Just hours before the opening credits roll on the fifth and final semi-final of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2021, we can reveal the act that our readers are backing — IMERIKA with “I Can’t Escape”.
IMERIKA is your favourite to win semi-final five of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix
After counting a total of 967 votes, we can confirm that IMERIKA is the clear favourite in tonight’s semi. “I Can’t Escape” picked up 566 votes, which amounts to a massive 58.53% of all votes cast. IMERIKA is also soaring high with the bookies. She’s been trading at odds of 1.33 throughout the week.
Erika Dahlen already has a presence in MGP – she’s one of the songwriters on “Feel Again”, by directly qualified act Kaja Rode. Erika previously studied at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts and now performs under the name IMERIKA. Her MGP entry “I Can’t Escape” looks at the struggles of moving on after a break-up. She says, “It felt right to participate with this song, and it is an interesting mismatch with me on this MGP stage.”
Pop-country group RIVER come a distant second. “Coming Home” attracted 221 votes or 22.85% of all votes cast. The gap widens significantly after the top two. Ane.Fin is third with 97 votes or 10.03% of all votes cast. The farmyard trio TuVeia managed to take 83 votes or 8.58% of all votes cast.
