Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021: Competing songs

Chief 1 & Thomas Buttenschøn – “Højt over skyerne”

Chief 1 & Thomas Buttenschøn channel legendary pop groups like The Supremes, The Foundations and The Chiffons with this 1960s-inspired pop track. Does “Højt over skyerne” get your vote?

Claudia Campagnol – “Abracadabra”

Abracadabra, alakazam. Claudia Campagnol sings a sweet soaring melody above gentle piano chords on this magical track. Is “Abracadabra” your favourite?

Emma Nicoline – “Står lige her”

Emma Nicoline’s dark electro-pop track features powerful beats and catchy riffs. Is “Står lige her” your favourite?

Fyr & Flamme – “Øve os på hinanden”

With a sing-a-long melody and synths galore, Fyr og Flamme fuse 1960s and 1980s pop with “Øve os på hinanden”. They’re one of the bookmaker’s favourites to win DMGP this year. Should this be Denmark’s song for Rotterdam?

Jean Michel – “Beautiful”

Jean Michel appeared on the fifth season of The X Factor Denmark in 2012 alongside singing partner Nicoline Simone. Now, he’s competing in DMGP as a solo artist with this uplifting pop track. Does “Beautiful” get your vote?

Mike Tramp – “Everything Is Alright”

Mike Tramp represented Denmark at Eurovision in 1978 as part of the band Mabel with “Boom Boom”. Since then, he’s had an extremely successful career as a member of many bands and as a solo artist. More than 40 years later, he wants to go back to Eurovision for Denmark. Is “Everything Is Alright” your favourite?

The Cosmic Twins – “Silver Bullet”

The Cosmic Twins — identical twin brothers Chris and Alec — serve dark synths and saxophone riffs on their Europop song “Silver Bullet”. Should this be Denmark’s song for Rotterdam?

Nanna Olivia – “Hvileløse hjerter”

Nanna Olivia says her breezy pop track “Hvileløse hjerter” is about learning to move on from a broken heart. It’s a message that could resonate with a lot of listeners. Does she get your vote?

This is a very uninteresting national final. I must say that I probably enjoy Fyr og Flamme most, even though they do take me back all the way to HotEyes. And I kinda like Nanna Olivia who gives me slight Malene Mortensen vibes (I hope she’s better at keeping her nerves under control).

The Cosmic Twins by miles. It was my fav in the selection but I didn’t pay much attention at first but now wooow. Oh and that saxo takes me back to summer and other epic songs such as “Midnight City”. It’s powerful. Could be epic on stage!!

The Cosmic Twins or Emma.
With the other contestants Denmark will be a NQ even in the weakest semi.

Those are also my two favorites too, but I wouldn’t be too upset if someone else won. I am so disinterested in Denmark this year.

Emma and cosmic twins were my two favorite, but let’s be honest, I don’t really care much for this national final. Whatever song Denmark pics, it might be at risk for elimination anyway.

Even if a song in Danish wins, they’ll most likely change it into English because the Nordic countries seem to hate their own languages! They might as well change their official languages to English!

MGP Denmark has an official rule about languages being sent to Eurovision in English. The Danes are aware of how their own language often sounds, haha.

For me Emma Nicoline’s song sounds the most contemporary. That’s actually the only song I think that will be likely to qualify. 🙂

I think this is a really strong selection. Fyr og Flamme is an obvious stand out, they are my number 1 pick. But Chief 1 & Thomas Buttenschøn and Emma Nicoline would be great choices as well. Denmark might very well be on their way to yet another unexpected left-side-of-the-scoreboard-placement.

Emma Nicoline and Fyr og Flamme for the win please. At least we’ll get Danish and at least they are both somewhat current and respectable, Nanna Olivia’s song is also nice. All other songs are hm..

but still #justiceforbenandtan

i legit don’t like any of those songs, so i hope they send something in danish for the sake of hearing the language at esc. i don’t get the love for the cosmic twins, their song would’ve sounded mediocre in 2010 where it belongs.

I think “Star Lige Her” speaks the most to me. It’s not that innovative but at least listenable. “Abracadabra” is also very enjoyable and perhaps the one with the most quality out of this pack. I’m not that keen about “Silver Bullets” though. As for now I don’t really like it that much – I think it’s a bit plain, but let’s see how the live performances will be. With this overall quality I think the winner will be the one act who stands out with the live-singing and choreography because I don’t feel that there is a big gap… Read more »

It’s hilarious how obviously low-effort the line-up is. Good chances Denmark won’t qualify with any of these songs

It’s Fyr & Flamme for me. The first impression is deceiving. What seems to be a tune emerged from the 80ies, is actually exceptionally current.

Despite the fact that Denmark have done Ben & Tan dirty, I do keep playing Fyr & Flamme’s song over and over again. I have no idea how well it would do at Eurovision because there have been a number of 80’s inspired songs in selections so far and the staging of them hasn’t been great. Just because you have an 80s inspired song doesn’t mean you have to have an 80s inspired aesthetic 🙂

Silver Bullet by The Cosmic Twins stands out in a good way. I could see them qualifying and if picked, Denmark would likely have a respectable spot on my list. I also like Emma with Står lige her and Øve os på hindanen by Fyr & Flamme. However, I am skeptical that Denmark would translate them to English afterwards, which means that we don’t even know how the final product sounds like. And if by any chance the Danish song would win and stayed the same, possible NQ would just become a pretext for “that is why we never send… Read more »

If they were to translate them it would be because of the broadcaster, I think both Nicoline and Fyr og Flamme are in favour of performing in Danish

Voted for Chief 1 and Thomas,
off topic but still no news about Australia, Armenia, Belgium, Romania, Malta, Russia, Georgia, Poland, it’s very strange to still be quiet at this moment of the year because it remains few days before the deadline. No reveal dates, no song’s titles, no clues about songs, and for Armenia and Russia we don’t even know the artists.

Maybe those acts, particularly Little Big, recorded songs in private, but I am suspicious about my 2020 fave Athena, desperate for the role, with the loudest fans, stuck on the Rivera, with little evidence of a forthcoming trip to Yerevan (where she hasn’t been in the 345 days since the show was canned), with a need for indirect flights and/or quarantine to get there, with several promises for news soon that doesn’t come (such as after Kids’ ESC, late Jan, Feb 10) with Armenia having NEVER done an act selection this late before aside from the 2012 episode, and with… Read more »

I should because I feel too outspoken about a matter as trivial as this, from a country at the other end of the continent to me, that we usually only vote for in heats, that I have no ethnic or religious links to, because of loving a singular song and developing a Little Mix-esque crush due to it.

My favourite is FYR & FLAMME – “ØVE OS PÅ HINANDEN”, it reminds me of 80’s.
If it wins, I hope they won’t translate it into English.

Honestly, I just don’t feel strongly enough about any of them to really urge Denmark to go in any particular direction. Fyr And Flamme is probably the type of music I like the most, “Højt Over skyerne” is the most fun, Emma’s is a very basic version of something that would have the most mass appeal and Mike Tramp’s seems the most professional.I don’t think any of these get out of the SF at Eurovision so Denmark should just pick whatever they enjoy the most and not worry about the result.

Emma. But nearly all the rest are bland, basic, outdated, and frankly incredibly boring. There is no way that Denmark will be qualifying.

I’m really enjoying Denmark’s selection this year. Three of these have instantly got onto my favourites playlists and there is nothing wrong with the others.

My favourite three are Silver Bullet, Star Lige Her and Abracadabra.

Honestly I could not care less. All of them are non-qualifiers. It is also very sad the way they treated Ben and Tan.
