Senhit has been an unstoppable force over this Eurovision season with her #FreakyTripToRotterdam series. This time the cover series has hit its ninth instalment and, for the first time since its inception, we see San Marino’s Eurovision 2021 diva performing a medley of two songs that are both seen as iconic entries from Israel: Nadav Guedj’s “Golden Boy” (2015) and Netta’s “Toy” (2018).
#FreakyTripToRotterdam: “Golden Boy Toy”
Besides being the only medley she has done to date, this latest cover from Senhit is also particular in its mixing. The Italian star explains more in the music video’s description:
“It’s the first chapter of the Freaky Trip where the arrangement was created as if I were singing live. Christian Rìgano and Luca Scarpa gave birth to a bold and rhythmic arrangement by blending the two songs perfectly. In this performance, you can see it’s just as if I were on stage and decided to make a medley during my concert to pay homage to Israel!”
The Freaky Queen showcases her trademark high-fashion, edgy outfits and ostentatious 3-D special effects – this time including a crowd of Senhits, a topless drummer, and stark makeup.
Luca Tommassini, one of the masterminds behind the #FreakyTrip series, puts the digitally-enhanced video into an interesting perspective. In a press release, he states:
“Today, widespread traveling is unfortunately only possible with imagination or technology, so we chose to shoot the video with 3D effects: the image of Senhit performing on a stage, alternates various scenarios in which she moves around the world as if it has the ability to teleport. She is a live Senhit, even the choreographic expression is a test of approaching the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest.”
It’s notable to point out that Senhit has predominantly not changed the gender of the lyrics in both songs. This means she sings that she will “forget her” but also that she is “not your toy, you stupid boy”, which makes the cover a big anthem about bisexuality.
The only lyric that did get changed up? “I’m the queen of fun”. Evidently!
Senhit – “Golden Boy / Toy”
The next major step for Senhit on her #FreakyTripToRotterdam is to release her Eurovision 2021 entry for San Marino.
Following a postponement in the reveal, Senhit and San Marino RTV will finally release the song on 8 March.
What do you think? Does this “Golden Boy / Toy” cover offer an insight into how Senhit’s live performance in May will look or sound like? Let us know in the comments below!
Creepy, creepy, creepy…
I asked myself questions too. An answer appeared in my mind …and it’s not so goooood (it has nothing to do with mental health, to say).
She is trying way too hard. Just release your song and promote it pls.
I will be straight-up: I haven’t watched any of these covers. I don’t really care if she does a mean “Amar pelos dois” or “Everyway That I Can.” All I care about is how this crazy aesthetic is going to play into HER act. High-concept batsh*t insanity is Eurovision’s bread and butter, and I will gladly see her turn it up to 11 if it means her act is memorable and stands a decent chance of earning San Marino two consecutive qualifications(!!!!). Until then, she can do her thing, but I don’t need to see that aesthetic applied to covers.
I have been watching all Senhit’s string of ESC tribute music videos, but instead of getting a “freaky” sensation, I always get a “scary” feeling…
Yeah, it’s a borderline bad trip. These editing and designs would be more suitable for some glitch/idm/breakcore/noise style music.
Exactly!!!
Andriamad just called…they want their eyes back! :-/
A genuine question: is her team buying views for her? The amount of likes, dislikes and comments are extemely low for the views she is getting. For example: her Waterloo cover got more than 600K views but only around 250 likes and 22 comments. This is not meant as shade or whatever, I’m just wondering.
Her cover of Golden Boy and Toy has now reached over 200,000 views in just two days as well 😮 I agree, it feels a bit weird
Her latest music video has 4.8M views, but only 70 comments. This could do more harm than good for her career. I hope her team know the consequences of buying fake views and followers.
She’s releasing every Eurovison song except hers
agreed can’t she just RELEASE her song?
Totally agree! What is she doing? It’s March 3rd.
why no other comments yet? no bodies interested on San Marino entrant?
The article has just been published
It’s been 35 minutes. If people were actually interested, they would’ve already posted a comment by now. I myself am definitely looking forward for Senhit’s entry.
Maybe because the picture es ‘creepy creepy creepy’ 😀
Lol. Everyone interprets thing differently, which is fine, but your creepy standard is extremely low if you think that is creepy.
