They performed the track for the first time during the opening night of Italy’s Sanremo 2021. And, for many, Francesca Michielin & Fedez have delivered on the pre-festival buzz with “Chiamami per nome”. But what do the lyrics mean and what is the song about?

Sanremo 2021: Francesca Michielin & Fedez “Chiamami per nome”
In the months and weeks leading up to Sanremo 2021, much of the focus has been on Francesca & Fedez. They were the early bookies’ favourites and at one point faced a disqualification scare when a short snippet of their song was shared online. But their reputation isn’t all built on hype — they have the pedigree to go with it.
Francesca, of course, represented Italy at Eurovision 2016 with “No Degree Of Separation”. She got to go despite finishing second at Sanremo. That’s because winners Stadio turned down the gig. Since then she’s gone on to have plenty of hits, including “Cigno nero” and “Magnifico” with Fedez. The superstar rapper is married to the well-known influencer Chiara Ferragni and will be making his festival debut.
What do the “Chiamami per nome” lyrics mean?
Francesca Michielin and Fedez, the duo that gave us “Magnifico”, reconfirms its flair in “Chiamami per nome” (Call Me By My Name), a song full of romantic and film-like images. Here, however, Fedez doesn’t just rap against Francesca’s melody. He also accompanies her by singing himself.
“Living a dream brings good luck,” sings Francesca. “Your kisses are stones on shop windows”, he replies. One rhyme, however, will immediately remain in her memory: “There were a thousand promises, but in my heart I feel pins”. The message? When you really find each other, words (and promises) lose their meaning.

Today I’m wearing a shirt that doesn’t suit me I run in the park in my area But I would like to tell you I am not afraid Living a dream brings good luck Your anger doesn’t win Like stones against shop windows Call me by my name I know I amazed you by coming here alone Call me by my name In the lift I waste a sign of the cross, so what? I got a sadistic guardian angel The great trivial story There were a thousand promises, a thousand Call me by my name I know I amazed you by coming here alone Call me by my name I feel like I’m dying when you talk about me in a way that I hate Under this storm Call me by my name I know that after all Call me by my name Promises are a thousand, a thousand |
What do you think of “Chiamami per nome” could it win Sanremo? Would it work at Eurovision? Comment below.
what an awful song, if you can even call it that
I really like the song in general. The only problem I have with this entry is that friggin AUTOTUNED PART OF FEDEZ. Except for that bravvvoooo!!
This must win!!!!
I like it! Thanx for the lyrics in English, helps me understand the song a little bit better!
No San Remo or esc winner vibes here, bookies were wrong again I think
Indeed
This could win eurovision
I get the feeling that the English translation doesn’t quite capture the meaning and subtext of the song. Perhaps the songwriters can explain what it’s about. I love it though.
It’s great that you post so many lyric articles, including translations, for this season overall. Thank you, Wiwibloggers! It really helps. 🙂
Very disappointing song..
