Blind Channel UMK 2021

Finland’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2021 takes place on Saturday, with the country set to select their act for Eurovision 2021. Seven acts will be taking to the stage, including defending champion Aksel Kankaanraanta and two-time Estonian Eurovision representative Laura Põldvere. The other acts competing for the trophy are OSKR, Teflon Brothers & Pandora, Danny, Blind Channel and Ilta.

Ahead of the show, we asked our readers to vote for their favourites. And the results are in!

Blind Channel are your favourites to win UMK 2021

We counted a total of 3,577 votes in our poll. Blind Channel emerged as the clear winners with their song “Dark Side”. The band amassed 1,243 votes – that’s 34.75% of all the votes cast.

Blind Channel have been around since 2013, but the current formation welcomed its latest member in autumn. Their line-up for UMK consists of Joel Hokka, Niko Vilhelm, Joonas Porko, Olli Matela, Tommi Lalli and Aleksi Kaunisvesi.

The group have performed at some of the world’s most famous heavy metal festivals, including Germany’s Wacken Open Air. They received an EMMA (Finland’s answer to the Grammys) nomination in 2018 for ‘Rock Album of the Year’.

Coming in second are the Teflon Brothers and Pandora. Their “I love you” won over 25.52% of our readers, and received 912 votes.

Rounding out the top three is last year’s UMK winner Aksel, whose ballad “Hurt” moved 450 readers (12.58%).

Aksel is closely followed by Ilta, who gathered 433 votes (12.11%) and finished in fourth place with “Kelle mä soitan”.

Eurovision alum Laura didn’t quite impress our readers, as she only managed to come sixth with 4.47% of the votes.

  1. Blind Channel – “Dark side” – 34.75%  (1,243 votes)
  2. Teflon Brothers & Pandora – “I love you” – 25.52%  (913 votes)

If everything goes well I’ll be voting for Blind channel tonight. Also so excited to see Antti and Erika opening the show! It’s going to be iconic!

the top 3 will be Blind Channel, Brothers/Pandor and Ilta.

I think Blind Channel will win both televoting and juries, but i am also rooting for Pandora/Brothers!

I still think that Finland picking Laura and Estonia picking Koit would be the funniest thing ever. Like:
“It was your fault we didn’t qualify with Verona! You looked like you wanted to kill someone!”
“No, it was you and your disfuntional mic!”
Let’s duel!

ESC fans, dont be mad if we (Finland) dont choose “Dark Side”
It is our decision(+juries). (Actually I hope that some other countries in semi 2 choose weaker songs, so that Finland can go to the Grand Final)
Its possible that Blind Channel will flop live.

Teflon Brothers can win the Televote and have support from the Juries in Rotterdam.
Alex will have a result good enough from the Juries and the Audience to pass to the Final if selected.
The Dark Side is like the teenage emo phase of the hard rock songs. Not too much meaning and that “A-ah-A-ah” in the middle of the chorus is bad. If they go with that, they will have a Hungary 2018 result (at best). Its a bad middle 2000’s pop-rock song from Avril or Pink.

That is not “A-ah-A-ah”, Its part of the sentence, “I’m living that life on the dark side”. These guys repeat “I’m” two more times in order to make everyone pay attention to their song, which is delicate to the people who felt being excluded and unworthy according to the previous article

I highly doubt that Teflon Brothers can wil the international juries tonight but also in Rotterdam.

Blind Channel will have a safe performance for a rock song and let’s not kid ourselves, Finns love rock songs.
