With only a couple of weeks left for broadcasters to submit their entries for Eurovision 2021, there’s still no news to report from Poland‘s broadcaster TVP. But local media is full of speculation over who will fly the Polish flag in Rotterdam this year.
Polish music site All About Music makes the bold claim that Poland’s Eurovision 2020 singer Alicja Szemplińska is no longer in the running for Eurovision 2021. However, other sites including Polish Eurovision blog Eurowizja.org are still including Alicja on their list of potential artists.
Back in July, Alicja told local media that she had not heard anything about Eurovision 2021, but noted that she was “waiting patiently”. She added, “I believe that in my heart I will be there next year and I am writing lots of new songs.”
All About Music also say that The Voice of Poland winner Krystian Ochman is also not in the running for Rotterdam. Other rumours suggest he was once under consideration, but say that TVP chose not to go with him. Radio Zet, however, still lists him, but more as a side note rather than being at the top of TVP’s wishlist.
Polish media also note that much of the interest in Ochman comes from international media, rather than Poland. On Friday Krystian released his new single “Wielkie tytuły”, which inspired many fans — both in Poland and abroad — to say it should be Poland’s entry for Eurovision 2021.
Another name being mentioned is Rafał Brzozowski. The singer, TV host and former wrestler will be best known to Eurovision fans as the co-host of Junior Eurovision 2020.
Rafał had a previous attempt at Eurovision. In 2017, he competed in the Polish national final with the peace ballad “Sky Over Europe”. The song finished in second place, just three points behind eventual winner Kasia Moś.
And another familiar name said to be under consideration is the R&B diva Cleo. She previously represented Poland at Eurovision 2014 with the outrageous “My Słowianie – We Are Slavic”. Eurowizja.org names her as another artist who has mainly been suggested by foreign media.
Meanwhile, Cleo’s Eurovision 2014 collaborator Donatan is stoking rumours of his own. He made a post to his Facebook with a photo of him and Cleo. In the caption, he wrote, “Is it time for us to go to Eurovision and show them how to do it the Slavic way? Should we wait until the world becomes even stranger?”
But amid all these rumours, Polish broadcaster TVP is keeping quiet. The broadcaster has until mid-March to submit their entry for Eurovision 2021 to the EBU. Until then, the broadcaster will evidently be hard at work deciding who will get the ticket to Rotterdam.
What do you think? Who should Poland select for Eurovision 2021? Is there another artist you’d like to see in Rotterdam? Tell us your thoughts below!
I would like to see Micha? Szpak, he was great in 2016
Maybe Poland this year will surprise us positively
Unless they send Margaret with some banger, I doubt it very much.
Margaret is over. She quit showbizz.
She didn’t? She still releases songs. She quit for a bit, she took a break. But she returned
He meant that she completely changed her style. If she actually went to ESC, which she doesn’t want, she’s not singing any pop, what people here would expect.
Rafal Brzozowski would be the worst choice, very bland.
Polish gossip site throws a few other names in the hat as well. This is just a farce.
if you choose somebody but Alicja , i wish you a non qualification :)) you will rob her for nothing , swear the god karma will get her revenge
I don’t want Donatan & Cleo again (you don’t step into the same river twice unless you’re Sergey Lazarev) and Brzozowski must be a joke. I still hope for Alicja Szempli?ska, Krystian Ochman would be an acceptable choice but I’m not a fan of his voice (he said he wasn’t interested though, at least in performing solo).
I hope it’s not Brzozowski. He’s not a good singer. Live performance would be the biggest embarassment ever or at least since Gromee and Lukas.
TVP probably has a problem finding an artist that is willing to work with them after all the propaganda and hate materials about Woman’s Strike, hate on LGBTQ+ community and a lot of other things.
God please, not Brzozowski xd he’s so great singer that he had to become tv host to stay “relevant” xd literally a walking meme, but knowing TVP, it might happen though
San Marino will crush us
my slowianie is one of the most iconic esc songs of the 2010s, all the straight locals still remember the performance lmao ! i wouldn’t be mad if it was them again
It was an iconic performance, but absent of the cleavage on display was the song that memorably good? I mean, offering female fanservice when most of the acts showcase male eye candy helps you stand out visually though.
The butter churning is so cool. I am so horney, I mean hungry for the butter.
Ochman’s song is incredibly good.
Where is Roksana W?giel?
She said she wouldn’t like to participate any time soon, but that she’s someone who changes her mind quickly, so maybe within the next few years after all 😀
She might want to see how Destiny and to a lesser extant, Stefania, does at ESC
So I’ve been over two years since she won junior vision. I don’t blame her for wanting some distance before deciding if she wants to participate in your vision itself.
Alicja duo Krystian
Good luck Poland!
Rafa?’s “Sky Over Europe” was really something. He’s a great personality and he can sing. Just, maybe not that type of song for ESC, ok?
I am in a total minority here, but he was my second in KE 2017, only behind Kasia Mos. It’s a depressing song, but I really felt it. He could’ve looked a bit more gloomy himself while performing it, but I let it slide. So, I wouldn’t be against the idea of Rafal. I would still prefer if Alicja was selected, unless she declined. In that case, I see Rafal, Kristjan and Cleo all as good options. But what fascinates me is how late in the game they still have no final decision made.
That song was supposed to be uplifting so if you felt it was meant to be depressing, then they didn’t do a good job.
I want ochman and alisja to sing wielkie tutuly
Yes, Donatan and Cleo, they were great. It was the best way – choose the huge national hit and send them directly in ESC. Not call for songs written specially for ESC.
When other countries wait for so long to announce their artist, we can sometimes suspect that they have something big in store and want to make a surprise. But when Poland does that, it makes me feel that they just do not know what they are doing and that they will choose something last minute. And I say it as a Polish person. I didn’t really like “Empires” and I am not a fan of any Alicja’s songs but I think it would be fair to let her perform. You have to know that TVP is basically ruled by the… Read more »
Dobra reklama 😉
Yeah, i dont want Donatan to came to Eurovision with attidiute “they’re strange and wrong, we are normal and do it right way”. Okay, let he do his work, maybe the song would be good, we need it right now but no any other agenda, please.
I thought it was only Cleo solo rumoured for esc 2021. -nvm just read the article.
But it’s weird tvp still hasn’t made a choice. Don’t they need to send in the backup performance very early?
