The race to Rotterdam wraps up in Estonia. On Saturday, the 12 Eesti Laul finalists took to the stage in Tallinn’s Saku Suurhall arena. And in the end, Uku Suviste triumphed once again. He’ll sing “The Lucky One” at Eurovision this May after winning the Estonian selection show for a second consecutive year.

The Eesti Laul final saw 12 superstar acts compete for the Estonian ticket to Rotterdam. Two rounds of voting determined the winner.
Firstly, a 50/50 combination of jury votes and public votes chose the top three songs. This stage saw the jury and public points announced in the typical Eurovision fashion. Initially, Sissi, Andrei Zevakin & Pluuto and Karl Killing took an early lead after picking up top marks with multiple jurors. But with the additional public votes, Jüri Pootsmann, Uku Suviste and Sissi came out on top overall. These three acts progressed to the superfinal.
Then, public votes alone decided the winner. Ultimately, the Estonian public loved Uku Suviste the most.
Also, “The Lucky One” singer made history as the first ever Eesti Laul contestant to win the competition twice since the format was introduced in 2009. Moreover, he’s done it twice in a row. In 2020, Uku won the Estonian selection show with his song “What Love Is”.

At Eurovision, Uku Suviste will perform “The Lucky One” in the first half of the second semi-final.

I don’t think he’ll qualify for the final but I’m happy for him he at least gets the chance to really compete. I’m disappointed in the song though. I wouldn’t put ‘unimpressive love songs’ next to his name (twice) when I see him. I thought he would try something else after next year. I would have already forgotten about Uku if it wasn’t for my colleague at work who drives a car that starts with license plate 1-UKU… 🙂

This song is like.. he did everything right, it’s radio friendly, he can sing, he is good looking.. but still not something special. But it will be enough for him to qualify. 13th-19th in the final
Not bad, given how tragic some of the entries this year.
His song was not my favorite, but I believe it was only fair that he won. All the competitors from last year deserve to be selected this year.
I am happy for Uku. He was my favorite.
It’s a better song than “What Love Is” and even though I liked other songs more, there wasn’t anything on a “La Forza” level that made me feel strongly that Uku didn’t deserve to return to Eurovision.
Other songs would probably give Estonia a better chance of a qualification but nothing was really going to be an ESC top ten song for me so I’m not too upset about it. Good luck to Uku. I think qualification is going to be a challenge but not one that this song has no chance at.

lol is anyone surprised? This entry was supported by Kirkorov so you knew he wouldn’t lose, just like he didn\’t lose in Moldova (there were allegations for fixed results in 2020 and let’s not forget about Kirkorov’s meeting with the president there).
Uku’s song is bland and not memorable, it sounds dated but he is cute for sure.
I think Estonia will be borderline this year, just like Azerbaijan 2018.

Haven’t read through the comments but I felt very uneasy watching the final. Don’t get me wrong I was really rooting for Uku to win EL last year, but something felt a bit off this year. Usually when I read a comment saying it was a fix I roll my eyes at it. But, Uku was very weak vocally, and to come from a jury vote of 3, to the winner and his televote score was hidden in the broadcast. I don’t think he should have won, and I don’t think he did legitimately.
You definitely don’t want to watch Victor Crone’s year. His jury vote was even worse.

This song isn’t as painfully bad as last year’s, however it’s still very meh and I fear Estonia has picked a sure NQ.

I appreciate the vocal abilities of Uku. But lyrically the song is trying to be way more complex than it needed to be. The dark and moody staging is good though and the performance is on point, which could carry this into the final.
I think it will qualify, after that I’m not sure. But I think lyrically it’s trying too hard. Best of luck Estonia.

I had a hard time bringing myself to care about Estonia’s choice. I didn’t particularly care for any of the songs in their final if I am being truthful. Not that they’re all bad, it’s just that nothing really does it for me. I have doubts this will qualify but if I had one nice thing to say, he’s at least improved from last year.
I’m not even mad because Estonians were aiming so low this year that this could be the only choice possible. Hope they enjoy their stay in the SFs. Estonia isn’t going any further. Only a very cool and surprising staging could save it.

This was the right choice. Uku’s song is much better than last year’s and his performance is excellent. It won’t win Eurovision but it should qualify for the final.

Regardless of who you wanted to win, Uku deserves to go, he won last year, so really it’s only fair. Either way, I like the song, and good luck Estonia!

As expected and predicted. I just think Estonia should have just given him the ticket after the whole thing being cancelled last year. Seems only fair for Uku. And fair for all the other participants who knew this would be the ultimate result. Good though Estonia has given him a second chance.

Lyrically, it’s stronger than What Love Is. He’s an okay singer, a confident performer. I haven’t listened to the other songs so can’t say whether he deserved to win or not, but I can’t see this making the final.
