She released her eagerly awaited Eurovision 2021 entry for Cyprus on Wednesday. And almost immediately, Elena Tsaginou found herself caught in a web of pop drama involving the Swedish star Zara Larsson. By Thursday, other players had entered the fray including internet personality Mia Khalifa and British singer Alice Chater.
First to Zara.
Zara Larsson clarifies her position on “El Diablo”
It all began when the woman behind international smashes such as “Lush Life”, “Never Forget You” and “Ruin My Life” took to Twitter to share her view on Elena’s new release. Quote tweeting the official Eurovision account’s “El Diablo” announcement, Zara writes: “Let me call my girl Mia Khalifa real quick”.
Back in July 2020, Zara had a bit of an online spat with Mia Khalifa, a pornstar turned media personality. Then Mia accused the Swede of being “sad trash” and “unoriginal”, claiming that Zara’s “Love Me Land” music video was too similar to that for Alice Chater’s “Hourglass”. The tit for tat continued when Zara thanked Mia for the free promo. Mia soon retracted her original comments and apologised.
The internet quickly set to work on discovering the meaning behind Zara’s tweet. Was it a joke? Or was Zara pulling a Mia Khalifa herself? Later in the day, she followed up by saying “I am not and personally would never be upset at anything like this. It’s flattering and I’m f***ing obsessed with ESC. Excited to see it honestly”. She signed off with the two hearts emoji.
However, that tweet was soon deleted. Before it was removed, Twitter user @sillyolddaniel replied saying: “Zara that’s very gracious of you but this is absolutely outrageous!!”. In response, Zara wrote “I meaaaannnnn…… I’m just not bothered lol”. An account going by @lovemeland commented “yep you were joking”. To which the popstar wrote “Obviously”. Before the evening was out, she tweeted “ITS ALL LOVE” and “Don’t be mean plz”.
I meaaaannnnn…… I’m just not bothered lol

Mia Khalifa and Alice Chater comment on Cyprus 2021
The other players from the July 2020 spat also shared their two cents. Mia Khalifa retweeted Zara and sent two tweets of her own. The first said “I just love how @AliChater’s YouTube is a Pinterest board for so many people”. A gif taken from Chater’s “Wonderland (My Name Is Alice)” was attached. The second tweet quoted Zara’s first tweet, adding “I’ll be on the sidelines tweeting while you and @AliChater are picking out your court outfits for this robbery”. Khalifa also made a collage comparing “El Diablo” and Alice Chater’s work on her Instagram stories.

At the time of writing, Alice Chater has had the last word. Reposting Khalifa’s tweet to her Instagram story, Chater says “I can’t breathe hahahahahahaha (btw I love zara and I love mia but I will never love eurovision I’m sorry guys hhahaha)”.
What do you think of the drama? Let us know below.
Zara made a joke about it and can’t be bothered honestly… However the music video looks exactly the same. This is rediculous. Alice and Mia are rediculous too. They should just be quiet!
Some songs are pretty original like Ukraine or Lithuania
Alice who?
Well when artists are just focused on making generic bland pop songs with trash video clips, the risk of plagiarism is high …
mabye we could all just accept that no one owns the idea of a rhinestone bodysuit and a dark set
zara larson is past her time. she’s just trying to stay relevant and needs to stay in 2016. look at all her old songs they get hundreds of millions of views and now all her songs flop. i don’t understand them crying plagiarism when they literally plagiarize other artists. hypocrites
sooo does Zara love Eurovision or not?
WHo the F is Alice Chater? We don’t like her or even know her either, she wishes to be on a 200m TV show.
Fact is there’s no copyright on the visuals of a music video. So, suggesting they’re going to courts for this matter is simply ridiculous.
Can you cite authority for that? Because, in accordance, with Infopaq the spectrum is quite broad.
Fight each other b*tches while queen Elena stays away from this misery #tea
your momma
Thanks for the promotion girls! Love from Cyprus #eldiablo
Who is this girl? Alice… what? I’m completely honest if I say I didn’t know her. I’m not interested in divas though.
This song is a mess, chorus melody just like Rita Ora’s “Anywhere” hit. Then the video issue. .. And don’t forget the cheesy use of Spanish words.
That’s the main problem for me, if you don’t speak a language, don’t use a stereotypical word from that language to give it a super marvelous diva touch
Haha i really love this drama!! Finally something happens regarding ESC
and what about Tix drama
It’s funny how Alice Chater gets involved into this “plagiarism” drama when her song “Thief” is a cheap ripoff of Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time”. Someone’s seeking for attention.
Zara Larrson has to be one of the most annoying celebrities out there. She’s always dropping her two cents into random drama *cough cough James Charles drama* and saying outrageous stuff (called herself a man hater) just to stay relevant. Get over yourself
In what world is this a random drama when Cyprus makes a music video that looks exactly the same. She didn’t clap back as she had all the rights to do, she just made a joke about it and she honestly can’t be bothered with it…
That is so complicated for my little head…
Well Alice, you might need eurovision in the future cause i dont see you being relevant otherwise. #tea
So this is turning into a public stunt for zara alice and mia in order to stay relevant in the sites and the drama channels.
Who is Alice Hourglass?
