Dotter was a huge fan favourite at Melodifestivalen 2020. “Bulletproof” was widely popular and came within a point of winning last year’s competition. Fortunately for her fans, she is back and aiming to go one step further this year. Her song may be called “Little Tot” but she aims to deliver a big message about the future.

Melodifestivalen 2021: Dotter “Little Tot”
Dotter performed in the second semi-final last year and will do so again in 2021. This time around, she closes the show. “Little Tot” marks Dotter’s third Melfest appearance since debuting in 2018 with “Cry”. She has also been credited as a songwriter on two other occasions — Mariette’s “A Million Years” in 2017 and Lina Hedlund’s “Victorious” in 2019.
Dotter has been involved in the writing process of both her previous Melfest entries. This year is no exception — Dotter joined forces with fiancé Dino Medanhodzic to pen “Little Tot”. Medanhodzic’s wrote two Melfest entries last year — “Bulletproof” and Victor Crone’s “Troubled Waters”.
What do the “Little Tot” lyrics mean?
“Little Tot” is a message directed to the next generation. The song title means “little toddler” and Dotter wants to tell children that they don’t want to be like us when they grow up. She thinks we need to be aware of our egos and the next generation should learn from our mistakes.
Talking about “Little Tot”, Dotter says: “My song is about becoming more aware of their ego. This will be maybe even more fun than last year. When viewers see my number, they will probably think it is very maxed out.”
“Little Tot” lyrics — Dotter (Melfest 2021)
Little tot
When you grow up
Sort out what’s right
You don’t wanna be like us
We’re gonna run
From each other
Cause we need to find the answers in our lives
We’re gonna run
Like no other
And we seek for a new chapter of our lives
I never ever said that we
Shouldn’t go on
You never know
Oh you never know
Little tot when you grow up
Sort out what’s right
You don’t wanna be like us
When the pride surrounds our minds
We’ll hit and run
You don’t wanna be like us
You don’t, you don’t, you don’t
You don’t wanna be like us
You don’t, you don’t, you don’t,
You don’t wanna be like us
We’re gonna find
A new future
Though we think we’re being protective of our lives
We’re gonna hide
Like we’re losers
Cause we’ve lost another second of our lives
I never ever said that we
Shouldn’t go on
You never know
Oh you never know
Little tot when you grow up
Sort out what’s right
You don’t wanna be like us
When the pride surrounds our minds
We’ll hit and run
You don’t wanna be like us
You don’t, you don’t, you don’t
You don’t wanna be like us
You don’t, you don’t, you don’t,
You don’t wanna be like us
Little tot when you grow up
You don’t, you don’t, you don’t
You don’t wanna be like us
Little tot when you grow up
Sort out what’s right
You don’t wanna be like us
When the pride surrounds our minds
We’ll hit and run
You don’t wanna be like us
You don’t, you don’t, you don’t
You don’t wanna be like us
Little tot when you grow up
Sort out what’s right
You don’t wanna be like us
When the pride surrounds our minds
We’ll hit and run
You don’t wanna be like us

I will sing this song to my future children.. very well lyrics, very well song.. Good Luck Dotter!
Now I’ve seen the performance, it all makes sense. The idolizing of the pop star, the style over substance, the darkness within all of us.
So self-reflective, love it, amazing work Dotter!
Little Tot, you indeed do not want to be like us!
Another big mistake if Sweden chooses this zzzz….
The lyrics seem so vague. What is she talking about, really? The environment? Cancel culture? Politics? Could be anything
probably everything…
There is no cancel culture
How do you reconcile the claim “there is no cancel culture” with the fact that no-platforming is becoming ever more prevalent? According to a Telegraph article dated 20th Feb 2021 – “There have been 21 occasions at Russell Group institutions which saw speakers banned outright or pressured into withdrawing from events”
I must say the title really kept my interest up ever since it was announced. It is a very peculiar title! But reading the lyrics and hearing the song it makes sense why its called that. Dotter sure knows how to create buzz around songs..
Boring, uninspiring, unoriginal. Just like Bulletproof.
Tell me other ESC songs about a parent telling their kids to not be like them…i don’t find it that unoriginal to be honest…
Man,the speed of downvotes for anything remotely postitve about Sweden or Dotter is amazing. Just as amzing as those quick to downvote anything negative about Dotter, maybe next year there will only be downvotes..
Very unpopular opinion – but you are absolulety right !
Am i missing something ? Dotter song sounds so basic to me, i enjoyed Bulletproof tough
everyone is saying “little tot” reminds them of different things but as an american i keep thinking about tater tots
Apologies for the obscure 90s reference, but does anyone else think of “le sac Magique” whenever they read this song title?
Now that was an awesome TV show.
When I first read “Little Tot” I thought Tot referred to the German word for death.
Ok, thanks. Sort of ruins my theory.
Little Tod would be an amusing title though.
Indeed, that was my thinking.
I keep misreading the title as ‘Little Thot’
That’s what I always think when I hear this song. Makes me giggle lol
I was just about to say the same thing! Omg
I don’t get the hype. Very repetitive, bland song. Nothing interesting.
finally someone talking sense
Yes, thank you, someone sensible, to me it’s just average
we literally only have a 1 minute snippet. it doesnt have any time to be repetitive
#Dotterdam2021
Hoo Hoo and hair flips haha
The best song by far in MF 2021 so far. Really love it.
