27 February Eurovision Schedule

Sandwiched in between the two busiest weekends of the season, this Saturday sees us enter something of a lull in the national final calendar. Tonight fans will have three shows to choose from and we’ll finish the night with one more Eurovision 2021 entry to add to our Rotterdam playlist.

Here are all the details you need for 2021’s seventh Saturday of national selections. We’ll be checking in with semi-finals in Portugal and Sweden while Slovenia will reveal its 2021 song in a special edition of EMA. You can follow all the results on wiwibloggs (and via our Twitter: @wiwibloggs and Instagram: wiwibloggs) throughout the evening. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening, when it’s on and how to watch.

Saturday 27 February: Eurovision 2021 Selection Shows

Slovenia’s EMA 2021

Song reveal

Time: 20:00 CET to 21:10 CET

The original plan was to use EMA 2021 as a national final to select Ana Soklič’s song from a small shortlist. But, due to the pandemic, the show will now be used to premiere Ana’s song for Rotterdam. As well, it will cover Ana’s preparations for both EMA and Eurovision. The special will also commemorate Slovenia’s 60th anniversary of its first appearance at Eurovision.

Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2021

Semi-Final 4

Time: 20:00 CET to 21:30 CET

Melodifestivalen 2021 continues with semi-final four. Tonight’s big prize will be two spots in the grand final for the top acts, with the next two getting passes to Andra Chansen. The remaining three will be eliminated. This third semi features names like The Mamas and Eric Saade.

Semi-Final Two

Time: 22:07 CET to 01:00 CET

Portugal’s Festival da Canção 2021 returns for its second semi-final. And once again it’s an eclectic mix. Tonight will see ten acts compete for five places in the final. They’ll join the five qualifiers from last week.

Feel a bit sad for Graciela – really enjoyed the song and her performance tonight. My other 4 got through so happy days!

I dare to say no performance in FdC left me more satisfied than Graciela’s. But this semi had already some established favorites, so it was hard for her to break through.

Really a rare occasion when my top 5, top 5 of the prediction poll and actual 5 qualifiers are one and the same. Congrats, everyone! Also, good job Taina, Ariana and Graciela. 🙂

No surprises: Deslandes, EU.CLIDES, Joana, Pedro and Neev are in the final of FdC.

It was great to see the beautiful Lúcia Moniz singing in FdC, “O Meu Coração Não Tem Cor” is one of my favorite Portuguese entries.

My overall favourite – please tell me, what did she say after her performance? I definitely heard the word Oslo.

I only got a piece of that, but she was talking about her experience and how someone of her team (the head of delegation maybe?) was saying that she should focus on enjoying the occasion and not put much attention on the fact there was a contest going on. She was very positive about her Eurovision experience.

Tibor is probably sleeping with his belly full of home-made cookies, but he would be glad to hear that I boarded Graciela’s train. That was a cool performance.

Deslandes and Neev will qualify, I would like if Graciela, Joana and one between Tainá, EU.CLIDES and Pedro join them.

A good show overall. I think that Neev won this for me (gave me shivers), but Carolina was also really emotional (and I liked black and white aesthetics). I quite liked Joana and Pedro too. I actually didn’t mind EU.CLIDES sitting the whole time, as the song is really minimalist and hypnotic. I hope he qualifies. The most pleasant surprise for me was Ariana, but I’m not sure if the song is strong enough to qualify from a semi this strong. Actually, I think I liked 8 songs from this semi.

PS. Yeah, Taina was quite sweet too. I like her Brazilian accent. I am just afraid that in a voting for a minimalist female ballad in Portuguese, Carolina has a bit stronger case. But I did like both.

I’m afraid Neev hasn’t the same effect on me, though I partially blame the lousy camerawork. The problem is that if they take a page from Duncan’s playbook, the performance will end up too similar, it’s not an easy year to have a cute guy singing an emotional song while playing in a piano without comparisons.

I also liked the b&w aesthetics in Carolina’s performance, but her outfit was quite ugly, I hope she changes it for the final.

And I guess we agree about Ariana, she’s a very charming performer. Too bad the song does nothing for me.

I definitely see similarities between Duncan and Neev, but I guess I really fall for that style when done right. If that was a duel, I guess that Duncan would give me *even bigger* shivers, but they are not competing each other, so… I think that Neev would still stand out big-time, with Blas being his only possible competitor this year (so far, but we’ll see). 😉 Yeah, Carolina’s outfit wasn’t flattering at all, especially not the bottom part of the dress. She promised a big 60s diva dress in the interview and I’m afraid that wasn’t it. Still, she… Read more »

Believe it or not, I just got moderated for the second time in a row. I just hope that the comment below appears as fast as my upper one (that’s why the second post was moderated to compliment Taina. It’s because it would’ve been repetitive when both appeared). 🙂

In short – I guess I like the ”emotional piano ballad” style and yes, Carolina’s dress wasn’t the best, to put it nicely. 🙂

I’m more a “emotional guitar ballad” kind of girl, but you know “Arcade” was one of my favorites, so this is definitely not a problem to me.

And you’re right about Tainá, competing in the same lane as Carolina is complicated. I’ve also noticed on Youtube comments that some Portuguese are not fond of the idea of having the Brazilian accent in the contest. Anyway, I look for her music, because her voice is delightful. Hopefully she and Gaia (the half-Brazilian representative in Sanremo) will get some attention here soon.

Speaking of that green suit, do you know how did Fabia Maia qualify last week? Sure, she did well vocally, but in a big group of slow female ballads in Portuguese, hers is arguably the one with least progression and variation.

If another slow ballad had to go through, I’d pick Irma instead. Not to mention that it should have been mema.

I would put mema, Miguel and Irma ahead of her without thinking twice. I would even go with Tibor’s muse IAN.

Meanwhile, in Portugal… half the songs were already performed and I wonder if EU.CLIDES may be punished by jury and audience after spending the whole performance sitting on a chair. Joana Alegre did a great job, I think she’s in. I hope there’s still a chance for Tainá, but I would like to read an un-biased opinion about her performance.

I think this was the best semi final from Sweden The Mamas or Eric for the winning ticket. I was shocked Tess came 5th, at least Andra Chansen. This was the best dance song in its genre this MF season

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but “Voda” (after the revamp) was MUCH better than this. Ana sounds incredible, but the song makes me cringe quite a bit.
Really, you have a singer with a voice like that and hundreds of songs to choose from and this is the best one?

tbh the fact they said that it’s not going to be a ballad, but it is a ballad makes me think that someone else got the song they wished they would have.

I don’t think they even considered those other songs, since this one is composed by Ana’s longtime collaborator, who made Voda as well. I have no idea why those other composers were even invited to send their songs in the first place, if they never stood a real chance?!

Yes I think we are the country with the longest tradition (I think we only withdrew 2 times as an independent country – 1994 and 2000 and that was because the poor results did not allow us to compete and not because we didn’t want to) 🙂
