After the heartfelt ballad “Grow”, many Eurovision fans have been looking forward to the 2021 entry from the Netherlands’ hope Jeangu Macrooy.

While the Dutch have revealed lots of information about the contest in May, it’s been sometime since we’ve heard anything about their entry. Commentator Cornald Maas has broken the silence by revealing that Jeangu’s song will be released in early March.

Jeangu Macrooy’s Eurovision 2021 song to be released in early March

The early March reveal keeps with tradition. In previous years, the Dutch songs typically dropped around this time period. Maas shared the tidbit during an appearance on the RTL morning talk show Koffietijd. He says:

“I have a lot of appreciation for Jeangu and his team for how they dealt with the situation. A year ago, it was cancelled and he was immediately reselected to represent us and that was justified, I found. That you give him another chance for taking part after missing the contest then.

But at the same time, you go into it the contest less uninhibitedly, because you know you have to deliver a song that is suitable. You are already the artist. Meanwhile, you also have to do it in a time that is not really inspiring. Corona, lockdown, you get to know less new things, but [Jeangu] is miraculously succeeding in that mission. “

Cornald also spoke briefly the different scenarios facing Eurovision. He confirmed that Eurovision 2021 Executive Producer Sietse Bakker will make a decision “very soon”. Personally, Maas hopes that all artist will get to travel to Rotterdam. He said:

“I hope that they’ll choose that for what they want here in the Netherlands with regards to the scenario. That at least all the artists will be able to travel here and be safe within a bubble to perform their entries. I don’t hope that the EBU will decide, because there is such a chance, that delegations have to stay at home. Then almost nothing is left of it. You will still get good television, but you have the experience anymore. But then you are also the real competitive element that people perform [in Rotterdam]. In that case, you will get “canned” recordings, namely the back-up videos.”

Jeangu Macrooy’s journey to Eurovision

In March 2020, the Netherlands became one of the first countries to reselect their Eurovision 2020 act for the contest in 2021. With “Grow” last year, Jeangu wanted to create a moment. The ballad about sharing your struggles with others was planned to be staged in a very thoughtful way. In May last year, Jeangu told our William that:

“It was going to start very intimate and very small — as if you’re sitting in the room with me while I was writing it the first time. But also the end is quite euphoric and hopeful. So, that was going to be a steady growth in the way the visuals developed and I wanted really the end to be this explosion of optimism and hope”.

As the Netherlands is the host country for the 2021 contest, Jeangu will only appear in the final Last November, it was determined that he will perform in 23rd position.

What are you expecting from Jeangu Macrooy’s Eurovision 2021 song? Do you think it will resemble “Grow”? Or do you think it will be something different? Let us know in the comments down below.

Duncan’s on the move again! Arcade has risen 6 spots to #33 on the UK chart, and today it’s entered the Billboard Hot 100 in Canada at #61!