Isn’t anyone going to talk about the Eurovision official account reposting Mia Khalifa’s instastory? Maybe I am wrong and it wasn’t the official account. If it isn’t, then is was wiwibloggs’ (because those are the only Eurovision content accounts I follow), but I doubt that because whoever reposted it deleted it later and don’t see why wiwibloggs would do that when they actually write articles about it like the one we’re reading.
That would be insanely funny tbh
I don’t feel hate
All these nobodies must be loving their names getting mentioned lol
Elena sure loves the attention
Do you call artists with billions of streams nobodies compared to artists participating in Eurovision who are not even known outside their own country?
Your esc stan thing is starting to be awkward.
I know this may come as a shocker to you, but this is a Eurovision-related site. If you want to fangirl personalities that are not about Eurovision, there are other forums for that.
you all are very cringy when you cant look at this obejectively. Zara litarlly said she is not bothered and that she loves ESC and for that she get a bunch of crap??? This just showing what i have felt the last weeks on this site, very mean People in the comments looking for faults in everything. Thats very sad, you are not making ESC looking good.
I Can Not Be Bothered
Who cares what Larsson is thinking about Eurovision songs? She made it clear that she has no interest in Eurovision at all
Honestly, I’ve never heard of Alice Chater. Apparently, she has no top 40 singles in her home country so very few other people have heard of her either.
Guess the real headline here should be “British person doesn’t like Eurovision” but that wouldn’t exactly be news now, would it? 😉
I’m British, I didn’t know who she was until last month, she’s never charted here before
They know exactly what they are doing. Drama sadly is the best marketing tool these days…
Alice who?
Some songwriter endorsed by Jade Thirlwall and Professor Green
Jade who? Professor who?
I’m sure you know Jade Thirlwall from Little Mix (you surely know who they are) who follows Foureira and James Newman on Instagram and is a Rupaul’s drag race super fan.
Professor Green is British rapper who had a major hit with the deeply personal Read All About It in 2011 (listen to it, it’s fantastic) written with the same Iain James who wrote the far less profound Running Scared a few months earlier. He also had regular collaborations with My Last Breath co writer Ed Drewett.
I don’t know who Little Mix are. I’m assuming they’re a band.
A great girl group who have had hit singles every year since they formed as X Factor UK winners in 2011. They have had a UK top 10 single every year since they were formed (11 years in a row now) with 5 at number 1, and 6 UK top 5 and worldwide top 10 albums, and have done arena tours in Europe and South east Asia, and even had a US top 5 album at one point.
boff
Thanks for telling me who they are. I’m from America and had never heard of them. They must be more of a Europe/Asia phenomenon, I guess. I’m glad they’re successful and a lot of people like them. 🙂
They’re pretty well-known in this continent, not just europe or asia
Who the hell are all these people? Apart from Mia Khalifa, I had never heard of any of them before. They must be loving all this petty attention they’re getting from wiwibloggs. Wiwibloggs, how about you focus on the contest itself and stop writing about people that have nothing to do with it?
“apart from Mia Khalifa” lmao love it
let’s wait until we find out that Panik Records and Head and Shoulders paid Zara, Alice and Mia to promote Elena:)
also, celebrities being uppity and bashing eurovision, what’s new
Why does wiwibloggs keep putting out articles about these randos? This is only tangentially related to Eurovision. Are these nobodies paying you to write about them?
wow you DO hate germany a lot, don’t you?
It’s great fun. We love us some good tea.
Why is the guy a bad rando? If you don’t like his song it doesn’t entitle you to call him that.
Click bait
Bad move from Cyprus!
It’s free promo haha
Just FYI, Mia has stated several times she doesn’t want to be associated with her past anymore so maybe you should change how you tagged her in this post.
she’s being mean tho
Maybe she should’ve thought about that before she decided to swallow peen for a living.
bruh….wjoevee this Alice chapter chick is she needs to stfu. bet she’s never even watched eurovision because anyone who genuinely takes time to watch will be hooked. all this is kinda giving eurovision bad press it’s making me upset 🙁
A bunch of nobodies creating fake drama over a Eurovision entrant’s video. How low we have sunk! Seriously, two of these people are complete unknowns and Zara Larson is hardly A list.
mia khalifa if not unknown lmao.
Zara was just joking, as a Swede at least i understand the sarcasm behind it, but many people doesn’t really seem to understand that type of humor.
Of course she did not take any offense, it would’ve been worse if the girl had stolen the song, then I think the headlines would have been even bigger.
yeah Zara thinks nothing of it and she actually loves esc unlike Alice haha, but what can we expect from a British artist
this is all so strange lmao, wtf is going on
kinda things really make this song way popular. good job, Cyprus
this is just……really weird honestly
she has an album out next week and she hasn’t had a hit since ruin my life three years ago, any slight media attention is good for her.
She closed the MTV EMAs last November. Also Little Mix’s song Sweet Melody was intended for her but passed onto them (it was written by her Never Forget You collaborator) and she performed on LM’s The Search.
It is disappointing that Alice says she would never do ESC though, when she has ties with Jade Thirlwall, and several musicians who like James Newman insta comments including related to ESC, such as Professor Green (yes, Read All About It and Running Scared DID have the same producer!)
She literally had a hit last year with « Wow » lol
chart peaks:
#27 sweden
#95 ireland
looks like a flop
Can you also look up Elenas chart peaks pls?
