 You’re totally right though, some of his other songs are much better than these two, so it must be even more disappointing for Spanish fans who will have expected so much from the 10 month head start given to Blas Canto’s team since 2020 was cancelled.

Both of these are wonderful, and complement his voice quite well, but Voy a Quedarme is just, when he sings it, its just beautiful and I think with the right staging, could land him in the top fifteen for sure. Staging will be key, but if Spain can pull something off dramatic in the style of Ruth Lorenzo, Pastora Soler, or a more engaging Tu Cancion, this will be incredible! Strange to think that The Roop produced Discoteque in the same amount of time it took Blas Canto’s team to produce these two songs. Gives me the same vibes as watching Utica turn a sleeping bag into a high fasion gown in the same amount of time it took LaLa Ri to glue 15 paper bags to a corset.

Good for Blas for choosing songs that show how talented he is as a singing rather than just conforming to the usual Spanish stereotype. He won’t win, but I would be proud if I were Spanish as these are respectable pieces 🙂
Voy a Quedarme would be the best choice. None of these two will win, but Voy a Quedarme has the potential to be 11th for example. With good staging and a good performance, juries will definitely like it. Songwise, Voy a Quedarme gives me Light & Shadows by O’G3NE (Netherlands 2017) vibes, but Blas sings solo and sings in Spanish.

As I already said, song vibe wise, Voy a Quedarme is basically Lights & Shadows: Spain would get an estimated 90 < x > 150 jury points and something as 40 or lower with the televote points.

I really like Voy a quedarme. Memoria seemd to repetitive to me. Voy a quedarme is much better in my opinion. Love the instruments and it does not sound like it’s continually repeating itself.
