Fire Saga fans rejoice! Netflix’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is in the running for award show gold. And it’s up for one of the biggest prizes in the film industry. The movie’s 11 o’clock number “Husavik” has picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
“Husavik” nominated for Best Original Song Oscar
Full list of nominees:
- “Husavik” from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga
- “Fight For You” from Judas and the Black Messiah
- “Hear My Voice” from The Trial of The Chicago 7
- “Io Si (Seen)” from The Life Ahead (La Vita Davanti A Se)
- “Speak Now” from One Night In Miami…
Earlier this year, the Academy named “Husavik” as one of the shortlisted songs up for the nomination. Of the 15 songs on the shortlist, only five made it through. And now, Fire Saga are one step closer to their Oscar.
“Husavik” is written by Fat Max Gsus, Rickard Göransson, Savan Kotecha and Atli Örvarsson. The song is a touching piano ballad about the Icelandic hometown of Rachel McAdams’ character. It features lead vocals from My Marrianne — also known as Melodifestivalen star Molly Sandén — as McAdams repeats her lyrics on stage (she actually sang them, rather than just miming, to make the scene look more realistic on tape). Also, “Husavik” proved extremely popular with fans, reaching the top ten of the worldwide iTunes song chart.
This Oscar nomination adds to the list of many major award nominations for the Eurovision movie. In early February, “Husavik” also picked up a Critics Choice Award nomination. And in November, the film picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. However, the film sadly lost out to JoJo Rabbit.

The 93rd Academy Awards
Normally, Oscar nominees must come from a film that has had a theatrical release in Los Angeles for at least one week. However, due to the pandemic, films that had a release on a subscription streaming serving are also eligible for nomination if it had been originally intended that they would also have a cinema release. This means that the Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is eligible.
The awards had originally been scheduled for Monday 28 February, but due to pandemic concerns, the Oscars have been postponed until Sunday 25 April.
